Friday Catch Up - 5th March 21

Doodlewash Challenge- Watercolours

Lamb

Nest

Monarch - I thought I would do a queen as monarch as well as monarch butterflies

Baby Mobile

I made the animals out of felt and hand stitched them. I got ideas from Pinterest but made my own patterns apart from the turtle which I just made up. The hanger was from Amazon, it's got music too.

It was difficult trying to take a photo of the whole thing while I was holding it.

Eyes open one side and shut on the other

Pink on one side and peach on the other

The other sides of the lion and dog were pretty much the same

Two different ways of showing the turtles markings

And don't forget to check out Paint Party Friday

Fabric Patchwork Coasters

I've been making a lot of patchwork coasters or mug rugs of late. I have used Christmas type fabrics for most of them for gifts. However I have been asked what they are. The sizes are a bit random and shapes are a bit odd on some of them. All the patchwork was done by hand but they were made up on the machine with wadding and backing. I do find a fabric coaster excellent for gin and tonic when condensation appears on the glass, it stops drops falling on you.

And some fabrics that are not Christmas related

English Paper Piecing Cushion

As you can see I have finished the paper pieced cushion. It was made up of three shapes - decagons [10 sides], polygons [5 sides] and elongated hexagons [6 sides]. My intention was to be very neat and not show any of the stitches [the shapes were all hand stitched together], but I'm afraid I didn't succeed. I tried a few different ways of stitching them together [tutorials can be found on Pinterest] .I'm not sure if I have a favourite technique, I think it all depended on the access to a particular bit, for instance it is much easier to sew two small shapes together than when there are large pieces to join.

It was made from a pack of 5" charming squares which determined the size of the cushion.
The fabric is called "Enchanted Forest" by Lewis and Irene. I bought a fat quarter the same as some of the squares and made an envelope type cushion [hate putting zips in]. There were a few blue scraps left so I edged the overlap, which made it slightly bigger which was better.

WIP - English Paper Piecing

A few weeks ago I started a new project, English paper piecing. I'm using pentagons [5 sided shape], decagons [10 sided shape] and elongated hexagons[6 sided shape]. I was doing really well to start with but I seem to be in a slump at the moment probably because we've had some good weather and  I was doing other things.

Blackbird Applique [2]

I didn't realize it was so long since I posted the last bird applique [Jan]
Layered fabrics, hand stitching

Another Rabbit Applique

I used another one of my stamps for the rabbit, stamped on fabric then over painted. The fabric below the rabbit is striped but it doesn't show up on my screen. Bits of fabric doilies are used for flowers. All hand stitched.

Felt Animal Mobile

I made these animals in felt for a mobile for my grandson.
I looked on the internet, in particular Pinterest for ideas.
