Smashbook day 17: Tim Holtz

Hi bloggies,

My theme today is the grunge king himself Tim Holtz! Hihihi. Because of Lein I knew of distress inkpads and decided to buy them when I started making cards and after I'd seen video's with all different techniques. I also ordered stains with it and I started working. I like the grunge and vintage look very much, and find his products are also very cool. In the past few months I have purchased quite some products of Tim (also ranger, stampers anonymous, etc.) such as 22 distress inkpads (eventually I would like them all, including the limited ones), 7 distress stains, mini mister, mister bottle, grunge board, crackle paint, Stickles, perfect pearls, archival ink blending tool, paper distresser, paint dabbers, embossing powder, non stick craft sheet, and lots of stamps. Only the embellishments are missing in my collection. Here are  the first tags and first cards that I made with distress:

I love the style and the techniques where Tim stands for and I have applied some of it for this smashbook. Love it,love it, love it!!

On the left page I used distress ink for the background, and for the tags stains and distress. The right ticket I just got yesterday. And of course I had to use it for this book immediately.

On the right page of course a picture of Tim, with his crown above his head that I've embossed. And over the photo, I did his logo of vinyl and gone over it with gun metal stickles.

Tomorrow is the last theme of my smashbook. But my smashbook isn't full yet, so when I discover something new and fun to smash, I will post a message about it.

See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 16: card making

Hi bloggies,

The theme of today is making cards. I honestly didn't like card making, even when I bought my Cricut. I thought it was a little corney. Sorry folks! Despite I often recieved  beautiful handmade cards  form Lein , she couldn't change my mind about it. But with the arrival of my eCraft and in combination with MTC, I changed my mind and I immediately started to make cards. These are my first cards that I made.

On the left page, I glued four pictures of cards that I made with the eCraft.

On the right page I stamped with paint dabber! Very fun to do! A few of my paint dabbers are slightly dehydrated. Too bad. The letters I distressed with ink and the tags too.

The theme for tomorrow is the king of grunge! No, I don't mean Kurt Cobain;).

See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 15: eCraft

Hi bloggies,

Today's theme is the eCraft! Since I know of the existence of the eCraft, I wanted to have it immediately. Luckily I waited to buy one, because there were some problems with the first batch. By my knowledge  the eCraft is still the only cutter that does not need cutting mat and because the Cricut is not working on MTC I had decided after a long time to buy the eCraft. I give it myself as a present because I had a new job! Haha.

There's always a reason to treat yourself something nice.
I am so happy with my eCraft! It's in my opinion better than the Cricut, especially small circles (for rhinestones) where not really circles when I cutted them with my cricut, which my eCraft cuts them perfectly. Perhaps my Cricut didn't work as well as it should have. I don't mean to offend any Cricut owners!

On the left page the edges are done with walnut stain and modified vintage photo, the flowers in the middle are cut out with eCraft and were some of the first things I cut out with my eCraft. The brown flower is finished with walnut stain stains several times and the lighter floral with vintage photo. The letters eCraft are also done with walnut stain stains . I did Golden Rod Stickles around the edges of the photograph.

On the right page the tag is done with tea dye, walnut stain and vintage photo.

The theme of tomorrow is making cards.

See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 14: Biaisband maker and serger

Hi bloggies,

Today I have two themes for you, once again! The bias tape maker and my serger. For those who do not know what a bias tape maker is, it is a device that makes bias tape. Duhh ;). Sorry! Bias  tape is what can you use for finishing garments, bags or other products of textile/fabric. What the device does is fold the outer edges inward. The pictures will give you probably a better idea of what I'm trying to say;):
Manual bias tape maker with iron:

Biastape maker machine from Simplicity:

The other theme of today is the serger. You use it to finish the edges of clothing / fabric so it will not fray.
When I started sewing, I wanted above all to make the clothes and I put no time or effort into the neat of finishing the garments, which resulted that the clothes when they came out of the washing machine they started to fray. That's when I decided to had to have a serger. I chosen for the Lewenstein 700DE. Yippy!

On the left page, the bias tape maker page, I've done the edges with broken china and glass tumbled distress ink. To show the bias tape, I put some of it in the upper left corner. The tag is decorated with faded jeans and picket fence stains

The right page, the egdes of the tag are done with lipstick worn, broken china and glass tumbled distress ink and done the edges with the paper distresser.

Tomorrow's theme is the eCraft!
See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 13: Yudu

Today's theme is Yudu.
What is Yudu, you maybe thinking. Yudu is a screen printing machine, which you can make screenprints with. Only the sheet that you use for exposure you don't make with the machine or with a part of the machine, but otherwise, everything else you do with Yudu. After screenprinting in the graphic workshop, I went looking for my own screen printing machine. Accidentally I stumbled upon the Yudu. Unfortunately this machine only was available in America. Still, I'd gathered as much information about it as I could. The Yudu is from ProvoCraft and I found a great American website where you can get cheap Provocraft stuff. I didn't know if I should do it, but finally I did it anyway. It took an eternity before it arrived in the Netherlands, but when it arrived I didn't even bother to take off my coat, I had to get to work. haha. Unfortunately I found out that I couldn't use it yet because I had to get a converter so I wouldn't blow up the machine! After a search all around the city I found the converter, so that same night I started screenprinting. It is a very precise process with a lot of steps. It is difficult to do the emulsion and get the exposure time right. But the first time was not a bad start!

On the left page, I've decorated the background with three colors Distress Ink (spun sugar, tumbled glass and broken china), for the tag I've used 5 different colors distress ink (spun sugar, tumbled glass, broken china, Victorian velvet and vintage photo). The tag I cut out of black cardstock and did a print 'n cut (my print' n cut method ...) and I used crackle paint rock candy on it  for that nice crackled effect. The buttons I glued on with glossy accents.

On the right page I did a print 'n cut of the Yudu logo and decorated it with baby blue and turquoise Stickles. The flowers are from e-line and I fastened them with a brad.

Tomorrow I've got two themes yet again!
See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 12: Knipmode & sewing lessons

Hi bloggies!

Today I have two themes, Knipmode (magazine for making clothes) and sewing lessons.
For my birthday I got a Magazine Coupon from my job and I used it for a subscription to Knipmode and around the same time I also started sewing lessons with Lein. I had to get use to the sewing lessons, it was not like we both expected. It was more a gathering and not lessons at all. I wanted to make a new winter coat, so I had a lot of supplies with me, but it soon became clear that I had to learn other things first before I could even attempt the winter coat again.
During that time I got the Knipmode and noticed that there were very nice patterns in it. Unfortunately I do not always understood the explanation, but if I had the chance I asked the questions during the sewing lessons. At home I drew and cut out the patterns and during sewing lessons, I put them together. My fabric stock soon became very big.

On the left page, I cut the letters out of vinyl. I left the page very basic.

On the right page, I cut the letters and tags out with the eCraft. And the upper tag I decorated with distress ink.

Day after tomorrow I'm back again with a new theme, namely Yudu!

See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 11: Made by Sannie

Made by Sannie is the name I came up with for my logo. I've now made quite a bit with the logo, namely screen prints, textile labels, jewelry tags, labels and a stamp (got that from a friend for my birthday). I have screen prints used for mybags, applications and other ornaments. I have a little website/webdevelopment company and I've made myself a personal blog for all my creative things. I have also taken options to show what I bought (where and for how much), a wish list, and a few other features. The reason I joined blogspot is that it's better accessable and more known. I'll keep my other blog, that's in Dutch (which is my language) and it has the feature to create a book from al my messages and projects and stuff. I plan to make a book of my blog every year. I love that idea :).

Okay, back to business. On the left of the page, I have disstressed the edges once again. I think it gives such a nice effect that I can't resist not to distress it. Last week I bought those cute pink flowers so I used them immediately. I have an example of my logo screen printed on fabric that I've done the graphics workplace. I put a chain to the binding and  I've attached jewelry labels to it. These labels where engraved in Hong Kong at my request. How cool! Took a while because of the mail, but they're just so cool! Custom made for me! Yippee.

On the right page I have cut out  the shadow layer with the eCraft and distressed it and then printed the letters. I have some screenshots of my homemade blog in the middle. And on the right a textile label underneath a picture with a little bow in the middle!

Tomorrow I have two themes once again!

See you tomorrow!

Smashbook day 10: Screen printing

I had found a very nice logo for my creative endeavors and I tried to cut out the logo with the Cricut. But the logo has too many details for that. So I had to figure out a way to get my logo on fabric. I heard about screen printing, but I had no idea what it all implied. So I went on a search to figure it all out. After lots of searching on internet I had gathered much information about it. I went to DEVA (an local art material store) and found out there's a graphic workshop in my town where you can screen print. Great! I immediately made an appointment and after some instructions I was on my way. After a whole day I had a good idea how to go about it the next time. After a lot of preparation I went fully prepared to work. I went like a rocket, haha, and I made about 100 screen prints made from 11 different colors and each color two different types of prints.

On the leftpage I distressed the edges and the edges of the pictures too.

On the rightpage I cut out the frame and distressed it. Same as the letters, but there I also used stickles on them. On the frame I used a paillette, the same one as in the left corner of the left page, as a mask.

Tomorrows theme is Made by Sannie.

Smashbook day 9: Cupcakes & Clothing

Hi bloggies (I love to call you that, hihi),

Todays theme is clothing and cupcakes.

I'm not a kitchen pricess, but I love to make cupcakes and especially to decorate them. There are so many supplies to decorate them with and I want to have them all, haha. Everytime I make a batch they look better then the previous ones. It's easy to do and it looks like you're a pro with not much effort at all. The picture is taken from the last time I made cupcakes, and I think they look very cute and delicious :D.

The left page I distressed the background with distress ink (as usual ;)) and stamped with cupcake stamps.
The letters I cut out with my eCraft and on the edges I used distress ink.

I never thought I would make my own clothes. I was afraid it would not be nice and not symmetrical, and look very home made. I started with a Burda pattern of a skirt. A very simple skirt ofcourse. It was quite a challenge. The first time making clothes is not easy and definitely putting a zipper in was a challenge. After a few skirts, I thought I could do a wintercoat with difficulty of 3 dots. The goal I set for myself was a bit too high. I still finished the coat, but I've recently given it away to charity. Hopefully I have made someone happy with that coat. Maybe not such a bad idea to take sewing lessons! hahaha.

The picture  is of the second skirt (without the letters CLOTHS on it) I made. I think it's a beautiful skirt, but unfortunately I chose the wrong fabric for it. The fabric is too thick and too stiff, and is more for drapes or furniture.

Tomorrows theme is screenprinting!

See you tomorrow, right?

Smashbook day 8: My Craftroom

Hi bloggies,

Sorry I was a bit too busy yesterday, so that's why skipped a day. But today's theme is my craftroom. At first I had my craftroom / office in what's basically a storage room. My apartment has a "vide" (what literaly means empty space, and don't know the english word for it) and I have built an extra room in it, and now it's less empty space, lol:). The extra room is now my new craftroom. With the renovation I've created a room that's about 13 m2. It's like a paradise for me, and so very happy with it! My craftroom is well equipped, well I think it is :). It has a large desk where I can put lots of stuff on and cut fabrics and stamp and so on, a TV with DVD for when I don't want to miss anything, lots of storage space and a slatwall where I can store more stuff.
The left page I used distress ink for the background and  put a loverly stamp from Tim on it.
Between the left and right page I added a page of a dictionary. Stamped the letters on it and distressed the edges after I torn them. In the bottom corner I stuck to paperflower on top of eacher and in the center I did with stickles.

On the right page, I've used a really nice font "Cheri Liney" that has a shadow of itself. But I decided to break apart and cut it in two seperate colors. In the lower right corner I've made a bow of lace that I had left over from the cover.

Tomorrows I've got two theme's for you!

Till tomorrow,
Sandra

Smashbook day 7: SannieLein

Hi bloggies!

Todays theme is SannieLein. I'll explain what that is. SannieLein is a project I started with a friend (I'm Sannie and Marjolein is Lein, that makes SannieLein). When I got my Cricut, I searched what it can do and I where I could use it for, and I discovered vinyl. I found it very expensive and you get two larges pieces of only one color. So I searched online and discovered that if you buy large quantities it isn't so expensive. We both saw business in it, and we bought it and sold it in smaller pieces. We offered it via Marktplaats (Dutch version of ebay) and we did alright, but not as good as we'd hoped. It was fun while it lasted. We handled itvery professionally, we even had color cards with pieces of vinyl on it, instructions and even business cards. We also created a website.

Okay about the layout, the background of the left page I distressed it with distress ink. I think I used 5 or 6 color on it. The stamp is from Tim and in the corner a fleur de lis. The color charts and instructions I attached to the page with a paper clip. I'm not sure if I'll leave it like that.

On the right page I've put a nice flower in the upper left corner next to our business card. In the lower right corner I stamped the Eiffel Tower of Tim Holtz with StazOn.
Beneath a photograph of the custom box I made for the vinyl. We had 10 colors.

Tomorrow you get a look of my craftroom!
See you tomorrow!

Sandra
