Growing in Unity Blog Hop

Hi!  Welcome to the Growing in Unity Blog Hop, featuring the December Growing in Unity Girls! You should have hopped here from Beth Fiscus.  Make sure you visit all the designers, as well as the Unity blog, for a chance to win a Unity Prize package.  A complete list of blogs can be found at the bottom of this post.

When I was working on my cards for my Growing in Unity week, I really wanted to use Sloth Endearments.  Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be then, so I am SOOO excited to be able to use it today.  After seeing the movie, Zootopia, I became obsessed with sloths.  There is just something about them...I can't explain it.  For this guy, I used watercolor pencils and a water brush to color the sloth, just hanging around.  The background was done with a shimmer watercolor (scroll down for a better look at this).

Meet Slothie, the inspiration for my card.  😁  This little guy was a Christmas present from my husband.  This card is going to be a Valentine's Day card for him!  I hope Slothie approves of how I colored the sloth.

This is one of my "in process" stages.  I love it because you can see the shimmer in the watercolored background.

Again, thank you for visiting and commenting on my post.  Good luck to everyone!  Be sure to visit everyone to see their amazing work.

Growing in Unity Blog Hop

Hi!

Welcome to the Growing in Unity Blog Hop!  I was so excited when Unity Stamps asked me to join in the fun.  And I'm so glad to have you here.  Hopefully you came here from Tracy's blog.  If you didn't, you can find the complete list of participants at the bottom of this post.  You don't want to miss a stop.  One lucky commenter will be selected to win a month of Stamp of the Week (SOTW) stamps!

We were given this week's SOTW stamp to work with: Winter Forest.  I fell in love with the trees when I took the stamps out of the package.  My first thought was to make a window card (and I still may!)...then I went a completely other direction.  Check it out!

Aren't these little canvases cute?  When I found them at a local discount store, I didn't know what I was going to do with them.  Originally, I thought they would be fun for my kids to draw on.  But when I saw the stamps, I knew they would be a perfect fit.  So I grabbed some watercolors to create a chilly background.

I used some Momento ink and the same watercolors to color in the the trees.

Last bit was to add a little sparkle with some stars and a silver pen.  And there you go!  My first Holiday decoration of the season.

Thank you for visiting.  If you aren't a follower, I would love it if you would be.  Don't forget to comment along the hop for a chance to win a month of SOTW stamps!  As promised, here are all the stops:

PGCB: Let's Celebrate Blog Hop

Welcome to the Paper Girls' Blog Hop to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary.  It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years since 9 friends started a little challenge blog.  Happy blogiversary to us!

We have had a fun two years getting to know you and seeing your projects.  IWe've said goodbye to a few of the original Paper Girls (Judy, Sheryl, and Kyla) and now today we are saying bye to Heather. We appreciate all the work these girls did and wish them all well.  Life gets busy.  And crazy.  And  we know all too well that sometimes crafting and blogs have to be pushed aside for awhile.  We will miss you girls, but you will always be Paper Girls!!!

Okay, now back to the hop!  The fabulous store Creative Embellishments is offering a $25 gift certificate to our random winner!  Creative Embellishments carries wood veneer shapes, chipboard, and stamps.  They have so many wonderful designs to choose from.  Please give them a big thanks from The Paper Girls over at their blog or facebook page.

For our hop today we have created projects that have a Celebration theme and that use either wood veneer or chipboard shapes.  For my project, I created a fun little card using the Foxy stamp set from Sweet Stamp Shop, and a wooden speech bubble and wooden dots.  My kids are obsessed with the song, "What does the Fox Say?"  So when I saw this set, I knew it would be perfect for celebrating my son's 7th birthday.

I love adding wooden elements to projects.  You can color them (like I did on this card), you can stamp on them (like on this scrapbook page), or like I did here, add a Thicker to it (I also added a little ink around the edge of the speech bubble).  If you haven't used wooden or chipboard elements, I encourage you to try them.  If you don't have any in your stash, Creative Embellishments is a great place to start.  ;-)  Don't forget, you have a chance to win a $25 gift certificate for Creative Embellishments by hopping and commenting on all our blogs.

And here's the hopping order:
Paper Girls Challenge Blog  <<< Hop back here to enter the Rafflecopter drawing

You have through Friday, April 4th to enter to win the gift certificate.

Good luck!

Using these items, I created 3 fun (and quick) cards for you:

This card was created with one of the Retro Fresh Designer Journaling Cards.  I'm not sure why the term "Huzzah!" hits home with me (maybe it is because I still remember it as one of my spelling words as a kid), but I just love it!  I wanted you to see that the journaling cards don't have to just be for scrapbook pages or pocket style scrapping.

For this card, I used two of the stamps from the Peachy Keen set.  The "frame" is from the On Film Framelits Dies.  If you look carefully, you can see the texture the die left on the frame.  Just one more little element of texture.  :-D

My last card features the washi...all of them in the Retro Fresh This and That Designer Washi collection.  I also used the dies from On Film in this card (including popping one of the set of arrows up a little).

I hope you have enjoyed a few different ways to use some of the Retro Fresh collection.  Don't forget that with every $50 spent - the approximate price of my bundle - you can choose 1 free Sale-A-Bration item.  Can you tell what is my favorite item?  The Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack.  It even made an appearance on a couple of my cards here!

Now it is time to hop on to Bree's blog and see her wonderful creations!  Thank you for visiting!!!

Practical Scrappers: Scrap Your Stash Hop

Welcome to the first Scrap Your Stash Blog Hop by Practical Scrappers (a new monthly hop!)...

You should have come here from Christine Meyer's blog.  If you've lost your way, a complete list of blogs will be at the bottom of this post.  I hope you enjoy seeing how we used our stashes to create some fun stuff!  Make sure you hop all the way through.  Many of the girls are doing giveaways on their blogs, including the Practical Scrapper's home site (Kiwi Lane anyone?)!

I had fun raiding my stash of Project Life cards, little letters, and wooden elements to create the cover page for my 2014 Project Life book.  I vow I WILL keep up with my PL this year!!! I already have a layout in mind for Week 1!  ;-)

I used cards and elements from Studio Calico's Project Life kit, Becky Higgin's Midnight core kit, and Gossamer Blue's Life Pages kit, as well as some cards I had in my stash already.  The letters I used were from some Lily Bee and Webster Pages mystery boxes I ordered this year.  I used Gelatos to color the hearts on my "Our Life" card.

Thank you for visiting.  Hop on over to Erin Morehouse for your next stop.

Cheers!
Kristy

I decided to do a scrapbook layout using items from the new Occasions Catalog.  I have to say, I LOVE the new catalog.  LOTS of new fun stuff to play with.  Without further ado, here is my layout:

Recipe:

  • Paper: Watercolor Wonder DSP (#132994), 2013-2015 In Color Core'Dinations (#129958), Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum (#133363)
  • Stamps: Make Note This & That Rotary Stamp (#133370), Love You To The Moon (#133143)
  • Ink: Jet Black Stazon Pad (#101406)
  • Punch: Punch Pack (#118309)
  • Embellishments: Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape (#133000), Basic Rhinestones Jewel Accents (#119246), Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details (#127845), Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430), Occasions Paper-Piercing Pack (#129387), Essentials Wooden Elements (#132258)

And here are a few close-up pictures of my layout:

I used the Occasions Paper-Piercing Pack to highlight the Essentials Wooden Elements, which I colored with my markers.

I also stamped on one of my Essentials Wooden Elements, using Staz-on, then added some color with my markers.  I also used the Staz-on ink to stamp on the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum.

I hope I've given you some new ideas for ways to use the items from the Occasions catalog.  Now, hop on over to Annie L. of  Love Me Cards.

Cheers!

Scrapbook Steals October Blog Hop

If you are looking for the PGCB Hop, click here.

Welcome to the October Blog Hop for Scrapbook Steals.  I was so happy when Melodee asked me to be a part of the hop.  I was even more excited when I was at their Retreat last weekend, and she handed me the steal to work with...My Mind's Eye Titles, Quotes & Die Cuts Mega Pack.  Let me tell you, when they say mega, they mean MEGA.  There was probably a stack more than 1" thick of tags, quotes and die cuts from some of my favorite My Mind's Eye collections, including The Sweetest Thing, Collectable, and Indie Chic.

I can't wait for you to hop along with some insanely creative designers.  Make sure you leave a comment on all the blogs for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to the Scrapbook Steals store.  Comments must be left by October 6th at 11:59 pm MDT.  Here is the order of the hop:

ScrapbookSteals.com - http://scrapbook.steals.com/ <- Did you start here?  If not, hop back!
Kristina MacKeen- http://mamasanity.blogspot.com/ <- You are here!
Charissa Miller
http://www.akihasmommascraps.com <- Hop here next.
Staci Jones
http://scrapbookingischeaperthantherapy.blogspot.com/
Heather Conklin http://goldiecar.blogspot.com/
Erin Shultz http://trailofscraps.blogspot.com

And now, here is my project:

As I was looking through the all the tags, I thought it would be fun to make kind of a banner style hanging of all the titles.  After I laid out the ones I liked and thought would be good together, I glued them down and gave them a light whitewashing of gesso.  These tags are actually from all 3 of the collections.  Adding the gesso toned down the colors, and made them flow together nicely.  I added a light coat of Frost White Shimmer Paint from Stampin' Up over the gesso.  It is hard to see in the picture, but it added just a touch of shine to the background and tags.  I loved how you can still see the colors, yet they flow together nicely.  Instead of using the frame (also part of the Mega Pack!) in front of my photo, I added it behind.  This way you are able to see all my daughter's (and son's) animals, yet the pop of color is still there.  A quick trip to the sewing machine and some journaling around the edge, and I was done.

I hope you enjoyed my layout!  Don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win the gift certificate to the Scrapbook Steals store.

And since it is almost my birthday, I feel like sharing a few presents with you!  I will choose one comment to win some of these fun My Mind's Eye titles, quotes, and die cuts.  Make sure you are a follower to win!  I will announce the winner on Oct 10th.

Cheers!
Kristy

PGCB Blog Hop: Fall Decor

Blog hop badge with leaves

The Paper Girls have put together an amazing blog hop with lots of inspiration.  Take a few minutes for yourself and hop along our blog hop for a little extra help with that “Fall Decor”?

A hop wouldn't be a hop without prizes.  The Paper Girls Challenge Blog has a Scrapbook Pal gift card up for grabs...See details below on how to win!

Here is the line up:

The Paper Girls Challenge Blog: www.thepapergirlschallenge.blogspot.com <- Did you start here?
Kristy: www.mamasanity.blogspot.com  <- You are here!
Amber: www.allamberallthetime.blogspot.com <- Visit here next!
Erica: http://stampingstarlette.blogspot.com/
Charity: http://menemenetekeluniversity.blogspot.com/
Heather: http://heatherskraftykorner.blogspot.com/
Charissa: http://akihasmommascraps.com/
Jessica: http://errantscraps.blogspot.com/
Michele: http://about-the-paper.blogspot.com/
Cathryn : http://www.catscrapcreations.blogspot.ca/
Becci: http://b-handmade.blogspot.com/
Misty: http://mistylynnwhat.blogspot.com/
Deborah: http://scrappinthelittlethings.blogspot.com/

And here is a fun project to hopefully inspire your thoughts on fall décor:

I used my Cricut to cut a BUNCH of leaves (honestly, I don't remember how many, but it is was a lot).  I used Fabrications paper by Teresa Collins, which matches the wreath I made at the beginning of the month.  After inking the leaves - and my hands - I started gluing the leaves down to the paper.  To make sure I had the right sized paper, I simply used the paper that came with the frame, flipped over, of course!

The words are from Stampin' Up.  I got them through Sale-a-bration last year and hadn't used them yet.  By adhering them to the glass, I can create different backgrounds to match the seasons or holidays.

On to the important part - PRIZES!!!

How do you get your hands on the gift card to Scrapbook Pal? Would you like a chance to win?

Get an entry for commenting on each of the blog posts, "Like" the Paper Girls Challenge on Facebook, and being a follower on our blog (all are required for an entry). You will see some fabulous projects and find some inspiration.

You have until Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 11:59pm MST to comment. We will announce the winner on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 9:00 am MST. International readers are welcome to play along but currently we are only shipping prize packs to the US and Canada due to shipping costs.

Now hop on over to Amber's blog!!!

Cheers!

Stylin' Stampin' Squad: September Blog Hop

Thank you so much for joining us for the September Stylin’  Stampin’ Squad Blog Hop! This month we are focusing on the tools of the stampin’ trade. Specifically, each of our favorite stamping tools. It’s amazing the kinds of tools that have been created to help us along in our paper-crafting addictions.  This month’s blog hop will showcase many of the Stampin’ Up! tools that are now available to us in the 2013-2014 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Holiday Catalog and even a couple of products that are so new they aren’t in either catalog. We hope you enjoy seeing how we use the old and new tools and are inspired to come up with some great projects of your own.

You should have just left stop number 14 on the Stylin’ Stampin’ Squad blog hop – Jamie H of Unique Ink. If so, you are in the right spot. If a link doesn’t work or you get off track, you will find the full blog hop lineup below.

Blog Hop Participants:
  1. Shellie G. of Craft Smashup
  2. Pam S. of Stampin' in the Sun!
  3. Tonya B. of Stampin' with Tonya
  4. Dawn S. of Dawn's Creative Chalet
  5. Darcy J. of DJ's Stampin' Place

  13. Jennifer C. of Happy 2 Scrap 4 Life
  14. Jamie H. of Unique Ink
  15. Kristina M. of Mama's Sanity
Without further ado, here is my project.  My favorite tools in my arsenal has to be my punches!  I love how fast you can make cards with punches.  I was able to make 12 copies of this card pretty quickly because all of the major elements on this cards are punches!

Recipe:
Stamps: Six-Sided Sampler (# 130956)
Paper: Venetian Romance DSP (#130144), Subtles Collection (#119704), Whisper White (#100730)
Ink: Basic Black (#126980), Smoky Slate (#131179)
Punch: Modern Label (#119849), Word Window (#119857), Blossom (#125603), Pansy (#130698)
Embossing Folder: Fancy Fan (#127751)
Etc.: Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430),  Naturals Designer Buttons (#127554), Linen Thread (#104199)

Layering punched elements gives you a lot of depth on a card.  For added depth, I used Stampin' Dimensionals under the flowers, then tucked in the "my friend" under the flower.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these supplies, click the Shop Now button here!

I hope you have enjoyed our hop.  If you missed any stops along the way, make sure you head back to the list an start from the beginning.

Cheers!
