Map of Tel Aviv

After the article about the city, you can choose a map of Tel Aviv, Israel for informational or travel purposes.

It is said that there are two Israels, and the focal point of one of those Israels is Jersualem. It is the religious and historical capital city where Orthodox Jews form a large part of the population and day-to-day life is more Jewish. Then of course there are the Arab neighbourhoods in the city, which are traditional and religious in their own way. The focal point of the other Israel is Tel Aviv, the modern, secular capital located on the Mediterranean Coast. It is a city of beaches, restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and other staples life for secular Israelis.

Tel Aviv itself is a small city of only 405,000, which is smaller than Jerusalem. But Jersualem`s metro area much smaller than Tel Aviv`s metro area of over 3.3 million. This area is called the Gush-Dan region, a sprawling cluster of modern suburbs radiating outwards from Tel Aviv. This metro area makes up nearly half of Israel`s population.

Tel Aviv is a modern city that was founded in 1909, adjacent to the town of Jaffa (Yafo in Hebrew) whose history extends back to Biblical times. Tel Aviv-Yafo is now a single municipality, uniting both ancient and modern into one city. Jaffa`s Old City, while nothing like the Old City of Jersualem, is a popular attraction and a beautiful escape from the bustle of central Tel Aviv.

Tel Aviv has a subtropical Mediterranean climate, with hot humid summers (and believe me when I say humid), and mild wet winters. Daytime highs in winter are reasonably warm, in the 15-20 degree range, but lows are typically in the 8-10 degree range, with temperatures sometimes dropping lower. Freezing temperatures are virtually unheard of and have only occurred a couple of times in recorded history. Though snow has been seen on various rare occasions in some of the inland suburbs of Tel Aviv. But those are rare occurrences, and anybody coming from a colder climate will find Tel Aviv`s winters pleasantly mild and comfortable.

I hope the above Tel Aviv map files will be useful to you in your travels to the Israeli coastal plain.

Map of Tehran, Iran

At the bottom of this page you can find a good map of Tehran and its surrounding areas, as well as a good road map of Tehran. I hope they`re what you`re looking for!

Tehran is the capital city of Iran, as well as its largest city by far. It is also one of the largest cities in both the Middle East and South Asia, with a population of 8,429,807 in the city proper.

Tehran is in the Middle East, so maybe people imagine it as being in the middle of the desert surrounded by rolling sand dunes. But the Middle East is a place of variety, and Tehran is actually not in the desert. It is indeed hot in the summer, but is definitely cold in the winter with daily highs in the range of 7-10 degrees celsius, and daily lows often falling below 0 degrees. It is a city of many hills and varying elevations, and the higher elevated areas in the north part of town can be significantly colder than the lower lying areas. Spring and winters are mild, with most of the year`s precipitation occurring in those seasons.

Tehran is served mainly by Imam Khomeini airport, which lies a good 50 km outside of the city. The old international airport is still used for domestic flights and military use.

Blank Map of Middle East

Here you can find a blank map of the Middle East for your reference and self study. In some of the maps the country borders are indicated, but the names of the countries and their cities and other features are not indicated.

Maps of the Middle East are not static, and sometimes political changes occur in the Middle East, due to wars and so on. On top of that, some countries or geographic features are referred to by different names depending on who is speaking. For example, Israel is not recognized as a country by many Arabs so Israel is often replaced with "Palestine" on maps produced in Arab countries. And the Persian Gulf, as most Westerners know it, is referred to as "The Arabian Gulf" by Arabs. Keep these kinds of things in mind when deciding how to label your blank maps.

This first map does not include country borders. Ironically, that may actually make your life simpler when it comes time to label the map!

Blank map of the Middle East

It could be said that this map is outdated, because it shows the Westbank (currently occupied by Israel and under partial Palestinian autonomy) as part of Jordan. This hasn`t been the reality since 1967. It also shows the Gaza Strip as part of Egypt.

Blank map of Middle East

The next blank map of the Middle East is not out of date, but you can say its borders related to Israel and Palestine are incomplete. The Westbank and the Gaza Strip are not indicated. In an Arab country, the entire country would be labelled "Palestine" and in Israel, the entire country would be labelled "Israel". In Israel it is actually illegal to produce a commercial map that indicates the boundaries of the Westbank and Gaza.

Turkey resorts map coast

Resorts may not be what you imagine when you hear the name "Turkey". Due to its status as a Muslim country and its location on the edge of the Middle East, many people`s image of Turkey is that of veils and camels. But southern Turkey is a place full of beach resorts, some of which double as massive party towns.

The oldest and well-known of those resort towns are Bodrum and Marmaris, though they have become quite developed and paved over, losing some of their old natural country charm. Many people recommend the Lycian coast, which is slightly more off the beaten tourist path and has maintained more of its old charm.

This is another detailed Turkey map showing roads and geographical features.

Detailed Turkey map

The Republic of Turkey, better known as just "Turkey", is a country located mostly in Western Asia. Part of its territory, however, is located in southeastern Europe, in an area called East Thrace, bordering Greece and Bulgaria. This area inside Europe, which comprises 3% of Turkey`s land mass, includes much of the largest city of Istanbul. Many Turkish citizens view themselves as Europeans rather than Asians or Middle Easterners. But Turkey is often classified as part of the Middle East.

Turkey is bordered to the east by Iran, the southeast by Iraq and Syria, to the northeast by Armenia and Georgia, and to the northwest by Greece and Bulgaria. This geographic position at the crossroads between Europe, the Middle East, and the former USSR has shaped Turkey`s culture and history into what it is today.

The largest city is Istanbul, with a population of around 8.8 million in the city itself, and 13.26 million in the Istanbul metropolitan province. The total population of Turkey is 73,722,988. The capital city of Ankara is located in central Anatolia and has a population of 4.4 million in its metro area.

Amman Map

Down below you can find information about Amman, Jordan as well as Amman map downloads.

Amman is the capital city of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as its most populous city by far. It has a population of about 2 million, with the Greater Amman area having around 2.8 million. That is expected to grow to 6.5 million by 2025 due to rapid migration, thanks to Amman`s impressive economic growth that is unprecedented in the Arab World outside of the Gulf region.

Amman has a long history stemming back to 7000 BC. In the early part of the 20th century, though, it remained a small city. It wasn`t until 1949 when a huge influx of Palestinian refugees from the newly created State of Israel turned the small town into a populous city. This happened once again in 1967 after Israel seized the Westbank from Jordan. Amman remains a common destination for refugees fleeing the tensions in Iraq, as well as though seeking refuge from the occupation of the Westbank.

In the summers Amman is a hot and dry city. However, because of its elevation the winters get quite cold with night time temperatures occasionally reaching zero. Frost is common in the night and early morning in winter, and snow occurs once a year or so.

Here are a couple of Amman map images to print or download.

Map of Iran

Down below you can find a reference map of Iran to use in your research or travels.

Map of Iran
Printable Iran Map
Map of Iran and surrounding countries
As you can see in the above map of Iran files, the Islamic Republic of Iran, better know as just "Iran" is a country in the Middle East. It is bordered by Iraq to the west; Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan to the northwest; Turkmenistan to the northeast; and Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east.

Despite the common misperception that Iran is an Arab country, it is in fact not an Arab country. Its main ethnic group is Persians, and the principal language is Farsi (also known as Persian). It is widely considered the cradle of civilization, with the first Persian dynasty existing in 2800 BC (the Elamite Kingdom). The Medes, Achaemenids, Hellenic Seleucids, Parthians, Sassanids, and the Muslims have all conquered and controlled Iran throughout its millenia-old history. Persian innovations and culture became important of Muslim civilization.

The total size of Iran is 1,648,195 km2, which means 636,372 square miles to the Americans out there. Its population is approximately 75,330,000, 90 to 95% of which are Shia Muslims. 4 to 8% are Sunni Muslims, and 2% are non-Muslims including Bahai`s, Jews, Christians, and other small minorities.

As for ethnicity, roughly 65% are considered Persians, 16% are Azerbaijanis, 7% are Kurds, Lurs are 6%, Arabs and Baluchi are both 2%, Turkmens are 1%, and various other tribal minorities make up a fraction of 1% each.

The capital city is Tehran, with an estimated population of 8,429,807. It is a huge metropolis, one of the biggest in Western Asia.

Map of Syria

Syria is an Arabic country located in the Middle East. Its full name is the Syrian Arab Republic. It is bordered by Lebanon to the west as well as the Mediterranean Sea; Turkey to the north; Iraq to the east; Jordan to its south; and Israel to the southwest. One portion of Syria called the Golan Heights is occupied by Israel after being taken in the 6 Day War of 1967. Israel since annexed the Golan Heights, but negotiations to return them in exchange for peace have taken place intermittently.

The population of Syria is 22,717,417. 75% of those people are Sunni Muslim, 13% are Shia Muslim, 9% are Christian, and 3% are Druze. About 90% of the population is ethnically Arab, with significant minorities of Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmen, and Circassians.

The total land area of the country is 185,180 square km, or 71,479 square miles.

The current president is Bashar al-Assad, yet there is currently an uprising aimed at toppling his rule. His repression of this uprising has received worldwide condemnation.

Here you can find a map of Syria for your reference and your travels.

Map of Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, better known as simply "Jordan", is an Arab country in the Middle East. It is bordered by Israel and the Westbank to the west, Iraq to the east, Syria to the north, and Saudi Arabia to the south. It is mostly landlocked, though is has access to the Gulf of Aqaba and Red Sea from the port city of Aqaba. It shares no land border with Egypt, but Egypt lies in close proximity to Jordan and is accessible by ferry boat from Jordan.

The capital city of Jordan is Amman, which has a population of approximately 2 million. The national population is 6,407,085.

The whole country, has a an altitude above 300 meters (984 feet), with the exception of the Jordan Rift Valley which leads down to the Dead Sea. The Rift Valley is the hottest part of the country, particularly in winter when its temperatures remain relatively warm. Amman, by contrast, can see snow, and cold temperatures with precipitation are common in the winter. Average daytime winter temperatures are 13 degrees, a far cry from the sweltering desert heat that most Westerners think of when they imagine the Middle East. The summers in Jordan, however, are indeed very hot and dry.

Here you can choose a map of Jordan that suits your needs

Map of Isreal

If you are looking for a map of Isreal you can find some below. Israel is a small country in the Middle East, that was created from the British Mandate territory called Palestine. Isreal was created as a Jewish state, and the Westbank became administered by Jordan, and the Gaza Strip became administerd by Egypt. Jordan and Egypt's territories are now under partial Israeli occupation and partial Palestinian self rule.

Isreal (minus Gaza and the Westbank) has a total population of 7,465,000. The population is 75.4% Jewish, 20% Arab, and 4% other minorities including Russian immigrants of partial Jewish ancestry. The total land area of Isreal (minus all disputed territories) is only 20,770 square km. For comparison, that is about 2/3 the size of Vancouver Island. That makes Israel the 34th most densely populated country in the world with 356.8 people per square kilometer. This small size and high population density plays a roll in Isreal's territorial disputes with its neighbours.

This road map of Israel shows lots of detail, but be careful because it does not show the borders of the Westbank and Gaza. In Israel those boundaries are not allowed to be printed on maps.

This map of Israel shows lots of detail

This map of Isreal shows the Palestinian autonomous areas. In yellow are areas theoretically under full Palestinian control. Nearby there are blue-green areas that represent Palestinian civil control and joint Israeli-Palestinian control of security. The other areas in between remain under full Israeli control. This map may be a little bit out of date because those areas continue to slowly change as Palestinians are given control over more land.

I hope you find the above maps of Israel and their explanations informative. Israel is a fascinating place where history is being made on a daily basis. I highly recommend you visit so you can see the situation firsthand.

Dead Sea Map

If you are looking for a Dead Sea map you can find one down below. I have visited the Dead Sea several times and its a fascinating otherworldly place. It really does look like something out of a science fiction film, especially the southern end of the lake which looks like the landscape of another planet.

The Dead Sea is a lake in the Middle East, bordered to the east by Jordan, and bordered to the west by the Westbank on its nothern end, and Israel on its southern end. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometers long from top to bottom, and 18 km wide at its widest point. It is a highly saline lake, because there is no way for water to drain from it other than by evaporation that leaves behind the salt. This high saline quality of the water is what allows people to float and have a weightless experience in the Dead Sea's waters. It's a must-do experience for all travelers.

Here are the Dead Sea maps below.

Maps Of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

A lush park in Abu Dhabi, UAEAbu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. It is also the 2nd largest city in the country after Dubai. It has a population of 945,268. A large majority of these people are foreign expatriates working in UAE, with only a minority being local Emiratis.

You can see from the maps that Abu Dhabi city lies on a T-shaped peninsula stretching out into the Persian Gulf (called the Arabian Gulf by Emiratis and other Arabs!).

There is a lot of wealth in the UAE so Abu Dhabi is a well-developed city with a lot of high end accomodation, beautiful parks in the middle of the city, luxury hotels, etc. It does however suffer from some of the problems of urban crowding, and poverty issues amongst the expat population from India and Pakistan.

Here are some maps of Abu Dhabu, UAE:

Map Of Cairo Egypt

Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is a massive metropolis and has the triple designation of being the largest city in Egypt, the largest city in Africa, and the largest city in the Arab World. It's population is around 12 million according to the 2008 census, but that number is not exactly reliable as nobody knows how many people are in Cairo without proper documentation or even an address. The metropolitan area has an estimated population of 17.8 million people.

The Nile River runs through Cairo, with the city center lying on the east bank of the river. Giza and the Giza pyramids lie on the west bank of the river and require you to cross a bridge.

I have been to Cairo twice, and it is an exciting city. But it can be a little overwhelming because of its sheer size, population density, and chaos. I personally enjoy that kind of overwhelming chaos, because it's something I can't experience at home.

The downsides to Cairo are pollution (if you wear sandles, you will come to your hotel with very dirty feet, and when you blow your nose black soot will come out), and con artists. Be careful of scams, anywhere in the city center but especially around Midan Tahrir. Be wary of people who approach you in the street -- they always want something from you.

But Cairo makes an amazing travel destination if you can't keep your wits about you.

Below you can find a map of Cairo Egypt.

I hope you found a Cairo Egypt map that was useful for you. Enjoy your trip to North Africa!

Map Of Al Asad Iraq

Al Asad, Iraq military base and airfield.
Al Asad is the largest coalition military base and airbase in Western Iraq, located in Al Anbar Province. "Al Asad" means "The Lion" in Arabic.

The base is secured by a 21 km security perimeter, with a city-like self-contained community inside, much like Baghdad's Green Zone (I've never been there, but this is what I understand from reading about it). It contains the conveniences of a regular American town, such as famous fastfood restaurants and theaters.

Because of its large size and high level of security, it is often visited by celebrities, entertainers, and members of the US administration.

Below you can find a map of Al Asad Iraq. If you know of a more detailed, better map please let me know and I will add it. I haven't found a close-up detailed one--maybe they're not released for security reasons.

This first map show's Al Asad's location in Iraq.

Egypt Physical Map Images

Egypt physical map geography info for Middle East and North Africa studies. The Arab Republic of Egypt is located in North Africa, with the Sinai Peninsula located in Western Asia (the Suez Canal considered the dividing point between Africa and Asia. It is sometimes included in certain definitions of the Middle East, because of it's partial location in Asia. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the north of Egypt, while it borders Libya to the west, Israel and the Palestinian-controlled Gaza Strip to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, and Sudan to the south.

Egypt is quite a large country with an area of 1,001,450 square kilometers (386,660 sq miles), but most of its population of 80 million live near the Nile River and delta, creating a densely populated narrow strip of arable land. The vast desert areas are sparsely populated.

Cairo, the massive capital city of Egypt, is both the largest city in Africa and in the entire Arab world.

Here you can find an Egypt physical map to become familiar with Egypt's geography.
