I made my birthday wishlist, with some of the Lee starter kit stuff you blogged about a while back, and distributed it to interested parties. With a little luck I should join the ranks of the handloaders by fall.
Paul, it's an Army model. The Navy has an exposed ramrod all the way to the cylinder. (I love my black powder pistols. Have even carried one as a carry piece, much to the chagrin of my buddies.)
Also, that's a slick '62 Police you have there. IMHO, it is the most graceful looking Colt revolver, new or old. The rare, fluted-cylinder 1860 Army and the '61 Navy comes close.
That's a very good press, just as good as the green, yellow and blue ones. (I have a "green" one set up for .223.)
You'll discover that the more you reload, the more you'll shoot. I would strongly suggest you get a balance scale. Lee has one that is inexpensive. I have one and used it quite a bit. For rifles, however, you'll need one that will measure larger weights. The basic Lee scale doesn't go high enough.
Next, you'll want to install a Dillon SDB, one for each pistol caliber you own!
BTW, very nice header graphic. Makes me want to get into black powder. Maybe a nice Colt Navy...
I see that while you are shall I say "cost conservative" on equipment, you don't skimp on the components.
Those look like some nice Hornady XTP 230 grain JHP from where I'm sitting. I prefer Hornady over everything else for handgun bullets.
The Eagles have made some excellent music over the years. I had the pleasure of meeting and partying with Glenn Frey and Don Henley back in the 70s. They were pretty good folks.
I met Joe Walsh once too. He's fun but he was batshit crazy back in those days.

Neat picture, and Eagles lyrics too!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new press.
Welcome back home!
ReplyDeleteI was never much for cookie cutter women, but I prefer it in my cartridges.
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it back - and I like your new header, too.
ReplyDeleteColt Dragoon, I believe? My Walker didn't have the latch at the leading edge of the loading lever.
Isn't that funny. That's what I say when I look over my loading block full of shiny brass.
ReplyDeleteOh, but the wooden loading block. Up until now I wasn't aware that one could hand load in style. (Is that mahogany? :-)
Nice job setting the crimp. It looks nearly perfect with just a bit of taper.
ReplyDeleteExcellent writing as usual below and I like the new picture on the headliner.
Keep up the great work.

ReplyDeleteNice looking family that you have!
ReplyDeleteOK, do we need to come over and waterboard you to find out where you got the primers? :P
ReplyDeleteSorry; dumb question. Resolution set too high on the monitor. It looks like a Navy model, and it's still a great photo.
ReplyDeleteThe primers came from a little "out of the way" small little gun shop off the beaten path.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lady, you never fail me.
ReplyDeleteBrigid;
ReplyDeleteYou are now hooked on re-loading. It's a good thing.

Nice looking ammo.
ReplyDeleteAmmo for life in the fast lane ... how does it group and chrono out?

ReplyDeleteGreatness. Joe Walsh isn't the best singer on the planet, but he nails that song, even in concert today....
Great shot.
ReplyDeleteShiney is right :-)
