Another great class last night. We worked on Log Cabin blocks as well as one Courtyard Steps block. Next week is the final week of making blocks when we tackle Flying Geese – can’t wait.
The quilts are looking good so far.

We had a great class earlier this week. The homework from the first class is here.
Didn’t the blocks turned out wonderful. Can’t wait until Wednesday to see the next installment.

One person had car trouble so hopefully we will see her blocks next week. We then worked on Nine Patch blocks and each of them got several blocks done. I am loving the fabrics for each quilt – such fun to see blocks that are exactly alike but so very different.

Every year I teach a Make and Take day at Tiny Stitches. It is scheduled for November 15. We always have a fun time and the students go home with several projects that they take home – usually completed or very close to being completed.
Here are the projects for this year.
There is a bag, a covered journal, a covered (wool) tape measure, a table runner and a fold up tool bag that doubles as a pad for your sewing machine, keeping your tools handy.

We had the last class last night. A couple of people were unable to attend but I am hoping to get photos of their quilt tops later. Here are the quilts.
As usual it is so much fun to see all the different fabric choices and how they turn out.

I made two more Halloween blocks for the block lottery. I still have some more fabric but I think three will be enough. Here they are.
I had forgotten how much fun it is to make wonky stars.
I finally remembered to take couple of photos with the Halloween bag with the lights turned on.
It is really cute – even cuter with the lights turned on. There is a pocket inside to hold the battery pack.

I made a Halloween bag for the shop – it is so cute.
It has little purple lights – I will get a photo tomorrow with the lights turned on. It is already a hit at the quilt shop.

Another great class last night. First we had a little party with the ice cream, blackberry cobbler, pineapple bacon pound cake, cookies, cheesy bread sticks, ranch crackers, apricot bars and more! Yum! Here is the ice cream being made.
I used a recipe from Martha Stewart that involved vanilla beans and a custard base. Takes a lot of time but it was worthwhile. Here is a link to the recipe I used.
We worked on flying geese blocks.
Next week we start putting the quilts together.

I went to work last night and found two projects I thought I would share. First is Donna’s Letty’s Bag. She used glow in the dark fabric.
I really love it – wish it was mine. If you are interested in the pattern you can find it by clicking on My Sister’s Blog on the left side of my blog and follow it to Robin’s blog. It is one of my sister Robin’s patterns.
Next is a quilt by Cheryl. What a great quilt.
My connection to this quilt is that she didn’t have a good bright fabric collection so I gave her my 2 1/2 inch strip box and she used it to do the last word.
Enjoy!

Next month the three (yes that is right three) quilt shops in Marietta are having a yearly small shop hop called Sweet Home Marietta. The focus this time is table settings. Each shop will have a free pattern to give out. Ours is going to be a table topper celebrating holidays. Each employee is making a version of the table topper to display. I selected bright Christmas fabric from Michael Miller.
First I made the center of the top and was quite upset with the way it turned out. Can you see the problem?
If I had wanted to line up those bottom stripe, I couldn’t but by accident, it sure did. I then took it apart and made sure the stripes were not lined up. I think it looks better now. I also got the border put on.
Now it just needs to be quilted and it is done.

Great class last night. They all brought their rail fence blocks from last week and we moved on to making nine patches.
Next week we will tackle half square triangles!
Melinda
Yea! I finished the Christmas quilt top yesterday. There are a lot of pieces in this quilt and some pretty tricky piecing going on. It is now ready for quilting and I bought a backing and white batting for it.
It is 72 x 77. I even made the binding for it and will have it ready to put on as soon as I figure out how to quilt it.

Only one more row before I can start putting the Christmas Row Quilt together. Of course the last row is the reindeer and it is by far the most complicated. I have started sewing the strips that will be sewn into the reindeer. Lots of baggies being filled.

On Saturday night we had a mystery party at the quilt shop. I have coordinated this several times in the past and we always have a great time – this one was great. There were 12 people participating. I cut kits and there were two choices. Cool colors and warm colors. The cool included blues, purple and turquoise. Here is one of the cool quilts on the design wall. Not sure if this is the way she will actually put it together but it is an interesting setting.
The warm colors were also great – I think this is the one I would have picked.
Roxanne was playing with her blocks – again I am not sure this will be the final result. The pattern actually called for all the blocks to just be set side to side in the same direction but it is always fun to see what people decide to do.

The Row by Row experience started on Sunday and I was working with Marla. I told her we would be busy and she didn’t think we would. I won! We had a lot of people stop by to pick up our row pattern. We also sold a lot of kits for the rows.
I love the little ducks – especially the Kaffe duck swimming the wrong way!
