Creative Kitty Layout - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!  Today I have a fun, messy style layout to share with you.   I'm playing around trying some new {to me} things and I really love the messy mixed media backgrounds that are becoming popular, but I still want to make them 'me'.

One way to keep things 'me' is to still incorporate my love of handmade elements and the fabulous texture of fabrics.  I'm loving the look so far!

Today I have used Donna's "Dear Sir" Stamp in the very background using Midnight Mix'd Media Inx Chox and made sure it was thoroughly dry {quick zap with a heat tool for the Chox and it's all good} before adding a very thin layer of gesso in random spots.  After this I've added pattern with a stencil using Texture Paste.  Once it all dried I had fun spraying SmoochSpritz inks and let them run!  I've used Caramel Latte SmoochSpritz and then to get the grey tone colour, I've mixed some Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Re-inker, Water, WoodStain and IceRink SmoochSpritz to get a lighter tone.  For the ink 'splatters' I used Truffle Mix'd Media Ink Re-Inker with some water to create my own flat colour spray.

I've created a ruffle {yep, I'm still very much in love with my ruffles} and a Worn Rose using Donna's Rose Creations Die from Spellbinders.  You can find a tutorial link on my blog for the Worn Rose HERE.  I love these roses, they almost sit flat... well flat for me, but have such wonderful impact.  I'm not too sure what I'd do without Donn'a fabulous Flower Dies because nothing beats having your very own hand-made perfectly matched flower!

Thanks for stopping by again!  Don't forget to check out our latest Sketch-n-Color inspiration challenge... you can find it on the blog HERE.

Me & You - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi all!!   I'm loving this little 8x10 I've done of Kel and myself.  He's a great kid and keeps me laughing with his antics.  This one I thought we'd have a nice photo together... yeah, perhaps not!  But it's him, that's us... and so this one has become a favourite photo.

I've kept the colours very simple for this one, just the browns and denim patterns from Donna Salazar's Family Jeans collection {Denim Swirl, Denim Stripe and; Family Notebook B}.  The clouds and title are from the Fun and Funky Cutout Sheet which comes with the Paper Pads.  The edges were distressed with Zutter's Distrezz-it-All, I love the fabulous torn, feathered distressing it gives.

The cut-outs really make for quick and simple, yet perfectly matched embellishements.

Thanks for stopping by, remember to take care of you!

Unique You - Donna Salazar Design

Well I've been a bit slack it seems yeah?  I had some posts ready, and didn't schedule them... what a doofus!  I put it down to being a very busy single mum, who got sick, and overworked, and stressed... that'll cover it right?   So after a little blog hiatus I'll get to sharing again.  And soon I should be back on track creatively and sharingly as well... for now here is one that's been on the DSD blog already.

This one features yellow and grey!  I love this colour combination, the different patterns in yellow are so effective, and fun!

I have used papers from Donna Salazar's Fun & Funky collection {Yellow Polkas. Recycle B} as well as her Family Jeans collection {Family Dots B} and the grey in the background uses Chalkboard from the Storybook Collection.  I love that it's so easy to combine different papers from different collections!

The GCD chipboard alphas were inked with Stormy Mix'd Media Inx, given a quick glaze of glossy accents and then touched with Fairy Dust Glitter.

I've kept the embellishments simple here today, keeping the focus on the fabulous paper patterns.  A simple flower, a touch of yellow in a paper rose, some sparklets to mirror the rhinestone flower centre, crocheted trim, simple black and white tickets tucked in and a cute little spool top!

Until next time, take care of you xoxo

Free to be Me... Reverse Canvas - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi lovelies!

Today I have a mixed media canvas to share with you, using one of my favourite of Donna Salazar Designs chippy pieces, Bonnie's Birdcage

I used the reverse of a deep frame art canvas to create my background and simple scrunched up some printed tissue paper and adhered it with glue'n'seal.  Then I popped it into a spray box and hit it with Smooch Spritz in Green Olive, Caramel Latte and Spun Sugar.  The lace in the background was hand dyed using Smooch Spritz Caramel Latte... these colours are so very versatile!

I made a couple of Worn Roses using Spellbinders Rose Creations Die, the metallic sheen was simply some metallic rub swept over the flower once it was dried.  You can download a tutorial for these roses HERE.

The cage itself was first painted with white spray paint and then inked with Mossy, Honey and Stormy Mix'd Media Inx.  These were blended as I worked to create a soft worn effect.
The chipboard alphas from GCD Studios were simply sprayed with Smooch Spritz to match the background colours.

Then all it needed was a cute little bird popping out from the cage!  It needed something to perch on so I went outside and picked up some twigs and dried grasses that the hot summer weather left for me.

Thanks for popping by today!

You Are... - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!

Today I have another sweet layout to share showcasing my gorgeous god-daughter.  I love that even though she lives so far away from me, I can see her each day on Facebook {and nick her photos LOL}.

It's a simple little layout, but packed with some favourite bits... my ruffles, some crocheted doilies, butterflies, polka dots and that wonderful corrugated board!

The cut out titles in Donna's paper pads make finding a title so easy!

And I created a new flower tutorial for you!  I wanted something that didn't need a million layers, but still looked 'full'... I'm loving the outcome.

Balance - Mixed Media Canvas - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!

I found a canvas in the boot of my car the other day {it's pretty scary in there, I'm always losing things} and I loved the long shape of this one, it was just enough to spark my mixed media mojo back into action!  And so I grabbed out all my mediums, my fave Donna Salazar goodies and played... here's the result!

I ripped up some papers from Donna's Natural Beauty collection and glued them to the canvas, and then overlaid some torn and scrunched up dictionary papers from Donna's Mix'd Media Stax 2 and glued these down also to create a collage style background.

Next I adhered an old doily and a couple of chipboard shapes from Want 2 Scrap, then using Donna's large Heart Stencil from Want 2 Scrap created the heart patterns in the top left and bottom right corners.  I also added some interesting texture mediums I have, such as resin sand and opaque flakes.

Once dried, I then spritzed on the colour, River Mossy and Ice Rink Smooch Spritz as well as some Peaches Mix'd Media Ink straight from the refill bottle.  I sprayed it all with water to allow the colours to run.  To help highlight the textures further I added some platinum metallic rub over the canvas.  Then it was time to embellish!!

The title was added using GCD Chipboard Alpha Stickers and some printed text. The colour was added using Mix'd Media Inx and softened by spraying lightly with water.

I cut and rolled some bitty blossoms using various papers from Donna's 6x6 paper pads. The flower petals were touched with Glue Gloss and then sprinkled with Fairy Dust Glitter for added shimmer!

I also cut a butterfly from with Donna's Wonderful Wings die, and overlaid it with some Wonderful Wings Bling from Want 2 Scrap.  I scattered some glass pebbles through the canvas and finished it all off with a matching satin bow.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Until next time take care of you!

Home Decor Letter - Donna Salazar Designs

I created this for a friend who hasn't been well, just to let her know I've been thinking of her, something little she can add to her inspiration board in her studio.   I haven't given it to her yet, oopsy... so I guess if she's reading she'll have a little surprise before the surprise LOL!

I've used a simple papier mache "K" I picked up at my local craft store and first gave it a coat of gesso and then covered the front with some paper from Donna's gorgeous Family Jeans collection.

I've then cut some butterflies from Want2Scrap Canvas using Donna's Wonderful Wings Dies from Spellbinders.  I've dabbed the butterflies with Clearsnap's Chiffon Mix'd Media Inx, spritzed them with water to allow the ink to blend into the canvas and then set them aside to dry.  Once dried I overlayed them with the matching NestaBling from Want2Scrap.

I used Donna's Natural Beauty Chipboard Alphas by GCD Studios to add her name and "create" up the side of the letter.

I love the simplicity of this one... the gorgeous paper shines through and creates a happy backdrop for the butterflies.

Peace - DSD

Hiya!  I've been having more fun with Donna's Family Jeans collection... I love the wood and denim tones that feature in this line, very much a favourite at the moment!

click image for a larger image
For this layout I wanted to make a feature of Donna's Chipboard Swirls from Want2Scrap and make them represent the windy afternoon we spent at the beach.  I traced them onto the paper and cut away the excess.  The chippy was spray painted white and then touched with Denim, Honey and Truffle Mix'd Media Inx from Clearnsap.  Then I misted them with water to allow the colours to blend and create the soft watercolour tones.

I created a couple of flowers from denim sheets from Want2Scrap using Donna's Rose Creations Die from Spellbinders.  To get them to sit 'up' instead of flat I worked some PVA glue among the layers which helped stiffen the denim and allowed it to keep it's shape.

I've used the binding seam from some old denim jeans to create little strips and accented them with the little banner Diecuts from the Family Jeans Diecut pack.  I've also finished of my hand made ruffle with some of the same binding seam.

To add some more little detail snippets I tore off some dictionary print from Donna's Mix'd Media Stax 2 from GCD Studios, scrunched them up and tucked them in under the layers.

I chose the word "Peace" from my quote title to stand out... because I love those little moments of peace you can find in each day.  I've used the matching Family Jeans Chipboard Alphas from GCD Studios and touched the edges with Pewter and Truffle Mix'd Media Inx. Since the inks stay wet for a while it allows you time to blend them together easily!

Together - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi lovelies!!  Today I have a layout of myself and Natasha to share.  This girl seriously rocks as a friend... she's always there for me, as I am for her.  We giggle over silly things, we say WTF over other kinds of silly things, we share silly stories and we do silly things together... even though she lives on the other side of the world from me.  Modern technology makes it possible for us to be in contact daily, ok twice daily... thank goodness for wifi - LOL.

Click the image for a larger view.
I had lots of girly fun making this layout... sweet pink with brown using Donna's Family Jeans and Natural Beauty Collections from GCD Studio, always a yummy combination! I love that so many of Donna's Collections can be mixed and matched so easily.

I created a big boofy flower with Donna's Grand Peony die from Spellbinders as my centrepiece for the flower cluster and sat it on top of some chipboard scrolls from Want 2 Scrap.

Some paper from the Mixed Media Stax 2 made a sweet little ruffle... I love seeing the little hints of words, sometimes the combinations accidentally work just perfect!

And I couldn't resist cutting some butterflies from canvas with Donna's Wonderful Wings Die, love them so much, and the little resin heart is for Natasha, coz that's her thing!

That's all for today... will be back again soon!

Play - Green Tara

Hi everyone!  Here's another fur baby layout, this time it's my crazy pooch Coco.  She's such fun and has such personality... she's soft and gentle with me, loud and rukus'y with Darren and teases Kel like a sibling would.  She definitely knows each of our characters and our roles within the family!

Click on the Image for a Larger View
As always, Green Tara products add the extra little touches that make a layout.  Here I have used some small Roses tucked in under a fold of paper.  The cream and red works beautifully with the earthy tones of the papers.

I've also tucked in a sweet Satin Rosette for a touch of elegance, then added a snippet of red Burlap Ribbon for an added splash of colour.

I tied a big bow using Coloured Jute Ribbon.  All the Green Tara Ribbons tie beautifully, and this one is no exception... it always creates a perfectly shaped bow.

As a final touch I have used some 10mm Lace Ribbon over the top of my paper ruffle.  It's a perfect accompaniment for the vintage doilies I have used.

Thanks for visiting today!
