Winter in February

as we lean towards spring
each snowfall inspires my smiles
taking to heart winter's spirit

breath-enhancing sunsets.....

morning ice crystals
made of fairy wings

rocks under faceted ice
make ones heart sing

celebrated my birthday at one of my beloved places

stayed for the alpine glow sunset

the first sunset in this post is of the night before
very similar sunsets
and
so beautiful

the sweet little birds
that stay with us all winter

~

lovely end of winter to you!

The Park, Glacier National Park

as the sun nears the horizon

snow shows off the beach boulders in a different way

without sunlight the rocks colors are muted, appealing in a earth toned way

reflections are day dream beauties

tucked into that far off canyon, it is snowing

Beautiful and Fun Nature

this is how it began

the little nuthatch got braver

ta-daa!
seed accomplished

Hey! I don't like a mouse near my food!
(this, tiniest mouse I ever saw.... was nearly under my foot. Thank goodness I saw it)

then the mountain chickadees joined in

I have these wee birds following me around the forest for food
I would have never guessed this could happen

anything
for food

my favorite

Winter, lovely Winter

for us, winter has been mild

in my little snow belt
we have but a few inches of snow
and
some ice crystals to brighten our days

always a joy to have the natives pass through

all fluffed up in their winter coats

most our days are cloudy
and when the sun shines upon us
joy rises naturally

sunsets light
dances upon some trees longer than others

I hope this finds you all well
and
enjoying your days and nights

Winter Glimpses

we love our little winter chickadees
this one
black-capped chickadee

sometimes are winter sky is like above
daydream inspiring

sometimes peace inspiring:

we are still bundled under a deep blanket of snow

which makes tracking so much fun
who walked over the bridge during the night:

the little nuthatch has its down fluffed up:

Sunset

when the sun nears the horizon
and
mountains reflect on an icy lake
ones breath gentles
and
light becomes a healing balm

~

icy angel wings

they were invisible to the ordinary eye
but the lake knew they were there
the wind also

the wind stirred the lake waters
and
sprayed it on the wings
so that we can see them in the form of ice
and
tuck their beauty into our heart for ever more

we went to lake McDonald
on the eve of my birthday
lovely to say goodbye to my year with the setting of the sun

Happy Equinox to You

as we cross the threshold of a new season
we have glimpses of summer and autumn both

change and mysteries tend to be tangible at this time

the spots on fawns
are fading

I found a moth's cocoon
will it survive being buried under snow all winter

a mix of leaves cuddle on the pond

sunsets
after rain
offer their own special drama

here and there
a mushroom can be found

Happy New Season to you!

Winter becomes Spring

though most our days are cloudy
around sunset
the sun often lights up our world

rain instead of snow
these days

snow is thawing
my creek and ponds (still frozen)
rise and overflow their banks

I stepped outside
 a skunk wandering by
happy and cautious was I

last night it got down to 19F
creek and ponds
froze over
creating their temporary
sacred geometry
~
I believe that  winter has bowed out to spring
