as apartment managers.
7:00 pm Robert moves into our new apartment on the fourth floor with the help of 4 others. It was a long and tiring night. The girls and I stayed in Salem.11:00 pm Robert takes a shower in our bathroom to clean off the sweat.
12:45 am I get a phone call (in Salem) from my boss the property manager. She said the lady in such and such a number (below our unit) had water leaking out of her fire sprinkler onto her bed! (it wasn't so bad getting the phone call since I was up nursing Addie)
12:50 am I call Robert, he answers the phone by saying "do you realize what time it is?" I give him the news. And he goes to check on the lady, who by then was fine and the water had stopped leaking. We put two and two together and realized that the plumbing from our bath had some issues. Luckily we have two baths.
The next day or should I say that morning the girls and I show up at the new place to move in and unpack. My mom comes to help with the girls. The contractor of the building come out to the complex and "tightens" the plumbing and claims it's fixed. He leaves, we do a test run and no dice, the water is still leaking onto the people below us.
12:45 pm We start washing dishes in the sink only to find out that the pipes leak. Robert fiddles around with it and eventually gets the problem solved.
2:30 pm Mom empties the dishwasher and notices that there is some water still left at the bottom by the drain. I tell her it's just fine and that she is paranoid that everything is broken.
9:00 pm Mom goes to shower after a day of unpacking in the guest bathroom.
9:15 pm We get a knock a the door. A man from such and such a number (below our unit) has water leaking through his fire sprinkler onto his bed. We promise not to take anymore showers so he can sleep.
The next day the plumber comes out to fix the first ceiling leak. The man from the second ceiling leak says everything is now okay.
10:00 am Just in case I shower in a vacant unit down the hallway.
2:00 pm Robert runs a load of dishes in the dishwasher.
2:30 pm I realize that there are bubbles leaking from the dishwasher. I open it up to find a ton of bubbles and water.
3:00 pm After tinkering around with the dishwasher we find out the dishwasher drains into the garbage disposal but there is a piece of plastic (on the garbage disposal) blocking the flow of the dirty water from the dishwasher. Robert follows the installation instruction and removes the plastic and the dishwasher finally drains.
7:00 pm Robert gives the girls a bath in the guest bathroom and low and behold it's still leaking out of Mr. Mans ceiling.
10:00 pm We get a knock at the door, the couple from a corner unit say that the guy above them was changing out his sink faucet and sprang a water leak.
10:01 pm Robert goes to the unit and finds the unit flooded with an inch of water. This man decided he didn't like his bathroom sink faucet and wanted to change it out himself. And since this building is new it has new plumbing and didn't know how to turn the water off.
The next morning the plumber comes back out and fixes the same problem in ceiling leak number two.
It was a rough go round those first comple of days but things are getting smoothed out. And we really enjoy our new house and new neighborhood so a few rough patches will be worth it in the long run.
So SORRY! It's tough to be broken in to managing. Maintenance issues seems to come in waves here too. Good luck and merry christmas!

ReplyDeleteHi! Emily I'm glad I found your blog. Life as a manager is rough sometimes (Yes, I've been there too). So sorry it was your first night and you had plumbing issues. It will get easier and easier. Hang in there.
