Catchup on Fantasy Football

First off, I signed up for an actual fantasy league on nfl.com. This is the Redskins Fanatics league. In that league I was lucky enough to draft Drew Brees, but unfortunately one of my top wide receivers, Anthony Gonzalez was injured. My team won its first two games, but in the third week it doesn't as good, but they are favored by 7 points anyway. Another of my wide receivers is questionable. Still, they are 2-0 and leading their division at the moment. In game 1 they won 82-70 against the ShingStars1125 with Drew Brees getting 48 points, the Ravens defense with 11, Gostowski kicking for 7, K. Boss for 6, R. Brown and B. Jacobs for 5 each and everyone else (the WRs) 0. In game 2 they won 88-58 against Tunatime with Brees getting 28, but Brown coming up with 25, the Ravens defense a poor 8, but Gostowski with 9. B. Jacobs got 5, and the 3 WRs and TE combined for 13. Had Tom Brady had a good day it would have been a lot closer.

Over at the home team challenge, on week one my players got 95 points with Brees' 48 leading the way, the Ravens with 11 and Westbrook at 12. This ranked #5054 overall and 856 amongst Ravens fans. On week 2 I decided to not use Brees since he was so expensive and went with Brady who did a disappointing 6. Frank Gore was my leader with 35 points. I had a total of 71 points. Due to a lot of other people choosing Brady the ranking this week was better than last - #4783 overall and #578 amongst Ravens fans. For the two weeks I am now #4077 overall and #566 amongst Ravens fans.

In the NFL Playbook challenge for week 1 I had Drew Brees (358), Adrian Peterson (198), and Larry Fitzgerald (71) for a total of 627 yards. Week 2 was worse with Brady (218), Portis (88), and Randy Moss (24) for 330 yards and a total now of 957 yards and an overall rank of 3039.

In the touchdown challenge I had LaDainian Tomlinson for week 1 and Adrian Peterson for week 2 so I have a streak of 2 games there.

NFL Playoff Challenge Divisonal Playoff Week

In the playoff challenge this time around we had to sway out 4 players. We brought in Donovan McNabb from the Eagles (17), DeAngelo Williams (6) and Steve Smith (10) from Carolina and added another Raven - Todd Heap (2). Unfortunately Le'Ron McClain (1) had a bad week, though Derrick Mason (13), and Matt Stover (7) did okay. The Ravens' defense and special teams =gave up too much yardage but did okay (13). That got us just 69 points and we need to replace the two Carolina players for the NFC and AFC championships. The high score for the week was 136 with people who chose Chargers players at QB and RB, but they are going to have to swap those out. Our ranking was 143421. Our overall ranking with 172 points is a pitiful 99079. At least the Ravens won, which is the important thing. We hope they'll win again this week, no matter how the individual fantasy statistics are.

NFL Playoff Challenge Wildcard Week

As seen in the advertisements, NFL.com has a playoff challenge like they did last year. This year after the first week of picking 7 players and 1 team from the wildcards you can make 8 changes through to the Super Bowl. So, it is good to pick players from teams you think are going to go far. For the week we picked 3 Ravens players and the Ravens defense, 3 Colts and a Falcon. Just the Ravens won, so for the next week we need to replace the other 4. From the Colts we had Peyton Manning (18), Reggie Wayne (18), and Dallas Clark (3). We had Michael Turner from theFalcons (10). From the Ravens we had Le'Ron McClain (11), Derrick Mason (7), Matt Stover (9), and the Ravens' defense and special teams (27). That brought us a total of 103 points. The high scroe was 149 points so we ended up ranked 76455. Last year we started with 85 points giving us a ranking of 40879.

Hometeam Challenge Week 17

It was the final week in the Ravens hometown challenge. Again, the results were not as good as we would have liked with no standout performances. The Ravens defense and special teams were the highlight (19), followed by Chad Pennington (18) and Clinton Portis (12). Matt Stover (9) did okay, but the rest were lackluster with Brian Westbrook (4), Vincent Jackson (7), Derrick Mason (7), and Chris Cooley (5). Both Cooley and Mason came close to TDs in their games, but not close enough. So, the results were 81 points. For the week we were #259 (down from #244) amongst Ravens fans and #2119 (down from #2091) overall (we should have gone with Drew Brees at QB). We ended with 1526 points and are #144 (from #142) amongst Ravens fans and #1253 (from #1270) overall. Last season we ended up with 1638 points but #148 amongst Ravens fans and overall #2059. So we had less points than last year, but did better in the overall standings.

Over at the NFL fantasy challenge - the playbook challenge - for the final week we picked Chad Pennington (2x202), DeAngelo Williams (2x178), and Roddy White (2x48) for a total of 856 points and a final total of 8814 points - a ranking of 5463 ( up from 6226).

Hometeam Challenge Week 16

In the Ravens hometown challenge it was not as good as we hoped. We were hoping for a better production from the Redskins WRs Moss (2) and Antwaan Randle El (1) as well as Todd Heap (2). The Ravens defense let things down at the end of the game (8), but Matt Stover (15) was a highlight. Clinton Portis (14) did as well as expected, but Steve Slaton (9) was a disappointment. Drwe Brees (26) should have been better, but they let their running backs score too much (both Manning and Cassel did better than in the weeks when we picked them). In all we had 77 points. For the week we were #244 (up from#302) amongst Ravens fans and #2091 (up from #2498) overall. We now have 1445 points and are #142 (from #144) amongst Ravens fans and #1270 (from #1251) overall.

Over at the NFL fantasy challenge - the playbook challenge - for week 16 we had Brett Favre (187), Kevin Smith (2x111), and Andre Johnson (19) for 428 points bringing our total to 7958 points and a ranking of 6226 ( up from 6607).

Hometeam Challenge Week 15

In the Ravens hometown challenge it was another poor week. We weree hoping for some good performance from the Colts, but got just 6 from their defense, 18 from Peyton Manning, and 10 from Reggie Wayne. We also had Marshawn Lynch (13), Brian Westbrook (6), Santana Moss (13), Chris Cooley (3 - including the a loss of two points for the opening drive fumble that helped them lose that game), and Shaun Suisham (7) for a total of 76 points. For the week we were #302 amongst Ravens fans and #2498 overall. We now have 1368 points and are #144 (from #135) amongst Ravens fans and #1251 (from #1221) overall.

Over at the NFL fantasy challenge - the playbook challenge - for week 15 we had Matt Cassel (236), Thomas Jones (82), and Wes Welker (69) for 387 points bringing our total to 7530 points and a ranking of 6607 ( up from 6843).

Hometeam Challenge Week 14

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did not do as well as we hoped. We got just 81 points. We had picked the Matt Cassel (QB)/Randy Moss(WR) combination thinking that the Patriots would pass all over the Seahawks, but we just got 19 and 5 points from them respectively. At RB we had Matt Forte (9) and Adiran Peterson (11). We had Marvin Harrison (13) as WR, Todd Heap as TE (5), Matt Stover (6), and the Bears defense (13). For the week we were #286 amongst Ravens fans and #2362 overall. We now have 1292 points and are #135 (from #133) amongst Ravens fans and #1221 (from #1177) overall.

Over at the NFL fantasy challenge - the playbook challenge - for week 14 we had Aaron Rodgers (299), Kevin Faulk (38), and Randy Moss (56) for 393 points bringing out total to 7143 - ranked 6843 (up from 6980). We did start a new streak in the touchdown challenge just for kicks with Larry Fitzgerald. The two long 13 game streaks were broken this weekend.

Hometeam Challenge Weeks 12 & 13

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did a little better in week 12 - 109 points with Peyton Manning (20), Ravens defense (30), and Marshawn Lynch and Clinton Portis (15 each) leading the way. For the week we were #147 amongst Ravens fans and #1148 overall.

In week 13 we did nearly the same - 105 points. We had a strong showing from Chris Johnson on Thanksgiving Day (24) and the Ravens defense (26). Matt Ryan (20) at QB was a disappointment, but not as much as Clinton Portis (3) and Anquan Boldin (4 - one his worst weeks of the season). We also had Roddy White (11), Matt Stover (10), and Chris Cooley (7). If only we went with Mark Clayton this week - we would have done a lot better. For the week we were #254 amongst Ravens fans and #1987 overall. We now have 1211 points and are #133 amongst Ravens fans and #1177 overall.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge - in Week 12 we had Eli Manning (238), Ray Rice (98), and Derrick Mason (40) for 376 points. In Week Week 13 we had Sage Rosenfels (2x202), Ronnie Brown (2x60), and Donnie Avery (2x4) for 532 points. That brought us to 6750 total. We are now ranked 6980 - which brought us back betwen our week 8 and 9 ranking. In the touchdown challenge we failed both weeks and so the best we can do is 4 weeks, which is what we have. There actually are still two players with 13 week streaks.

Hometeam Challenge Week 11

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did terribly in week 11- as we thought we would on Sunday. We just got 61 points. 3 pts for the Ravens, 4 from Smith at WR, 14 from Jay Cutler, 10 from Matt Forte. Michael Turner's 20 at RB was the highlight. For the week we were #426 amongst Ravens fans and #3908 overall. Overall for the 11 weeks we had 997 points and went from #1027 to #1445 and amongst Ravens fans from #107 to #146. Just terrible luck that weekend.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge we had Peyton Manning (321), Frank Gore (114), and Reggie Wayne (90) for 525 points. Not too bad week over all. That brought our total to 5842 and an overall rank of 5842 (from 6060 last week). We had Brian Westbrook in the touchdown challenge and he failed.

Hometeam Challenge Week 10

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did slightly better than last week with 88 points. There were some big disappointments and the early deadline due to Thursday night football really hurt. It was after Thursday that we heard that Willie Parker wouldn't play and so we got no points from him at running back. Steve Smith did play, but mysteriously only had one reception for 9 yards and so no points. We dropped Todd Heap this week and it turned out he had a great game, but at least Antonio Gates did get 12 points for us. One reason Todd Heap did so well is that Derrick Mason was injured for most of the first half and so we just got 6 points from him. Adrian Peterson was our big point winner with 28 points. Philip Rivers just got 20 at QB and the Ravens got us 18 at defense. For some reason they had a rookie kick one of the Ravens' field goals and so we just got 4 points from Matt Stover. For the week we were #328 amongst Ravens fans and #2694 overall. Overall for the nine weeks we now have 936 points and went from #907 to #1027 and amongst Ravens fans from #100 to #107.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge we had Philip Rivers (315), LaDanian Tomlinson (117) and Steve Smith (9) for a total of 441 points bring to a total of 5317 and an overall rank of 6060 (from 6459 last week). We had Adrian Peterson in the touchdown challenge and he scored.

Hometeam Challenge Week 9

In the Ravens hometown challenge we were brought back to Earth with just 84 points. We had three good performances - Kurt Warner (25) at QB, the Ravens (15) for defense and special teams, and Matt Stover (13) at kicker. Clinton Portis got us 12 at RB. Unfortunately everyone else was well below par - Brian Westbrook (9), Larry Fitzgerald (8), Brandon Marshall (2!), and Todd Heap (0). I don't think a pass was directed at Todd Heap last week, so I'm not going to pick him again for a while. For the week we were #315 amongst Ravens fans and #2456 overall. Overall for the nine weeks we now have 848 points and went from #902 to #907 and amongst Ravens fans from #102 to #100. Our small overall ranking changes show that a lot of people were surprised with the fantasy statistics this past week.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge we had Matt Ryan (2x221), Adrian Petersen (139), and Anquin Boldin (93) for 674 points. Our total score is 4876 with an overall rank of 6459 (from 7417 last week). It was one of our better weeks. In the touchdown challenge we had LenDale White and he did not score, so our streak ends at 4. There actually are 6 players who have a 9 game streak.

Hometeam Challenge Week 8

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did our best ever and were just one point away from getting a prize from the Ravens. I had to take a screen snap to keep a record of this. We got 152 points - landing in 4th place amongst Ravens fans and 21st overall. First place for the Ravens fans was 161 points while there was a tie for 2nd at 153 points. Overall the top score was 163 points. You can see how our picked players did by clicking on the uploaded picture at the right. I don't know whether we can hope to do so well again this season, but we might be lucky. Overall for the eight weeks we now have 764 points and went from #1989 to #902 and amongst Ravens fans from #202 to #102.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge it was a double point week - we had Kurt Warner (381 x 2), Steve Slaton (66 x 2 x2), and Larry Fitzgerald (112 x 2) for a total of 1256 points on the week raising our total to 4202. The high score on the week was 2112. Our total ranking went from 10444 to 7417. In the touchdown challenge we picked Brian Westbrook and our streak is now 4 weeks.

Hometeam Challenge Week 7

In the Ravens hometown challenge we didn't do as well this week, getting just 77 points. Our runnign backs Portis (21 points) and Chris Johnson (22) did quite well, but that was it. We were let down by Brett Favre (3), Plaxico Burress (8), Brandon Marshall (7), Chris Cooley (3), and Shawn Suisham (2). We had the Titans' defense for 11 points. Our weekly standings were #378 (Ravens) and #3428 (overall). Overall for the seven weeks we went from #1860 to #1989 and amongst Ravens fans from #192 to #202. Our drop actually wasn't that bad, probably due to a lot of unexpected poor statistics this week.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge we had a decent week with Jason Campbell (165), Chris Johnson (2x172), and Brandon Marshall (84) for 593 points bringing the total to 2946. The high score for the week was 956 points. Our total ranking went from 13007 to 10444. In the touchdown challenge we picked Clinton Portis and he scored. So we have a streak of 3 at the moment.

Hometeam Challenge Week 6

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did better on points, getting 103 - our best of the season so far. This week we had Drew Brees (30), Clinton Portis (25), the Vikings Defense (20), and Matt Forte (16) getting most of our points. We only got 12 points from our remaining choices. Our weekly standings were #86 (Ravens) and #744 (overall) - our best rankings of the season. The top Ravens fan had 132 points while the best overall had 143 points. Overall for the six weeks we went from #2499 to #1860 and amongst Ravens fans from #271 to #192.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge (you need a different set of three each week) we went with Jay Cutler (214), Clinton Portis (143), and Laveranues Coles (64) for 421 points bringing out total to 2353. The high score for the week was 1022 (which a whole bunch of people mysteriously had - it was three rookies Matt Ryan, Matt Forte, and DeSean Jackson). Our total ranking is now 13007. In the touchdown challenge we picked Matt Forte and he scored. So we have a streak of 2 at the moment.

Hometeam Challenge Week 5

In the Ravens hometown challenge we again didn't as well as the previous week, getting only 77 points. Clinton Portis did great - 21 points, but everyone else had a subpar day. Tony Romo (21), Tomlinson (5), Santana Moss (0 - he failed to make a catch for the first time this season), T. Owens (12), D. Rosario (0), M. Stover (4 - his missed field goal cost the Ravens dearly), and the Ravens DST (14). Our weekly standings were #439 (Ravens) and #3935 (overall) - our worst rankings since the first week of the season. Overall for the five weeks we went from #2321 to #2499 and amongst Ravens fans from #256 to #271.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge: in the playbook challenge (you need a different set of three each week) we went with Tony Romo (183), Reggie Bush (93 - it didn't count his punt returns), and Eddie Royal (2x23) for 322 points and a total now of 1932. The highest score for the week was 746. Our poor score this week plummeted our ranking down to 14454. In the touchdown challenge we started a new streak with Reggie Bush.

Hometeam Challenge Week 4

In the Ravens hometown challenge we again didn't as well as the previous week, getting only 89 points. This time around there were mostly some good performances but nothing outstanding - mostly yardage but not touchdowns. We went with Jay Cutler at QB (16 pts), RBs Gore (13 pts) and Portis (13 pts), WRs Fitzgerald (12) and Moss (14), TE Cooley (2), K Stover (8), Def Ravens (11). Our weekly standings were #280 (Ravens) and #2628 (overall). So we did better against Ravens fans but worse overall. Overall for the three weeks we went from #2513 to #2321 and amongst Ravens fans from #283 to #256 - some slight gains.

Looking at the other NFL fantasy challenges - the playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge. In the playbook challenge we went with Drew Brees (362), Matt Forte (2x85), and DeSean Jackson (2x106) for a total of 744 points which brought our total to 1610. The high for the week was 916. We were not in the top 50. Overall we are now ranked 15412 up from 2403.
In the touchdown challenge, we had picked Marshawn Lynch and he didn't score. So, we need to start a new streak.

Hometeam Challenge Week 3

In the Ravens hometown challenge we didn't do as well last week, getting only 94 points. The top scorer for us were Philip Rivers (26), the ravens defense and special teams (29), then Clinton Portis and Santana Moss with 13 each. After that, we had gone with Brian Westbrook as our #1 running back, but he was quickly injured ad so we just got 1 point from him. With spare points we went with Mark Clayton, but he didn't get many catches and so contributed just one point. At tight end Chris Cooley got us 7 and Matt Stover just got us 4. Our weekly standings were #306 (Ravens) and #2343 (overall). So better overall than last week (#2598), but worse against Ravens fans who managed to get the average highest scores over the week. Overall for the three weeks we went from #3211 to #2513 and amongst Ravens fans from #341 to #283.

We also signed in on two other NFL fantasy challenges. The playbook challenge and the touchdown challenge. In the playbook challenge you score points for total yards, but rookies score double. Week 3 scored double overall as well. We had Joe Flacco as QB (127x2), Michael Turner as RB (104), and Santana Moss as WR (75) for a total of 433 x2 = 866 points. The top score for the week was 1772 points and our overall ranking is 24031 due to not doing this in the first two weeks. We'll have to think more for Week 4. In the touchdown challenge you need to pick someone you think will score a touchdown. Whoever has the longest streak of touchdowns over the season wins a prize. We started this week with Reggie Bush, who did score.

Hometeam Challenge Week 2

In the Ravens hometown challenge we did better last week even though we forgot to change our defense and kicker after it was announced that the Ravens game was postponed until later in the season. We ended up with 101 points from Tony Romo (26), Clinton Portis (21), LaDainian Tomlinson (3), Santana Moss (24), T. Owens (20) and Chris Cooley (7). Our weekly ranking was #2598 overall and #255 amongst Ravens fans. #20 had 135 points, so if we had a defense and kicker we might have been up there. For the season we went from #5566 after week 1 to #3211 and amongst Ravens from from #689 to #341.

Hometeam Challenge Week 1

Big 100.3 is not doing a football pool contest this year, so Alan and I together are just doing the Ravens hometown challenge. Alan is also doing an ESPN fantasy football. Week 1 we did quite poorly due to some bad picks. We just got 71 points. We ranked #689 vs. other Ravens fans and #5566 overall. This overall ranking was better than last year, probably due to so many people picking Tom Brady who was injured early. The top Ravens fan got 140 points and was ranked #5 overall. The top overall winner got 145 points. We had Drew Brees as QB getting us 29 points and the Ravens defense and special teams (18 points), but it was all downhill from there. LaDainian Tomlinson got us just 10 points and Clinton Portis got 8. Matt Stover had 5 points for us, but Todd Heap (-2), Wes Welker (3), and Steve Smith (0, we didn't find out he was suspended until it was too late to change) hurt us a lot.

Fantasy Football Week 21 - The Super Bowl

In the Big 100.3 football pool, Alan decided to pick the Giants. We thought that if we had gone with the Patriots and they won, then we would be one of many people guessing them and it wouldn't do much for us. Meanwhile, picking the Giants, we'd be among the minority. So, Alan picked the Giants to win 23-21. The national winner picked the actual score 17-14. The local winner picked the Giants to win 23-21. That was us. So, we are supposed to get a Vocelli Pizza Party for 10 certificate. There is no word yet of when that will come in. The 16 points from the victory replaced one our 8 point weeks. So our score went up to 173 points for the season, and our ranking went 109 last week to 83 locally. The local high score was 195 points while the national one was 210. The local survivor winner lasted through week 11, while the national winner lasted through week 17.

In the NFL Playoff Challenge, we got 54 points with Manning getting us 20, Maroney 10, Jacobs 4, Welker 10, Toomer 8, and Gostkowski 2. Who would have thought it would have been a defensive battle? Our weekly ranking was 30725 (up from last week's 49854) and our overall ranking of 290 points was good for 34985 up from 47151. The winner had 387 points. It was a fun free game and we'll probably do that again next year if it is available.
