Autumn blocks

I made a "summer" version last year like this and decided to try an "autumn" one.  Me and a friend had a craft/play date (hi Megan!!) where we crafted and the kids played.  We only got the blocks painted and paper cut out before we had to stop for nap times, so we both finished them up at home.  Here are mine:

I cut the wood blocks to random sizes (the tallest is 5.25") and the whole thing ends up being about 22" long.  And then I just sized the letters in Sure Cuts-A-Lot to fit the blocks.

Font used:  Pharmacy (found on dafont.com)

Autumn or Thanksgiving Stacker

I made another stacker.  This time, it is an autumn/Thanksgiving themed one.  I love how it turned out.

I cut the blocks at 4", 5.5", and 7"

Fonts:
Harvest:  Impact (can't remember where I found it)
Falling Leaves:  Waterfalls

2x4 Candy Corn

I saw something like this last year, but I couldn't remember where.  Then I saw this post at Someday Crafts for 2x4 candy corn and it was definitely something I wanted to make right away.  Problem was, I'm still a bit scared to use the miter saw since I almost snapped off my finger earlier this year, so I had to wait until my husband got home to cut them out.

I ended up making a bunch - some for the ladies I visit teach, my mom, sister, and mother-in-law.  And I had a craft/play date with a friend where we made some projects while the kids played.  I also ended up keeping a couple for myself.

It was easy to paint several during the kiddos nap times as well.  I always think it looks weird to put yellow on the bottom for candy corn- it seems like it should be orange, but I looked up pics of the candy online to double check.  But I think they look cute either way.

2x4 pumpkins

On The Creative Crate, I saw these pumpkins featured.  So I dug through our scrap wood from remodeling projects and made myself a set.

She didn't say the sizes she cut them at, but here were mine . . . 3.5", 4.5", and 7".  And the brown stems were random scrapsthat are about 1" tall.  My picture doesn't do them justice, so be sure to check out her pumpkins on the link above.

And does anyone know where to find green rafia?  All I can find is the tan, but I like it better with the green. . .

Fall Wreath

I made this wreath last year, but it was swiftly put into moving boxes without ever hanging up, so I finally pulled it out of it's box and get to enjoy it!!  I like the look of the square wreath - all the rest of my wreaths are circles, so this is a fun change.

This was a really easy and inexpensive wreath; here are the supplies:
  • wire coat hanger
  • fake leaves (from the dollar store - I think I used 3 or 4 packs)
  • wired ribbon
  • mini hole punch
First, bend your hanger into a square.  With the opening at the top, thread the hanger through the leaves.  The leaves were hard to just poke through with the hanger, so I punched a hole in the center with my mini hole punch.

I used wire cutters to cut off the loop (the top of the hanger) and bent the ends in toward the leaves to hide them.  Then attach the ribbon and hang!

Keep Calm and Carry On - knock offs

I saw a "Keep Calm and Gobble On" poster (which is free to print if you want one - here) and definately wanted one . . . but I'm out of colored ink in my printer, so I opted for the next best solution - cut it out on my Cricut and glue it to some brown paper!
I still like the original better at Craftily Ever After, but this works as an alternative.

I also did another version on a huge canvas (20"x30") for my sister-in-law to put in her classroom (she's a teacher and their mascot is the sailors)  She found a picture of one she liked and then I spray painted the canvas and cut the boat and letters with my Cricut.  I don't know where she found the original idea for this one, but I think it was on Etsy ...

I love these "keep calm and ..." posters.  They are everywhere in blogland and on etsy.  The possibilities are endless with different versions.

Autumn Wood Sign

I went over to vote for my favorite of the 10 Harvest Crafts creations at So You Think You're Crafty and liked several of them. I don't remember which one I ended up voting for, but #1 was something that caught my eye. I instantly thought "I have everything to make that already." The winning craft of the challenge will post a tutorial, but I didn't want to wait and wasn't sure if #1 would win this week's challenge. So I decided to try and make it on my own yesterday. The crafts are anonymous for voting purposes, so I don't know whose idea was to give them credit.

So here's my version of the "Count Your Blessings" board. My husband owns a cabinet business and saves some of the drawer fronts for me when he tears down people's old kitchens before installing their new ones. So before he takes it all to the dump, he brings me home some pieces from time to time. Here was the drawer front before I got my hands on it . . . ugly and in need of some TLC.
So, after a little paint, mod podge, paper, felt shapes and vinyl lettering, this board was transformed.

Paper Pumpkin

I found this idea through Two Peas in a Bucket . . .

She uses 16 paper strips that are 1"x6" . . . but for some reason, I couldn't get 16 of the paper strips to work. They kept overlapping eachother, and it was too crowded. So I took a few off and ended up using 12 strips for each pumpkin. Then wrapped it with wire and a ribbon to finish it off.
