A Very Proud Granddaughter

I am always proud of my grandparents, I think they're wonderful, but today I am even more proud of my Grandad - as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours he has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the General Division for his service to the community, and to the road transport and fertiliser industries. We've always known how fantastic and dedicated he is, and now the rest of Australia knows too!
Of course, I couldn't let this wonderful occasion pass without making him a special card. Karen's latest sketch provided just the inspiration.
The lovely Urban Garden and Urban Oasis DSPs work wonderfully for masculine cards. I think you can never go wrong with stripes for men.

I cut 1 1/8" squares of DSP and mounted them on Baja Breeze card before mounting that on Kiwi Kiss card. The Congratulations circle, and the diamond centre panel have both been attached with dimensionals.

I have also decided to take a leaf out of the very talented Kim's book and start decorating the inside of cards a bit more often. I think it's a lovely touch. If you haven't seen her work yet, pop on over to her blog.

Congratulations Grandad. We are all so very proud of you.

Red, Green and Yellow again...

Even though my 'Cute' page fit the bill for Kristina's latest colour challenge (THANK YOU for all your fabulous comments BTW :-) ) I still wanted to make what I had in my head - and I may just get it in on time. Mel's latest challenge is also to make a card with a one sheet wonder, so I thought I'd do both. I actually made 3 cards from the one piece of watercolour paper, so here they are:

I kept to Kristina's colours of Real Red, Green Galore, So Saffron, Basic Black and Whisper White for these. I stamped the solid impressions of Petals Prints onto watercolour paper and spritzed it with water (this was my second attempt!), then stamped the outline stamps in Staz On. I tried really hard to use as many scraps as I could (those little pieces of paper breed, I'm sure!). A liitle bit of black grosgrain ribbon finished the first card, and a bit of piercing the second. The greetings come from: A Little Birthday Cheer, Congrats (Sale A Bration set - contact me if you would like to know how to get this for free) and A Perfect Day rub on (retired).

As I mentioned, this was my second attempt at spritzing... Both Paul and his mate preferred the second one!! Here's what I did with my first:

I actually used this attempt to make a card for Nerine's latest layout challenge. As you can see, I was a bit more heavy handed with spritzing this time, but I think it looks ok. I also stamped the outline images in the coordinating colours. Red grosgrain ribbon and styled silver hodgpodge hardware finished this card, as well as some chunky glitter in the middle of the flowers. Kind comes from Baroque Motifs.

Thanks again for your great challenges! I had a fun time playing with these last night. Take your pick!

Oops!!

As I clicked the link to enter my Harry card for Mel's challenge the other day, the phrase 'current SU product only' caught my eye - oops. So I made another one to meet the requirements.

This little cutie is for the girl I job share with (Hi Catherine!!), at the moment. She has just been introduced to the wonderful hobby that is SU!, and she has also just been successful in procuring another, more senior, position (no, it wasn't job sharing with me that made her apply for another job :-) ). I'm always so happy for people when they are offered the opportunity to reach their dreams. Well Done Catherine!!!
Anyways, she has fallen in love with cute little owl stamps, and the sentiment from this little fellow in Celebrate Everyday is just perfect. I stamped the image and phrase in Chocolate Chip on Very Vanilla, and used the word window punch for the phrase. I used blender pens, Chocolate Chip and Creamy Caramel ink for the owl (and a touch of Yoyo Yellow for the beak) and after cutting him out, distressed him a little bit to make it look like he has 'feathers'. I created the tree with Close to Cocoa card which I wet and bent and scraped a bit with my nail (very technical!!) to make it look more like a tree. The leaves are from In the Spotlight - Old Olive stamped on Old Olive and Gable Green and randomly placed. All this was placed on Summer Picnic DSP, the phrase was attached with Aged Brass eyelets and all was attached to a Love Note. I'm giving this to Catherine in about 20 minutes... so we'll see what she thinks!!

Also, I have just finished something I have been working on for my sister, but am not sure if she reads this or not, so have to wait and see when I can post it......
