Have a fin-tastic day

At As You Like It Challenge this week, we're asking if you prefer Clean & Simple or Fussy.  I personally enjoy making both styles, although I find the clean and simple theme far more challenging because mine seem to feel 'unfinished'. I've tasked myself to make a clean and simple card that I'm happy with. This one's for a dad who's keen on fishing, so the masculine theme tends to lend itself more to clean and simple.

Kitty Boo

For my Polkadoodles Digi Choosday today I'm sharing my Father's Day card featuring Boo the kitty (which I've mirrored, so he's facing to the right) and some softly spotty papers from Winnie Sugar Sprinkles 2 collection. My image is watercoloured using Ranger Distress Ink Reinkers.

To keep the design quite simple, and as masculine as possible, I've matted each layer onto kraft coloured card, including the sentiment.  The lettering itself is die cut using a CC Designs alphabet on some scraps of the same papers.

Water-coloured on Langton Watercolour paper with Ranger Distress Ink Reinkers:

  • Fur: Antique Linen, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Gathered Twigs, Tattered Rose, Tea Dye
  • Grass: Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss
  • Sky: Tumbled Glass
  • Reds: Candied Apple, Barn Door, Aged Mahogany

Friendly Foxes

I've really fallen for these adorable foxes from MFT and ordered them the second I saw them.  I've water-coloured this guy for a Father's day card with an ultra-simple layout. The sentiment is from the same set and has been stamped onto two lines.

James Cheers

This is the Father's Day card that I made for my FIL featuring James the Bear.  I know it's cute, but hopefully still counts as sufficiently masculine!  I used a retired rubber stamp for my card but the image is now available as a digi stamp instead, so you can still get your paws on him.

Happy Father's Day

It's Father's day and I've got the first of the two cards I've made. Masculine cards are not my 'thing' but hopefully this is acceptable!  I've been playing with some of my Gerda Steiner rubber stamps this week, but this one is a digi.

Super Critters

This is my very first attempt at a pop-up box card, and I'm hooked.

This one did take me an age to construct but I really loved the end result.  I used my new Clearly Besotted Caped Cuties and matching dies (a lovely surprise gift from a very dear friend) and lots of dies (grass, fence, landscape borders, stars, stitched circles etc) and created a bespoke sentiment printed onto my backing paper.

I hope you like it because I'm already thinking about my second one!

Here's a bit of a close up. The flying bunny is on a little strip of acetate.

You can tell I loved how this one turned out by the multitude of pictures ... here's one from the front:

Masculine (Oh, noooooo!)

The theme today at Top Tip Tuesday is masculine.

Anyone who visits me often knows I'm worse than hopeless as masculine cards.  I love pink, cute, sparkle, ribbon and flowers too much.  However, it's Father's day this Sunday, so I gave myself a stern talking to and got crafting.

I'm not sure that I'm entirely happy with the finished card, but the image is just perfect for my dad, who's a bit of a DIY enthusiast.

I've used glossy accents on the spanner, and spectacles, added a couple of blue buttons (one spotty and one striped), sneaked in a bit of spotty ribbon (shhh, no one will notice!) and one of my own circular sentiments.

I like to ride my bicycle ...

Just in time for Father's day this Sunday, this is the first guy's card that I actually like, even with the lack of anything remotely pink, glittered or floral on it.  I really like the simple sketch and I've added a couple of buttons that I've had for well over a year, plus a fence die that I've not used for ages either.

I really must use my dies more often.    One of my favourite blogs to visit is the lovely Alison, and she uses so many beautiful dies on her cards, I pledge to use mine more every time I see her wonderful creations.  I'm starting off with a simple one with my little fence !!!

Is this manly enough? (And a freebie)

It's been an odd day, threatening to rain a bit, then sunny, then overcast.  I spent a bit of time planting some veggies out (sweetcorn and mange tout in the raised beds, and some tomato seedlings out in the greenhouse. And then gave them all a good drenching. The soil in my greenhouse was sooooo dry. I drenched it for ages, like 20 mins at least, and then found it was still powder dry less than a centimetre deep.  I'll have to give it another drenching tonight I think.  Paul wants to go to see some Jubilee fireworks on the seafront later tonight, so despite the fact that I'd like my veggies to be watered in, I hope the rain still holds off for the fireworks.  A nice downpour while I'm tucked up in bed later on would be just fine.

Once I'd worn myself out in the garden, I came in to rest at my craft desk.  I wanted to enter a challenge which required some text on the papers, and couldn't find the papers that I wanted, (I've had a tidy up and now can't find them even though I can picture them in my head exactly!).

Anyway, I decided to make a male themed card (not my favourite theme, since I'm worse than hopeless at male cards), but dusted off a Penny Black image that seemed to fit the bill.  Penny Black is what got me interested in stamping all those years ago, and this little hedgy really does bring back some memories.   I went to town with the colouring, using 4 different colouring mediums; Twinkling H2O Watercolours, Copics, Shimmer chalks and Sakura stardust gel pens.

The multitude of colouring tools made up for not having any flowers, glitter, or ribbon.  Ok, I did sneak a couple of bows in there on the twine, but that is still masculine, right?

The sentiment is a new one, and is a freebie available below if you'd like to nab it.

Father's Day

This week at 2 Sisters Challenge blog the theme is For a Guy.  It doesn't have to be for Father's day, but as it is June, I thought I would make a Father's day card.  We're sponsored this week by Robyn's Fetish.

My "Maiden Voyage" at Top Tip Tuesday

It's my first week on the design team at Top Tip Tuesday.  You could say it is my "maiden voyage" with the team, so what better image than a sailing theme, also ideal for Father's Day, which is this Sunday!

The new challenge today is a nice easy one to welcome the new team members without too much pressure, and it is Anything Goes.   We're sponsored by 2 fab companies, Robyn's Fetish and Stitchy Bear who have kindly supplied some digi images for the design team to showcase.

I've used a half fold card and made the image pop up from the base card so that it gives a bit of variety.  I always struggle with cards for men, because it is my natural instinct to add bows, flowers and other cute and pink things.  I seem to be at a loss to know what to put on a masculine card so decided to give it some shape.  I then added a few buttons, but managed to sneak in some stickles on the sea, as I wanted the sea to shimmer.  What do you think - still masculine !?!?

Hi-De-Hi, Campers !!!

There is a new challenge today at Stamp Fairy Challenge Blog, and the theme to play along with this week is "masculine".  I've decided to use Father's day as my theme, and as my dad loves camping, I thought it was a great excuse to colour up "Lenny Camping"; one of the recently released sets at Stamp Fairy.

I'm really getting keen on decorating the inside of my cards to complement the front cover, so I've used a second image from the same Lenny Camping set.  OK, so I admit that my dad now has upgraded his tent to a camper van, but he is still a boy scout at heart !!!

[update : before this post has even "gone to press", my hubby has now decided he wants this card for HIS father.  I guess it is appropriate because my father-in-law likes camping too (the "proper" (ie tent) variety of camping - none of this fancy camper-van camping!!!), so looks like I'm gonna have to make another card now for my own dad.  Doh!!!]

Little Puppy

This week at the Incy Wincy Challenge the theme is Father's Day / Masculine.  We're sponsored by our very own teamie, Nikki and her fab site Limited Runs.  I've used her image "Little Puppy" on my card, and even though he's a cutie, he is still perfect for a male themed card.  Please stop by her digi shop for some great images and fab inspiration.
