My Work - Kitchen Before & After!

Sorry its been a while since i've shared some of my work  - takes a while to get to photograph things!

This was a kitchen renovation i undertook last year - the brief was a classic kitchen with a touch of 'country style' & on a pretty tight budget. Of course, as with any kitchen, it needed to be functional & hard wearing as the clients love to cook & timeless, which is very important - you don't want your kitchen to go out of style a few years later! So lets have a look at the before & afters..........

For those of you who are new readers, i am an interior architect & went solo late last year.

I do everything from council submissions, floor plans, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery (custom wardrobes, bookshelves etc), lighting & electrical...everything really! I work on jobs of all sizes, from one wardrobe to a whole house & have some fantastic trades i work with. Before & After - Gorgeous Apartment Kitchen renovation!

A freind of mine who lives in Melbourne was kind enough to let me share the renovation she & her hubby recently did of their apartment kitchen! How totally gorgeous is it!

We all love a good before & after! Suze over at dwellers without decorators is always featuring some great examples! Spied these 2 the other day & had to share!

The Big Reveal! The Kitchen 'After'!

FINALLY! The long awaited finished product of the kitchen redesign & renovation i have been working on for clients Sue & Kim, fabulous cooks who have been suffering in their old kitchen for over 10 years!

We worked around the existing doors & windows but added more bench space by punching into the wall on the right & moving the cooktop, oven & coffee machine over there.

One of the couples gorgeous asian pieces we relocated to the kitchen!

A huge french door fridge replaced the small white fridge.

The random blue walls were painted in Dulux 'Peplum' quarter strength to match the cabinet work

A Caesarstone benchtop in 'Ginger' was put in with returns to the floor & an overhang to create a breakfast bar with classic stools

We did away with the small table & covered up the timber wall with a 40cm deep wall to wall pantry with recessed handles for a sleek look & an open central module perfect for the tv & some of their extensive cookbook collection! A new stainless steel microwave was located under the bench to leave the bench top free of clutter!

The original cork floor was ripped up & the floorboards stained to match the rest of the house

We used brushed stainless steel square handles to match the finish of the appliances & the style of the fridge handles. 

One of Kims gorgeous rugs he brought back from turkey really sets the room off! The rangehood is built into the wall cupboards above the cooktop & we used LED under cabinet lights which not only look great but mean you will never have to change a bulb (LED's last forever!)

Why i love what i do!

 Speaking of which, for those of you who didn't know, this IS what i do! Im a Sydney based interior architect & do everything from full house plans to bathrooms, kitchens,a laundry, or custom joinery & wardrobes! Speaking of 'before & afters' the splashbacks are FINALLY going onto my kitchen renovation today & i PROMISE i will share the after photos tomorrow (its been a long wait i know...grrrr to slow builders!)

My latest job - a tricky kitchen space for people who LOVE to cook!

I have been quite busy lately!  Another project ive taken on is the re-invention of my 'in laws' kitchen! This was a tricky project as the space was full of doors & windows to work around!

They LOVE to cook so after living with this not so great space for the last 15 years i was feeling the pressure to give them a fantastic kitchen! After hours & hours of refining our plans, choosing joinery & benchtop finishes, and finding the right appliances (hello enourmous freestanding oven & cooktop!) the build is nearly done!

Here are the before shots!

Minimal storage space (for people that have alot of kitchenware!), paired with the fact that the sink, cooktop and microwave are all taking up bench space resulted in the benchtop being cluttered and their being very little work space...

The doors you can see closet to the door to the balcony is the pantry & beside is the oven that isnt wide enough to fit a large baking tray into...Hello! Christmas ham as to fit in there!

And lets not forget the lovely blue wall that doesnt go with anything else in the house ;) Oh, and the cork floors (the rest of the house is beautiful polished timber)

A small 'breakfast table' up agaist the wall that is only used every so often & is usually the home of piles of mail, newsapers & various other bits & pieces!

Lovely exhaust fan in the middle of the glass above the door...goodbye!

Stay tuned for the 'afters'. The new joinery & caesar stone benchtops are in, the cork floor has been ripped up & the timber below polished. Just waiting on the cupboard doors, splashbacks & the appliances to go in!
