Two Little Birdies...

Picked my mail up on the way off to retreat this weekend, and there was Carla's package (GREAT timing!) so the first thing I did once I got set up at retreat was make these two cute blocks... love the quilt idea, adore the birdie print!!!
Hope to post back to you tomorrow, Carla!

Strawberry Fields

Phheeeww! I got my January block posted just under the wire. Michele, you are a smart gal to always take the first month, everyone wants desperately not to fall behind right off the bat! Here is your block (I only made one so you could use the fabric I'm sending back to finish off some of the others that need a little more): I did have this fabric in my stash. Even made a store sample quilt from it, but not all of these colorways. I LOVE the strawberries...
One thing I always do with block exchange or Bee blocks, is sign them, on the back, on a seam allowance. It's a good way for the recipient to keep track of who made which block as they come back in the mail (and who knows, maybe someday, after I'm long gone, someone will come across this and wonder about the life of a quilter from Iowa who made that block in 2011)...Hey, it could happen.

Our blog has a new look, I finally got the block made I was wanting to use as a header, and added a button at the left for you to grab for your blog. Sorry it took me so long to get it accomplished!

A fun house

Those were some of the best scraps ever.

I really wanted to add a chicken to the yard, but she just didn't fit.  12.5" sneaks up on you super fast in a block like this!

Seriously Wonky

Thought I better get Heather's done before the next batch of fabric arrives. Loved making this log cabin. Hope you like it Heather, it's seriously wonky!

I added that white and the solid brown - looking over the blocks so far, if you say I can add other stuff it will most likely include white. Fair warning.

Pinwheels, Stars and Wonky, Oh My

Here is the January block I made for Michelle at Calico Daisy.

As you know, she wanted a pinwheel inside a star, so I was happy to have the Feb. 2010 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting for reference. Such a cool idea for a block!

I was excited to finally try out my quick quarter tool (thanks to Sherri for the reminder that I had one). You just line up the slotted center of the tool with each corner of a square, draw two lines on either side of the tool, and sew along those lines, giving you a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Cut down the center, in between the two lines, and you get two triangle squares (see center pinwheel above).

Here is the February block I made for Heather.

As you know, Heather requested a wonky log cabin block, as wonky as we could get. I've never made a log cabin block or a wonky log cabin block, so I followed the directions from Quilt Dad's quilt-along posted last fall. I hope it is wonky enough for Heather's taste! I hope you will be able to trim this block, Heather, or add to it to match the size you need.

Both of these projects involved blocks or techniques I hadn't tried before, so they were great fun! -Terri
