I hardly need another animal-motif knicknack in my home. But this winking owl cookie jar from Anthropologie is so utterly quirky and charming that I simply cannot resist. My prediction is that he will be sitting on my kitchen counter in the very near future!

critters galore
Not that I need another animal knicknack... but this is kind of the ultimate, over-the-top critter extravaganza! A rabbit on top of a sheep on top of a deer on top of an elk, in white porcelain... and it's a candelabra too. Very, very fab!

Shopping for... Wallets

I've been on the hunt for a new wallet for a while now, ever since my Orla Kiely one bit the dust. For some reason, this is always a difficult purchase for me. It needs to be infinitely functional, with all the proper pockets and sections, but also chic as well. I still haven't bought a new one, but these are all tempting contenders...

Delightful Robots

I think these one-of-a-kind "fobots" by artist Amy Flynn (available here) are totally amazing! The use of found objects is so creative and inspiring! A perfectly unique - albeit pricey - holiday gift...

Birthday Suit!

Being that tomorrow is my birthday, I was thinking about what I might wear out to dinner with my sweetie if money were not an issue. Cassandra over at Coco + Kelley put together her dream b'day ensemble the other day, which inspired me to create my own!
I would go the glamorous 50s route, with a jade satin gathered waist dress (love the lace and tulle details) from Tracy Reese, worn with an embellished gold velvet clutch from Prada and classic black heels by Christian Louboutin. And a sparkling rhodium-plated panther bracelet by Pade Vavra would add just enough bling! Ahh, pretend shopping is so much fun...

Wish List, Part 2: Animal Bust Candles

I am totally obsessed with these animal bust candles from Anthropologie. Sir Rowf, Noble Steed and Mister Rabbit each come atop a resin pillar that can be reused once the original candle has melted. I think they are kooky and slightly macabre, perfect for my Halloween birthday which is tomorrow...

Wish Lists...

Don't we all keep a running wish list of things we want for our closets, coffee tables and jewelry boxes? I know I do! It's always changing, depending on whether I'm lucky enough to find something on sale or whether something new comes to tickle my fancy. In honor of my upcoming birthday, I'm sharing my current wish list - just some fun things that I have my eye on. So, what's on your wish list? Please share!

Craving... Accessories from Anthro

Ok, this one is a must have! Spied in the new arrivals section at Anthropologie, it was also featured over at Mrs. O today. As mentioned there, the necklace is by St. Erasmus, a UK-based jewelry line that until recently was only carried at Ikram in Chicago. A very similar version of this necklace was worn by Michelle Obama earlier this year! I find it interesting that Anthro doesn't promote the designer products it carries. The designer's name often isn't even mentioned in the description. Hmm... Well, no matter, I love this piece and am adding it to my ever growing wish list! Meanwhile, here are a few more pretties that caught my attention...

I'm always looking for awesome belts, which is tough because I find that they are few and far between. These rabbit and bear belts are though - a kind of rustic/whimsical version of the Christopher Ross belts favored by the fashionable lady here....

The floral choker and the robot pendant would each look great with a t-shirt or some other simple, casual top. Love, love, love both of them!

Getting the Look... Derek Lam 2010 Resort

My favorite wardrobe color combinations usually involve purple, turquoise, yellow and black/white prints, so the Resort 2010 collection from Derek Lam was pretty much made for me. I love the short dresses, bright belts, fitted jackets, bold jewelry, and of course the sexy, strappy heels! I'm excited to incorporate some new pieces to my summer closet that are inspired by these looks. Here are some cool items, from tres cheap to minor splurge, that fit the bill...

Kimchi Blue applique stretch belt ($28), Urban Outfitters; stripe boatneck dress ($222.60), BCBG Max Azria; Passion Frill sandal ($190), Topshop.com; Megarow necklace ($100), Topshop.com

Slub cotton dress ($69), Banana Republic; aqua leopard chiffon top ($19.80), Forever 21; Seddon cut-out sandal ($130), Topshop.com; distressed faux-leather satchel ($34.80), Forever 21

Aqua silk twist neck dress ($130), Banana Republic; Epic Stones necklace ($168), Anthropologie; ink spot silk top ($24.80), Forever 21; cotton smocked skirt ($69), Banana Republic

Colorful Gardening

Progress continues to be made in my patio area. After completing the tiered veggie garden, the focus has been on just making things pretty. My most recent mini project is this ladder plant stand. I like having something tall to create a bit of a focal point - and it's certainly nice having another spot to perch flower pots. The idea came from this post over at Bits & Pieces... as soon as I saw it the light bulb went on! Turns out we had an rickety, old ladder sitting in our basement just perfect for refurbishing. With a single, rough coat of leftover turquoise paint from my laundry room project to give it an appropriately weathered look, I had a fun, no-cost piece of garden decor!
Here are a view more shots from around the garden...

The duck planter was an 8th grade art project of my sweetie's... how cute is that?

The miniature metal wash bucket is a $2 Target find from the bargain bin at the front of the store. So perfect as a planter! Now I can't wait for the dahlias to really start blooming...

Here's my sneaky little Radius, posing as usual. And the table runner is only $3.99 at Ikea - you'll need two to make it across the table though...

A final addition to our upstairs deck - a graceful swan planter from the sale room at Anthro!
