Ollabelle news.

From Ollabelle's online newsletter:

Ollabelle will be appearing at FloydFest in Floyd VA this Saturday July 25. Looks like a great lineup, so if you are in the area you should check it out.Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control the amazing show scheduled for Baltimore on the 26th with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the Blind Boys of Alabama has been postponed. We're not sure how and when the show will happen again, but full refunds are available from the promoter.Glenn Patscha will be playing songs from his solo release Songs From The Jefferson Highway on July 30th at City Winery in NYC. Glenn is sharing the bill with Elysian Fields, so this should be a great show.Tickets are available here. And speaking of City Winery, Ollabelle will be playing a very special show there on October 30 with Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams. We'll be playing songs both seperately and together, so it should be a fantastic evening of music. Get a ticket now at City Winery's website.

Glenn Patscha (Ollabelle) to perform live in NYC July 30th.

Glenn Patscha of Ollabelle will join Elysian Fields in NYC for a live performance July 30th @ the City Winery.

Happy b'day to the late Big Joe Turner!

The blues singer from Kansas City would have turned 98 today. He passed away in '85. Big Joe influenced many great musicians, including Taj Mahal who recorded Big Joe's hit Corrine, Corrina, also more recently performed live by the very talented band Ollabelle w/ drummer / vocalist Tony Leone on lead. Big Joe was elected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in '87.
Roll 'em boy,
Gonna jump for joy,
Yeah man,
happy as a baby boy,
My baby just brought me a brand new choo-choo toy.

"Yep Roc Records" a great live download source.

You can nail down some great live downloads from artists, such as Ollabelle & John Doe & The Sadies.

Tony Leone (Ollebelle) performing "Holy Cow."

Ollebelle's drummer & co-lead singer Tony Leone recently performed w/ Levon Helm @ NJ's Wellmont Theater on Holy Cow. This is a great tune written by Allen Toussaint & recorded by The Band on Moondog Matinee back in the early'70s. Great tune. Leone hails from a Hartford, CT suburb, performs w/ Helm, Ollabelle & the Chris Bergson Band. He is an extremely cool talent.

Tonight's Ollabelle performance cancelled.

Just heard from Ollabelle's drummer (Tony Leone) that tonight's scheduled gig @ Newmarket, NH's Stone Church has been cancelled. This comes as no surprise as the Stone Church was recently saved from foreclosure a couple of wkds ago & is reorganizing. Bummer.

Boston fans can catch Ollabelle w/ Mavis Staples & Chris Smither tomorrow night in Cambridge, MA.

Martha Scanlan's album.

Just picked up Martha's '07 album The West Was Burning that was recorded @ Levon Helm's studio / barn & in Louisiana. We were fortunate enough to see her perform a couple of Saturday's ago when she filled in for Amy Helm w/ Ollabelle @ the 137th Tunbridge (VT) World's Fair (in 2nd pic wearing dark tanktop). She has a beautiful voice fit for the similar music genre as Levon & Ollabelle. Levon, Amy & Glenn Patscha all participated in the recording of her album.

Ollabelle's bassist / dobro / vocalist Byron Isaacs.

Houston, TX native (now NYC) Byron Isaacs is another one of Ollabelle's multitalented musicians - bass, dobro & co-vocalist. Married & father of two, he is another band member that we have connected with, such as we have w/ Glen. We also recently found out he wrote Calvary on Levon Helm's Grammy winning Dirt Farmer album (also played bass on the album). Extremely gratious gentleman.
