Thankful Coffee Card

There is something so fun about making coffee cards to me! I think it's because it gives me a chance to use some of my older things with my newer supplies and you just can't go wrong with a coffee cup. Am I right??

I cut Tim Holtz Fresh Brewed Bigz cup and sleeve from Prima's Amber Moon paper pad and the lid from a scrap. "Thanks" is printed on the paper and "a latte' (old Stampin' Up set) was stamped in Ground Espresso Archival and cut out with Gift Tags Thinlits. I attached it with a heavy thread to look like it's a tea bag label.

The leaves are Skeleton Leaves Thinlits die cuts, and they are blended with Old Paper and Vintage Photo inks. The little pumpkins are Tim Holtz old Mini Blueprints Happy Halloween stamps. The back paper and the pumpkins are colored with Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide and stamped with Perfect Plaids in Black Soot ink. The wood patterned paper is Tim's Halloween paper stash from last year. I blended it with Black Soot and Vintage Photo ink and splattered with watery Picket Fence paint.

Memories of Home for Frilly and Funkie

Hello friends! Today the Funkie side of the Frilly and Funkie design team will inspire you with their projects for the current challenge, Home, Sweet Home. I am hosting this challenge and here's the scoop:

Whether your house is grand or modest, neat or messy, there's no place like home. Houses get bought and sold, but home stays with you forever. For this challenge, I would like to see how you interpret what home means to you on your vintage or shabby chic project.

As always, the Design Team will choose their top four picks, and the winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie. Home for me, means quite a few things, but at the base of it all, is family. These are the people I can feel totally comfortable with, and know will love me no matte what. I've lived in quite a few houses in my lifetime--13 houses and apartments in 3 states to be exact. Only a handful of them actually felt like home, so I decided to make a Tim Holtz Tiny House for each of the 4 that outline the stages of my 'home life'.

The first abode depicts the farmhouse I grew up in with my 5 brothers and sisters. While I made  farmhouse siding and a rusted tin roof for this first Tiny House, I really don't remember much about the outside of our house. It's our family inside that matters, and back before cable TV, cell phones and laptops, we spent our time playing and working along side each other day in and day out.

I used an Ideaology Snippets Ephemera 7 cent stamp, because it says US 7. That's what we were: 6 kids and a Dad. I couldn't find an appropriate Paper Doll to represent my Dad (and I don't have a single picture of him) so our dog, Sparky, who was my Dad's sidekick, is standing in for him. Each of the Paper Doll kids was colored with Distress crayons.

 The shiplap siding is watercolor paper embossed with Lumber 3D Texture Fade, smeared with Wendy Vecchi's crackle paste and cut into strips. I highlighted the edges and cracks with Walnut Stain and Hickory Smoke Distress Crayons and glued the strips over a base I cut from an old Tim Holtz Paper Stash cover.

The 'tin roof' is made with layers of Black Soot Distress Paint, heat embossing with Seth Apter's Eclipse Baked Velvet and Chunky Rust, followed by Weathered Wood paint.

'Family' and 'Home' are Big Talk stickers also embossed with the Lumber folder and treated the same as the siding. The Ideaology Milk Cap had Crazing applied to it and smeared with crayon.

'Collector of memories' is a Remnant Rub, and the leaves represent one of my favorite memories of home...the entire family raking big piles of leaves from the three sugar maples out front and then us kids spending the day jumping in them. At the end of the day, my Dad  made them into one huge bonfire. The leaves are Skeleton Leaves Thinlits and the older Fall Foliage Thinlits cut from various colored scraps from my scrap bin.

There were times in my life that my family was geographically far from me, so this next house depicts me living the single life. This is when home meant a place of comfort and safety and a place for me to learn to grow as an individual.

 My second home I bought when I was single  had wood siding, so I constructed this one from Distress Woodgrain Cardstock. I colored this with Antique Linen paint, Bundled Sage and Tumbled Glass Distress stain and Walnut Stain crayon. The roof is cut from a fiber paper from my stash, inked with more Walnut Stain and patted with Weathered Wood paint.

It's at this stage in my life that I fell in love with gardening, so I tucked some Ideaology Botanical Layers behind my Paper Doll. I also tucked in a ticket from the Keepsakes Ephemera Pack and Adorned Thinlits die cuts heat embossed with White Cloud Baked Velvet.

 My third house depicts a time when I met my future husband, married and started our life together in our first combined home. I cut this house from Worn Wallpaper,  because I remember there was lot's of old wall paper that needed to be removed from our fixer upper. My husband and I worked as a team and made that house our home, working nights and weekends on remodeling it. Home meant love and partnership (and a lot of work!).

 I sanded the Worn Wallpaper and added back some color with Distress Oxide Spray and blended with Distress ink. The roof is cut from corrugated card from my stash and scribbled with Distress crayon.

The Baseboard Doll couple couldn't be more perfect!  I colored the couple with Distress crayons. The hearts are actually parts of a flower from the Funky Floral #2 Thinlits. I added color with Wendy Vecchi Blendable ink--Poppy and heat embossed with clear powder. The clock is from the Keepsakes pack and the Remnant Rub #2 is on a Snippet. 'You and me' is a Clippings Sticker.

I finalize my journey at the home we currently live in. It's far from perfect, and I've never really fallen in love with it. This house requires constant repairs, being older. Our home is special though, because it's where my husband and I raised our kids, and it's in a wonderful neighborhood that we feel so at home in. Home is, once again, where my family is.

This Tiny House is  inspired by Anna Karin's beautiful Tiny House and is cut from another old Tim Holtz Paper Stash cover. I used a stone die cut from the Mixed Media #4 Thinlits set and loosely followed Anna Karin's tutorial, substituting Pumice Stone Distress Oxide Spray for her paint. Although my crackle did not turn out at all like I would have pictured, I'm pleased with the stone work nevertheless.  It's the perfect setting for the Paper Doll family from the Christmas pack. Another couple of ephemera from the Keepsakes pack, Funky Floral #3 die cut greenery and a Clippings sticker tell the story.

I left the back unadorned, because I am loving how the stones look here.  I used crackle paste through a Tim Holtz mini stencil from set #28.  I colored with Distress Oxide Sprays. crayons and sealed with Crazing. I highlighted the cracks by smearing with crayon.

I used one of Tim Holtz Fragments stamps and Hickory Smoke Archival ink and text from the Dapper stamp set with Black Soot Archival. I stamped the phrase on a scrap of plain collage paper before sticking down with Collage Medium Matte.

Tag Friday A Vintage Journey

Hello! It's the last Thursday of the month here in the USA, and that means it's Tag Friday over at A Vintage Journey! Be sure to visit to see all the amazing tags the rest of the Creative Guides have created.  

One of my favorite newer crafty goodies is Tim Holtz Botanical 3D Texture Fade. I've combined it with Tim's Skeleton Leaves, some older leaf die cuts and flowers from my stash for this super quick tag.  Below are some close ups of that beautiful texture created with the embossing folder.

 Some greens are embossed in gold, although it's hard to tell on this gloomy day. Halloween Collage Paper adds some late fall interest to the background.

 And how about that delicious crackle? A fun way to end  the Autumn crafting. Now I can move onto Christmas!

Hello! I have an all purpose card to share today. I made this for a good friend who generously gave of her time and friendship when I needed it most. It's a simple card, but filled with lots of love.

I used Tim Holtz Ornate Trims stamps to decorate the back panel. I heat embossed the trim using Pumice Stone Distress ink, followed by embossing ink and Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder. I used this same powder around the edges of the blue panel, the sentiment panel and on the Friendship Words, Script die cut. It's such an easy way to add elegance to a simple card.

Of course, I used my favorite 3D Texture Fade, Botanical to provide a stunning backdrop to the simple leaf cluster. Distress Mixed Media Heavystock was cut to size and second generation stamped with an older Tim Holtz stamp Florals from the Dots and Florals set. I inked the stamp with Bundled Sage Distress Oxide, stamped on another panel, spritzed again and stamped again on this panel. I embossed it with the 3D folder, then brayered on some light paint. When dry, I swiped the panel directly and lightly with Evergreen Bough ink and spritzed with water to allow the ink to cover the surface, mingling with the Bundled Sage and resisted by the paint. I love how the stamping, although not at all visible adds depth to the color.

I die cut the leaf from water color paper using Tim's Skeleton Leaves set. I poked just a few of the inserts out leaving most of them in for a different look. Coating the back of the die cut with Distress Collage medium keeps them in place. I blended the leaf, back panel and sentiment panel with Pumice Stone ink. A spritz of water on the back panel instantly ages it. The string was also colored with Pumice Stone ink for a vintage vibe. An Ideaology Clippings sticker stands in for part of my sentiment. Everything was adhered with Distress Collage Medium Matte.

Happy October!

Well friends, we are well more than half way through the month already! Is October the 'fastest' month of the year, or is it just me?

My sister has a bad case of the shingles, and I thought I would send her a card to cheer up her days. She's a retired 3rd grade teacher, but she still subs every chance she gets. She is truly a teacher who loves to teach, and her students are 'her' kids. She's not at all into Halloween, but she wants kids to be kids, so costumes were acceptable in her classroom. Having the shingles, she is quarantined from the little ones, and will miss the festivities as a substitute this year. I chose this group of what I would believe to be school children dressed for Halloween from Tim Holtz Halloween Paper Dolls as a focal image for her card.

I love that the kiddos have fun costumes; no scary (just sweet) witches, zombies, skulls or walking dead in this group. My sister will appreciate that.

I used Stitched Ovals dies to cut black card and some of Tim's older Region's Beyond paper stash to frame the photo. I love how well Tim's papers work together from year to year, and this one pairs nicely with the plaid from this year's Halloween Paper Stash. I cut the scalloped edge that comes with the ovals for the kids to sit on. A flash card (a nod to my sister's teaching) from the Halloween ephemera pack works perfectly as a fall greeting along with 'Happy' from Tim's Tiny Text Remnant Rubs. I colored the card with Distress Oxide inks: Hickory Smoke, Frayed Burlap and Ripe Persimmon. I edged with Ground Espresso ink.

Some strings that pulled out of a piece of Mummy Cloth I used for my Bone Collector Vignette dyed in Hickory Smoke oxide, some Nature's Wonder stamped and water colored leaves I had sitting on my desk, and a couple of Skeleton Leaves add some autumn color. Everything is adhered with Distress Collage Medium Matte.

 I stamped a black panel with Ornate from Tim's Ornate and Lace set in Black Soot Distress ink and clear embossed. I scribbled over the embossing with Hickory Smoke crayon, then adhered the focal panel to it this panel.

I wanted to write my sister a nice long encouraging letter, so instead of a standard card,  I made a pocket on the reverse to tuck the letter in.  I chose design papers from Regions Beyond and Halloween Paper Stashes and added splashes of Hickory Smoke and Ground Espresso oxides to them and edged in ink. I adhered the top panel completely, punched the bottom panel with a circle punch and adhered only on three sides to form a pocket.

I hope this project reminds you that your Tim Holtz Halloween products can be used for more than just Halloween. Happy crafting!
