Trend Spotting in Las Vegas

We had a fun, long-weekend getaway to Las Vegas.  We celebrated my husband's birthday, went to see Le Reve (highly recommend this show), people watched, gambled a tiny bit, relaxed, and of course, ate way too much!

I look a little crazy-eyed in this pic.  I think I was just trying to get the hubs to hurry up and take the pic so I could get back to my sushi!

I was struck by how many trends that are popular in blogland were also found throughout our hotel, the Wynn Encore.  I wonder how often they have to change the decor to stay on trend???

My sister-in-law Carol used to do design for hotels in Vegas.  She did a lot of carpet design and she has mentioned that the casinos change their carpeting every few months due to wear.  I need to ask her about the other decor.

I thought it would be fun to share some of the trends I spotted in the hotel that I see all over my own home, your blogs and Pinterest.

Sunburst Mirrors - these look surprisingly identical to my $35 Home Depot mirror.

Fu Dogs - there were lots of other chinoiserie touches too.

Nailhead trim

This was the hallway in our room.  Isn't the berry colored ceiling awesome?!?!?

Gold and Brass Accents

Horizontal Stripe Curtains

Contrast piping also seems popular now.

High Gloss Antlers  - it's a little hard to see, but the hallways were lined with these glossy, white antler sconces.

Grass cloth and houndstooth - this wallpaper in our room was grass cloth woven into a houndstooth pattern.  The other walls were a neutral grass cloth.

Peacocks - this pair of crystal peacocks were pretty amazing.

Just for fun - here's part of our bathroom.

Las Vegas is a place where everything seems over the top to me...the people, the decor, the casinos, the food.  It's a fun place to getaway for a few days, especially since it's in driving distance of where we live.  It's exciting to play dress-up and live a much more glamourous life than my everyday existence.  But, being away from home made me realize how much I really enjoy being home and being with my family.  Home is truly where my heart is!

Book Recommendations....and Las Vegas?!?!?!?

I've read a string of good books recently and the latest was no exception.

The blurb on the cover says that this book will "delight fans of Downton Abbey."  Since I've been in Downton Abbey doldrums waiting for the next series to start sometime next year, I picked up this book.

It featured the same sort of upstairs/downstairs drama in an English manor house that's in Downton.  The main difference is that The House at Tyneford takes place during WWII, while Downton's most recent season was during WWI.

Elise Landau is an Austrian Jew whose parents send her to work in England on a domestic servant visa in the days prior to WWII.  Elise is a from a high-brow Viennese family so she doesn't fit in with the servants with whom she works at Tyneford, nor does she mingle with the upper-class family and their guests.  The story follows Elise through the war.

I'm in need of another good book.  Big K and I are heading to Las Vegas sans kids later this week.

This is only our second trip without the kids.  I'm really excited, but I've also been a nervous wreck.  Mary's preschool teacher and her college-age daughter are staying with the kids, so everything should be fine, but I'm such a worrier that I even considered cancelling the trip last week.

We're staying at the Wynn and we've stayed there once before.  The decor can only be described as totally over-the-top luxury.  I'll be sure to take more photos while I'm there, but this gives you an idea of what it's like.

The flowers and floor mosaics are gorgeous.

It's just a teeny-tiny bit different than my cluttered, dog-fur covered bedroom at home.

I don't know how I'm going to put on my bathing suit after spending time at this buffet.

Speaking of bathing suits, I intend to spend most of my time lounging by the pool with a good book.  So if you have a "must read," let me know!

We're also going to see this show, called La Reve.  It reminds me of "O" by Cirque du Soleil, which was amazing.

If I'm feeling lucky, I might even play a game of black jack!

Let me know if you have any other Vegas things that we should see, do, or eat!
