DC - What's That?

What's that?
Often asked of myself when painting away...
...and sometimes unanswered for months.
'Ladder to the Full Moon' - acrylic on paper, about 8"x8"
My talented friend Carole is the host of this Drawing Challenge.  Take a look at her interesting place for links to lots more artists grappling with 'what's that'.

(inspired by the full July moon sailing over Seattle this weekend)

Maria - DC

The lovely and talented Patrice brought us an interesting drawing challenge this past week: Maria.  Motherhood and moonlight were a natural turn of thought as I have been spending time with both my mother and my daughter under the full moon here in beautiful Denver.

Last Night, the Moon

From my chair last night, I watched the moon sinking toward the bosom of Kupreanof.  She grew more golden as she  glided down.

These long summer evenings are so lovely.  I stay awake too late, entranced by the light, the wonderful scent of the forest and beach, the birds singing the day goodnight... and drawing.

Chinese Lanterns #1

Next Thursday I will be teaching a little painting workshop for 8-years-and-up people at our nice library as part of their summer Art Camp program.  We will be decorating Chinese Lanterns, nylon ones from Dharma, with acrylic paints.  I spent part of my day starting mine so I had an example to show the group.  Very FUN!  My theme is the Moon's face in four seasons.

This is summer.

Autumn

 Winter Moon

These are 10" diameter lanterns.  It seems to work best to not draw on the lantern blank with pencil but just plunge in with the paint brush.  I think I will encourage the kids to do some preliminary sketching on paper to develop a design prior to working on their lanterns.

I saved the Spring moon to demonstrate in class.
Look for a post of the workshop end of next week, and enjoy your Saturday!

On Foot in the Snow

This eagle landed in a nearby tree to watch Flossy run around on the beach, kept clean of snow by the tide.
 The half-moon floating at 3pm.
Seattle Girl is visiting this week - we got locked out of my car and had a great walk while we waited for the Sailor to rescue us.

Summer Morning, Sunny Days

The moon was setting and reflecting in the high tide in front of my house when I was getting ready to go to the swimming pool at 5:30 this morning; I went out on the deck in my swimming suit and sweater to snag a photo.

On Sunday Devil's Club caught my eye as we hiked around the Three Lakes trail.

Flossy stood guard while I picked berries.
