Color Inspiration #169

Happy April everyone! It's the first Thursday of the month, and that means I get to share another Color Inspiration Challenge with you!

This month I was inspired by an Easter card that my mom made for the grandsons. It's so adorable!!! I'll ask her I can share it with everyone on my blog after Easter is over.

This month's colors are: Island Indigo, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron and Calypso Coral.

This month I thought I would make a cute 3D project using the new Purse Bigz die from the Summer Smooches suite. I kept mine pretty simple as I wanted the colors to be the star of the project. But, as I've been blog hopping I've seen purses that have been made with dsp, embossed cardstock, faux alligator and so much more!!!! I love, love, love this die!!!

My base purse is made with Island Indigo cardstock. Two pieces of Sticky Strip is all that's needed to construct this baby!

I also just picked up the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch. I just change the switch on this punch to punch out different portions of the flower. When you layer them together, it makes the perfect decoration to embellish my purse. The center of the flower is a circle cut using my Owl Punch and some of that fabulous Silver Glimmer Paper.

I also added some pen stitching with my Island Indigo marker to add a little whimsy to my project!

Are you ready to play with this new color combo? I hope so!!!!! If you make something, I hope you'll share it with us here at the Stamping 411. I've included a Linky Tool at the bottom of this post so you can do just that! Just copy your project's web address into the tool, and it will create thumbnail picture of your project. Easy peasy!!!

Project Recipe

paper: Island Indigo, Calypso Coral, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron
accessories: Purse Bigz L die, Island Indigo Marker, Owl punch, Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch, Silver Glimmer Paper, dimensionals

Seriously EASY card box for gift giving

Good Morning Friends!

It's time for another anything goes post from your operators at stamping411.

This week, I was hoping to finally keep my promise to do a tutorial for this cute box that comes together in minutes. There are literally 4 score marks and 4 cuts, then you stick it together! Really, that's it!

I'll be whipping up a few more of these next week, as I'm planning to give those "card worthy" relatives a stack of cards for their pantries. This box is made from some new items, some existing items, and some sneak peeks, so put your spectacles on and take a peek at this!

Stamps: 123779 You are Loved Stamp set (will be going away forever on January 3rd ~ so hit up your demo to get your set before they are gone...)
Ink: Riding hood red, basic gray, blushing bride and pear pizazz (just a few of the colors in the new DSP coming out)
Paper: whisper white, riding hood red and Twitterpated Designer series paper (which will be out on January 4th! again, ask your demo!).
Accessories: Tombo multipurpose adhesive, 3 dimensionals to pop up the heart, riding hood red pleated satin ribbon (gasp!), vintage brads, 1 1/6" circle punch, the NEW heart framelit die!, and (of course) the Simply Scored Scoring tool with place markers!

and away we go... First, I set up my score tool for marks at 1 1/4" 4 1/2" and 6 1/2"

Take a piece of 8 1/2" x 11", cardstock, on the 8 1/2" side, score at 1 1/4" (both sides)
Note** notice how I'm holding the stylus? I have my thumb on top and I'm pulling towards me. After scoring 170 wedding invitations for my cousin (in two places), I realized when I hold my stylus this way, it doesn't slip out of the groove on me.

Then flip your card stock 90 degrees and score at 4 1/2" and 6 1/2".
Now, using your paper snips, cut in 1 1/4" inches where you see black on the template below.Next, fold on all lines VERY well! If you like, you can use a bone folder to get a nice crisp edge.Apply some tombo multipurpose adhesive to one side of the flap that's folded up, and attach this side of the box. I like to do this on both sides, so that when I put the box together, my flaps match. Some notes about the tombo glue (I call it green glue because it comes in a green tube). The picture above shows a little too much. you can use sticky strip, but if you make a mistake you're either stuck, or using a heat gun to try and reposition. The idea of the green glue is to use a TINY amount. I use it for everything except ribbon and designer paper. If you try it, and have it all over your hands, you're probably using too much!

Some of my customers say that I scratch it on the paper or make a dotted line. Below is a better amount to use.

Now that we have one side stuck to the bottom flap (left and right), add a thin line of green glue down the spine of your box and seal up the other two sides.
Oh looky! I'm crooked! Well, the "green glue" lets you reposition for a second.. Love that!!

So here's the raw box. Now, I like to use ribbon for the handles (about 12"), you could cut a strip of paper 1" and use that, whatever works for you!

So, now I'd like to decorate my box. Pick out a coordinating designer Paper (i used twittpated).
Cut this to 4 1/2" x 3". if you're using 2 sheets of designer paper, you'll yield enough for 10 boxes, front and back!

I cut a sheet of whisper white down to 4 1/2" and cut two strips from the ribbon border punch. then I just take the punched piece and cut it in half.
Flip your dsp over, and add a thin line of green glue. Then lay the border on top. Try and use the design to get your sides even on each side.Attach these to the front of the box and decorate to taste! Here's the finished box, and the original box I did when the score tool came out!

Thanks for visiting today and for checking out the tutorial! If you'd like to make one and post it somewhere online, I added a linky so we can see what you did with this tutorial!

Rubbah hugs,
Selene Kempton

******************************************************************

Step 1
Cut Basic Black cardstock to 6x12 and two strips of 1 1/4 x 12.

Step 2
Use Big Shot to cut Fancy Favor Box and two of the scallop trims from the Tasteful Trim Die

Step 3
Cut scallop trim into 4 scallop lengths for a total of 5.  Sponge scallop edge with White Craft Ink.

Step 4
Starting at bottom, adhere scallop strips to front of back.  They will overlap the sides.

Step 5
Trim off the excess scallops from the side of Fancy Favor Box and adhere Fancy Favor box together with Sticky Strip.

Step 6
Squeeze top together and pierce two holes through all layers.  Place two Black Mini Brads to hold box closed.

Step 7
Cut 3 1/4 square of Basic Black cardstock, score in half diagonally.  Cut off one tip and add Daffodil Delight 1” square for beak.   (White owl has black beak.)

Step 8
Punch 1 3/4 Basic Black, 1 3/8 Daffodil Delight and 3/4 Basic Black for layers of eyes.  (White owl is 1 3/4 Daffodil Delight and 1 3/8 Basic Black)

Step 9
Place eyes on back of 3 1/4 square.  Add Sticky Strip on back of beak.  Adhere square to front of Fancy Favor Box.

Step 10
Flap is only adhered on the front.  Back lifts up so that Mini Brads can be opened to get into Fancy Favor Box.

Step 11
Adhere only the back tip with temporary adhesive so it lays flat.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Owl Boxes and make some of your own!  Leave me a comment letting me know if you do!

Thrifty 3D Wednesday – Bitty Shopping Bag

I saw a little Bitty Shopping bag on a blog somewhere a while back, but it didn’t have any directions other than it was made with the Bitty Box XL Die. Well, I’m always looking for new ways to use my XL Dies…and using the Bitty Box again for Thrifty 3D Wednesday was just too good to pass up! It is a quick and easy project that would be DARLING at a shower or ladies luncheon to sit at their place setting!

Isn’t it SOOOOO cute? It really is tiny…I have a Ghirardelli Chocolate inside, and it could probably hold two of them easily with the tissue paper like I have it displayed. So…I thought you’d like to know how to make one for yourself!

Supplies:

Stamps: Touch of Kindness, Tiny Tags

Inks: Basic Black, Melon Mambo

Cardstock: Textured Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Melon Mambo

Accessories: Bitty Box XL Die, Certainly Celery Taffeta Ribbon, Scallop Circle Punch, 1 1/4 Circle Punch, Jewelry Tag Punch, Piercing Tool, White Bakers Twine, Sticky Strip

Non SU: Colored Tissue Paper, Chocolate

***********************************

Step 1

Cut Textured Pumpkin Pie cardstock with Bitty Box Die.

Step 2

Cut off tabs on both ends.

Step 3

Add Sticky Strip to both side tabs.

Step 4

Fold short tabs inside, then long sides fold in and box “lid” forms the other side of the bag.

Step 5

Pierce holes in each side large enough for Bakers Twine to make shopping bag handles. Tip: This is how I make sure both sides are even…I pierce thru both sides at the same time.

Step 6

Feed Bakers Twine thru holes and tie knots inside. Each side has a loop handle.

Step 7

Decorate as desired. I used the stamp set Touch of Kindness and stamped the scallop circle in Melon Mambo Classic Ink, punched with the Scallop Circle. I stamped the greeting with Basic Black on Melon Mambo, then punched with the 1 1/4 Circle Punch. I placed it on top of the scallop circle with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped Thanks so much from Tiny Tags in Basic Black on Whisper White, then punched with the Jewelry Tag and tucked it between the scallop circle and the front circle. I wrapped the Certainly Celery Taffeta Ribbon around and tied a bow in the front.

I stuffed the shopping bag with Bright Pink Tissue paper. Inside is a Ghirardelli Chocolate…it would easily hold 2!

Hope you enjoy this little Thrifty 3D Wednesday project! Leave me a comment, I love to hear when you make one yourself! It really is an easy M&T!

Thrifty 3D Wednesday - Fun Flower Bookmarks

Welcome to this month's Thrifty 3D Wednesday! These Fun Flower bookmarks are so pretty and easy to make! Wouldn't a book lover want one of these to dress up their book? Or, your customer to hold her spot in the Stampin' Up! catalog?

The Stampin' Up! SAMs (Service Account Managers) gave those of us who have a SAM one of these for attending Leadership this year. I was THRILLED to get mine! Of course, I had to make a few when I got home and my Stamp Clubs made them last month! They are made with the Fun Flower Large Bigz Die.

Would you like to make one yourself? OK! Let's go!

Supplies:

  • 1/2 sheet cardstock (I used Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight)

  • Coordinating Classic Ink (Rose Red and Melon Mambo)

  • Fun Flowers Bigz Large Die

  • Designer Buttons

  • Stampin' Dimensionals

  • Mini Glue Dots

  • Sponge Daubers

  • Linen Thread and Key Trinket (Optional)

  • Glimmer Brad (Optional)

  • Small greeting for front

Step 1. Cut blossoms and circle from Fun Flowers Large Bigz Die from cardstock of choice. I used Daffodil Delight.

Step 2. Spritz cardstock heavily with water and crumble up into individual balls.

Step 3. Unfold and use a Sponge Dauber to add ink along edges...it is best if cardstock is still wet so the ink runs naturally. I used Melon Mambo.

Step 4. Form into flower shape and let dry completely. (If you are impatient like me, use the heat gun!) Apply Stampin' Dimensionals to backs of two smaller flowers.

Step 5. Layer each blossom on top of the other.

Step 6. Apply one Stampin' Dimensional to back of largest flower and adhere one end of ribbon to Stampin' Dimensional.

Step 7. Cover back of ribbon with circle cut from Fun Flowers Die.

Step 8. Decorate front. For this one I used a Gold Glimmer Brad in the center of the Early Espresso Designer Big Button (Sweet Stitches) and added the word Fabulous from Stampin' Up!'s Fabulous Phrases stamp set in Early Espresso Classic Ink on Whisper White and used a Mini Glue Dot to attach to the button.

Step 9. Slip ribbon thru book to mark the page and have flower resting on top of book!

NOTE: The pink one above was done with Melon Mambo cardstock with Rose Red sponging on the edges. I used Linen thread and tied on the Key trinket, then tied a bow. I stamped "for you" from Clearly for You in Early Espresso Classic Ink, along with the floral print stamped off in Melon Mambo on the background.

That's it! Leave a comment and let me know what you think. I'd love to see if you make one, too! Hope you enjoyed this month's Thrifty 3D Wednesday post from Stamping 411!
