Tonight in L.A. (February 9, 2013)

On this glorious Saturday - there is plenty of music to be excited about.  The night before the Grammy's brings in a lot of top notch artists to Los Angeles and some intimate performances are definitely on the menu as B.o.B. and Trinidad James are set to hit House of Blues, Santigold is doing the same, Gary Clark Jr. ignites The Roxy late night and Dr. John boogaloos the Fonda Theatre.

A British celebration goes down at Hollywood Palladium with Ed Sheeran and Rizzle Kicks getting some of the limelight.  Another notable UK import - Ellie Goulding - gets fanfare at The Wiltern with support from St. Lucia.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue return to El Rey Theatre for a second night with help again from The Stone Foxes.  Those Foxes will be stationed at The Roxy earlier in the day to shoot some videos with Jam In The Van, as will Ryan Bingham and Kosha Dillz.  Swing by the Sunset Strip venue's parking lot to catch some of the rocking action in the day time.

To get a little ratchet on a Saturday you could go to Bad Boy Bill at Avalon, twerk with Queen Diva Big Freedia at The Echoplex along with Juiceboxx and others or throw bass around like a clown with Excision and Paper DIamond at Club Nokia.

Other notables include "Dre-Day" with Fartbarf at El Cid, Zak Waters and Ghost Beach at The Central SAPC and Kurupt at Industry Theater.  A full list of shows is below.

Tonight in L.A. (October 20, 2012)

Its not just any Saturday night in Los Angeles this week.  While there are stars on the regular, there aren't always international stars with music videos that have garnered over a HALF BILLION views.  If you've been living under a proverbial rock for most of 2012 or you are over the age of 70 - you may not have heard Gangnam Style - otherwise you probably are familiar with the PSY phenomenon.  No joke - my three year old nephew and year old niece are even hip to it.

So - if you want to indulge in the hype - he is playing at House of Blues - Sunset Strip along with Brit star vocalist Ellie Goulding and Jay-Z's latest protege - Rita Ora.  A solid line-up for fans of pop stars and their music.

For those with more eclectic tastes - I recommend the Peaches DJ Extravaganza at Fonda Theatre with support from Big Freedia.  The artists are gaymous, the dance floor will be raging and you'll be encouraged to, amongst other things, get ass everywhere and fuck the pain away.  Sounds sexual, aggressive and fun.

You'd be hard pressed to find a way to describe Crystal Castles as tame (they are not), but it will be less craybans at their show at Hollywood Palladium with Health and Kontravoid than it will be up the block at Fonda.

Outside of the various Hollyhoods - I'd advise heading west (or west and north).  Over at The Getty Center, Cold Cave turns in one of the late season Saturdays Off the 405 performances.  In Santa Monica, The Central SAPC hosts its monthly Silent Frisco with a blend of NIN and Skrillex tonight.  Pepperdine University brings Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue to their Malibu campus for some high quality New Orleans jazz and funk.  All the way up in Santa Barbara - Snow Patrol and Lissie rock the Santa Barbara Bowl.

Friendly Fires Show at The Roxy (@ohsheida Reports...)

The Roxy was the perfect venue to set Friendly Fires free as they embarked on a Australia and Singapore tour. From the moment singer Ed Macfarlane (any relation to Seth?) said "We Are Friendly Fires" in his dreamy British accent I was all ears. The talk that surrounded Friendly Fires was everything from "you're going to have so much fun" to "they are even better live!" and you know what... I did and they are definitely not just a studio band.

Friendly Fires played songs from their upcoming album Pala. It's riding the funky train to the fresh station. Jump in the Pool lifted my spirits and made standing in bloody* heels worth it. If I had an organized list of top songs this would be around 7 or 8. Words aren't needed for Paris. Have you listened to the Aeroplane Remix? Google that ish. They slowed it down a bit with Skeleton Boy. Occasionally when a band throws a slower song into their set I'm kinda thrown out of my element but FF's Skeleton Boy should be hanging in my art gallery. That song is gorgeous.

All in all, I'm glad I decided to bust a mission and see these boys. @Ohsheida is very happy.

Now you wish you could see them? Ok, since you wished and all, they'll be back in LA June 10th at the Henry Fonda. Don't say I never did anything for you.

*read with British accent.

CHECK YO PONYTAIL 2 #2 IS TONIGHT!!!!!!

It is hard to believe it has only been two weeks since the re-inauguration of Check Yo Ponytail. CYP2 returned raucously - backed by Media Contender and IHEARTCOMIX, with a headlining performance from Midnight Juggernauts. They aren't slowing down at all with this weeks installment.

To make sure all the heads return to the room - they've returned a fortnight later and recruited Big Freedia to make sure there is "Azz Everywhere" at the Echoplex. If you don't already have plans - you would be foolish not to consider going. Pipes, Hawnay Troof, Rusty Lazer and Papparazzi also perform.

And.....if you aren't extremely lazy - you can participate in our ticket giveaway and you might win a pair of tickets. You can enter on twitter (mention @supergoodmusic & @checkyoponytail) on facebook (go to our page and make a CYP2 Related Comment) or e-mail contest@supergoodmusic.com. Winners will be notified in the early afternoon.
