Glen Campbell Celebration at The Hollywood Bowl/Dawes at Bonnaroo

As you may or may not know, Country music legend Glen Campbell (Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Country Music Hall of Fame) was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.   In honor of his legacy and brilliant music career, he will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl on June 24 for one final night of merry-making in Los Angeles with contemporaries and protégés alike.  Sharing the stage will be Jackson Browne, Kris Kristofferson, Jenny Lewis, Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Lucinda Williams and Dawes.

Glen Campbell’s Rhinestone Cowboy:

Dawes will open the first half of the show with some “special guests.”  I’m not sure how the guests could get much more special than the lineup already released, but chances are, the Hollywood Bowl audience is in for a real treat.

Dawes are incredible performers and musicians and are a wonderful choice to honor Mr. Campbell.  Their lyrics could be read as poetry and their harmonies melt souls.  I was honored to see brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith perform as an acoustic duo at a BMI event at Sundance.

The music was even more beautiful stripped down.  Their set at Coachella was equally enjoyable as the full band passionately and energetically shared their songs.

A highlight of that set was when they covered The Band’s The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down in honor of Levon Helm’s passing.   Dawes have a very clear strong connection with country/folk-rock music of the 60s and 70s and will undoubtedly do justice to the rich career of Glen Campbell.

If you will be attending Bonnaroo, be sure to check Dawes out on Friday, June 8 at 7:30pm at The Other Tent and Saturday, June 9 at 1:30pm at the Sonic Stage.

Tic Tic Boom! Release Before The Sun Rises

Tic Tic Boom! released a brand new EP today - Before The Sun Rises - and its admittedly pretty damn good.  The release comes amidst a hectic three months that already included multiple Official SXSW performances, 5 sets at Coachella and a handful of other shows and also brings a residency all the month of May at Lot 1 Cafe.

Starting on Wednesday May 2nd you can expect to hear a handful of Tic Tic BooM! originals each week of May at Lot 1 Cafe.  I strongly encourage you not to miss the opportunity because Boom's latest record shows a lot of growth.  Not only have they begun incorporating more electronics and self-made vocal samples,  but the hooks are pretty catchy ("Constellation Boy" is a rocker).  Before The Sun Rises is a welcome departure from lots of the melancholy LA indie rock I'm used to these days and also a fresh take on synth pop.   Judging by their recent climb up Hype Machine's popular charts with "For Feeling" (reached #9 on the popular twitter chart) - it seems the blogosphere agrees.

You can sample the new sounds on their website and you can watch them jam some of their latest tunes live in Jam In The Van below.

For a taste of their older material - check out this relatively new video for "The Open" which was on their 2011 release Reasons and Rhymes.

Glorification of Drug Use - "Molly"

The latest from Cedric Gervais - "Molly" - glorifies the use of Mole, Molly, molecule, MDMA or whatever you refer to the EDM culture drug as. As the lyrics note - it makes you want to dance... and the video has a lot of skin.

Are you disgusted by the lyrics?

The glorification of drug use in EDM culture?

Do you like this song?

Porter Robinson - Language/Sunday Coachella Set

My first instrument I ever owned were turntables, and it wasn't until I played a drum machine that I was able to learn how to play kit - so there is no denying that there is SUPERGOOD love for all things electronic and electronic music culture.

Porter Robinson is killing the game right now.  He delivered a set of epic proportions and monstrous energy at our BandPage HQ party at SXSW - and he is slated to probably do something similar for the next two weekends in Indio, CA for Coachella.  He is playing 4:20-5:15 on Sunday.  To tease the audience on what some of the drops might sound like - he dropped this poppy ass banger big one - "Language" - on his soundcloud yesterday.

Miike Snow - "Paddling Out" Video

Something about Miike Snow's music just grips me every time. I'm oozing with anticipation for their record, excited to catch them at Coachella and just hoping I'll be able to see them wherever they're playing in Austin during SXSW.

"Paddling Out" is hopefully a great window into what their new record will sound like - cause it just means they'll be continuing their trend of kick-ass left of center melodically sound quasi-dance floor bangers that are ripe for remixing and perfect to drive to. While this music video is positively weird and out of this world - the song isn't. Great structure with some sexy vocal cries in the hook. Enjoy...

Justice Announces Tour; Fuels Coachella Line-Up Predictions

Groundbreaking electronic duo Justice have finally announced a tour to support their sophomore album “Audio, Video, Disco,” which was recently released on Elektra. The 2012 tour returns Justice to the States for the first time in over two years.

Justice have staked their feet in the music industry soil, proving their potential for an extended and more ubiquitous career by progressing their sound and expanding their musical vocabulary following a successful debut album. Justice 's follow up is clearly rooted in their familiar electronic foundation, but adds more than a few traces of their musically sophisticated prog influences. Already known for their dance floor frenzies, this latest release might even pull a few rockers away from the punch bowl and into the party pool.

In addition to the tour announcement, Justice has a few cool things planned around it including a “cover our songs” style contest for the chance to see the first show of the tour on New Year’s Day in Sydney, Australia. (More details here)

Other stops on this tour include New York, Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Atlanta and Las Vegas, to name a few, but we have a sneaking suspicion there could be something more in Indio, CA. The US portion of the tour goes from March 16 to April 25, with Los Angeles conveniently left off the itinerary and with two key weekends in April left vacant. To us, that sounds like a near guarantee that they’ll show up at Coachella 2012. No, Justice haven’t been confirmed by any means, but we are so confident in our trusty crystal ball that we will pay everyone who shares this article $1 if we they don't show up in Indio, CA in April 2012. Go ahead, spread this one. We dare you!

Full US tour schedule (so far):

3/16/12 New York, NY Terminal 5

3/17/12 New York, NY Terminal 5

3/19/12 Boston, MA House of Blues

3/20/12 Philadelphia, PA Electric Factory

3/21/12 Washington, DC 9:30 Club

3/22/12 Atlanta, GA The Tabernacle

4/17/12 Oakland, CA Fox Theater

4/19/12 Las Vegas, NV The Pool - The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas

4/24/12 Portland, OR Roseland Theater

4/25/12 Seattle, WA Paramount Theatre

OMFG - BOWIE IS BACK!

Now, I may have been fooled by someone else's April Fools post, but given it is One Thirty BPM as the source - I am going to cross my fingers and hope for the best. This would mean that yes, it is finally f'ing true, David Bowie is going to hit the road again.

Not as a surprise Coachella guest or even next years headliner. Rather, Bowie is boasting afinal farewell episode of 12 shows in some of the worlds biggest cities - including London, Madrid, Rome, Berlin and 6 lucky locations in the United States.

Not only will Bowie be closing the dozen show run in Los Angeles at The Staples Center on August 10, 2012, it is rumored that Trent Reznor will bring the Nine Inch Nails out of retirement to support the legend. Talk about an amazing bill of talent!

Tickets will only be available via phone in at 1-800-277-3665 starting at 1 pm. Please for the love of god this better not be a hoax.

FESTIVAL & ALBUM PREVIEW: BLACK JOE LEWIS & THE HONEYBEARS

One of the sleepers in this years summer festival fantasy draft was Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears. They seem to be popping up everyhwhere - starting with Jam Cruise, continuing on their own tour and then stopping at Coachella and going on to McDowell Mountain Music Festival, Summerfest, and hopefully more in promotion of their new album "Scandalous" which is due on March 15th.

Check out their first video here:

Dear SXSW and Coachella - 12th Planet is coming

Have you heard this bass? Turn your computer speakers up and learn how John Dadzie AKA 12th Planet throws down at festivals in 2011. This is 12th at Snowball Music Festival past Friday.

Why didn't I go to Colorado for Snowball Music Festival?

Coachella Countdown: Friday 4/15 Featured Act - Afrojack

If you're not yet familiar with Afrojack - it is probably in name only. You've undoubtedly heard Nick van de Wall's music on some dance floor in America or internationally. Not only does he take over the dance floor, but he also takes control with Eva Simons in the song - "Take Over Control"

The 23 year old Dutch producer is definitely a sensation to check out - he crushed Electric Daisy Carnival last year and he has a lot of heat off his recently released album "Lost & Found" which was released in late December 2010.

DipDive Oasis Party Update - 4/17/2010 - Will.i.am and More!

LA RIOTS just added to this party - performing during the daytime. Party is Saturday of Coachella weekend at the Merv Griffin estate. Don't miss out - this is going to be off the chain!

1st Coachella Performance We're Checking Out Is....WALE

Since checking out the schedule, we've had to make some hard decisions on who we're going to see, who we're not going to see and when we're going to attend some of the amazing satellite parties we've been hearing about.

One thing is certain though, I'm trying to make Wale my first performance of Coachella 2010. The rising MC, managed by Elitaste, is performing from 2:35 - 3:25 on the Coachella stage, so you'll hear him when you are walking in the festival grounds. He first popped on my radar at the 2007 MTV I've been a fan since before "Nike Boots," and I imagine if you read this blog, you've at least heard of the rapper born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin. If you haven't heard about Wale, you probably don't listen to radio, have been absent from the music blogosphere and/or have no love for hip-hop. If you haven't heard of him - but want to check out a little more about him and hear one of his songs - go to this blog/site - http://mixtapemaestro.net/2010/04/wale-breakup-song.html

The Interscope signed artist released his debut album, Attention Deficit, in November 2009 which featured a few dope singles, including Chillin' (featuring Lady Gaga) that made its way onto a few SUPERGOODMUSIC mixes and World Tour (featuring Jamie Sullivan) which is on our April Showers Bring Coachella Flowers mix.

He has the lyrics, the beats and the charisma to be a hip-hop staple for a while, so don't sleep on this opportunity to see him while he is still a rising star...
