Lil Monster Birthday for Sam!

Hi all!  So Sam's 2nd birthday (hold back a sniffle...my little baby is 2!) is this Saturday and we are having a Lil Monster themed birthday party for him.

I got the plates, cups, etc. at Target but cannot seem to find a web pic of the stuff to show you..grr.
I'm looking for some cute and cheap DIY monster themed decorations for his party...
Any ideas?

I like the googly eyes on stuff and the paper foot-prints on the wall like here.
But I want more!

Jack's MONSTER JAM 4th Birthday Party!

So the little young'n turned 4...so I think by now, we've made up our mind to go ahead and keep him.
Just kidding :)

Man,we had a great time!  Total and complete MAYHEM in my tiny house, but who knew 40 bodies could fit in my living room!?

So since my dad took all the boys to go see Monster Jam (aka monster truck show) a few weeks ago, we had to do a moster truck theme...

and I'll just be damned if the Dollar Tree didn't have a whole cute little line of Monster Truck themed b-day supplies!!The b-day gods were smiling on me :)

(I forgot to take a pic of everything set up, but you get the idea)
But check out the cake...of course, my dad did it.

You've seen his work here, here, and here!
Look how huge it is compared to Jack!
In case you wondering, the cake box is actually a little "stadium".  (my dad's a packaging designer and can make anything out of corrugated).  The cake is decorated like a dirt track and we bought a bunch of mini monster trucks from Wal-Mart and stuck em on!  Best of all, he still has the stadium and plays "monster truck show" all the time.

And of course, Jack loved all his presents.  Check out all the loot!
And birthday games...nah.  Who's wants to do that?
I just turned on the funky sprinkler and put out the kiddie pool...the kids were satisfied with that.

(you can't really see the sprinkler, but that's what my dog is so interested at in the pic above; she's so dumb :)

I got all the plates, decor, napkins, streamers, even Mylar balloons from the Dollar Tree...not bad.
I think the total for decorations and party supplies was like $40.  Throw in some hot dogs, chips, and popsicles...maybe another $20.  And we kept it light on the presents from us since we have such a huge family...he got TONS of new toys.  I only spent $30-40 on his presents.
That's an entire 4th birthday for under $100.

He had a great time!  Happy 4th kiddo!

Toot Toot Tut

So I saw this at Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy...
and thought, "That is so cute...but I don't have anyone to make one for...?"
(Jack is a little too old and Sam just likes playing with Jacks toys)

Oh well...then yesterday, my boss announces that it was his sons 1st birthday!!
I knew exactly what I wanted to do for little Jackson!

I am so in love with it!
I used blue felt for the window, yellow flannel for the ladder, and white minky fabric in the wheels...
Lots of fun color, pattern, and textures!
Perfect for a 1st Birthday!
You could head over to Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy to see where she got the tut from.
I didn't follow the tut though...just sorta winged it.
What you need:
Coordinating fabrics with color and texture
sewing machine
thread, pins, needle, scissors, etc.

Its very easy:
Step 1:  I cut out a pattern in the basic shape of a fire truck

Step 2:  Cut the fabric - 2 sides for your truck (I will draw out a pattern to post later)

Step 3:  Cut a 2" wide strip of fabric to "wrap" around your truck (make sure its long enough to go ll the way around)

Step 4:  Sew all of your embellishments onto the main side of your truck

Step 5:  Pin the strip of fabric to one side of your truck and sew into place (right side in)

Step 6: Pin the other side of your truck (right side in) to the strip and sew into place.  Leave a hole to turn right side out.

Step 7:  Turn right side out, stuff and whip stitch the hole closed.
All done!
Thanks Stacey for all the inspiration!!!  Can't wait to make another!
Jackson loved the new gift!

A Successful Birthday Party

Alright, if you are new to SSB...we have been planning a Sesame Street themed 1st Birthday Party.

Some ladies were awesome enough to put out some suggestions and I thank you very much!  The party was a HIT!  Everyone enjoyed themselves...especially Sam!

Christina's Creative Side suggested a candy buffet...the kids weren't the only ones digg'n that...
Making Memories with the McClellen's suggested the Dollar Tree...and yes, I think I purchased everything on their party favor aisle...everything else came from Party City.  I know, I know...not very creative.  But hey!  I've been busy!  Or I waited until the last minute...like 7pm the night before.  Whoops.

But I still got everything plus food for under $100.  Not too shabby.

Here are a few pics...

Here's the birthday boy!

The totally awesome Cookie Monster cookie cake that my dad made...
check out Jack's cake that he made!

Here's Sam with his birthday cake...
What's this?
Found my hat...
Ah, who needs a hat...back to cake.

Sesame Street birthday coming up...

So...its been a busy week.  Not only is my 2nd week at my new job...and its been busy.
But also!  Its Sam's 1st birthday party this weekend!!
Woo hoo!

Alright...so we're a little tight on funds and I'm looking for fun yet thrifty decor for his party.
Ideas?
  Suggestions?

Check out what I got so far...
I snagged these from Wally World the other day (super cute and only a few bucks)...perfect for the kiddo's.

And what's amazing is that we have a few Sesame Street friends living right in our home!  They will make a cute center piece for the table...you think?

And of course there will be yellow, blue and red balloons and streamers...much like Jacks party here.

I think I'm going to have my mom bake a giant cookie cake and have a Cookie Monster cake, but other than that...I'm kinda winging it!?

Any cool Sesame Street ideas are welcomed!!
Post a comment with a cool, thrifty Sesame Street party tip!

Jack's 3rd Birthday Party!

Hey all!  I wanna share Jack's party with you!  I just love throwing parties and event planning....so many fun details!  And I get a big kick outta trying to get the biggest BASH for my $$$!

Alright, so my first move was to browse my local Dollar Tree...nothing very exciting utnil I visited the one in Arlington , where my folks live.  RRrrr! MATEY!  PIRATE PARTY STUFF!  There we go, our theme is a Pirate Birthday Bash!

Once I had my theme, I was ready to go.  Mostly went with store bought decorations (everything for under $30)!  Check it all out!

The goodie bags were my genious husbands idea...grrr, it shoulda been mine, BUT I MADE THEM!  Anyways, for a pirate theme, I took plain ole paper lunch sacks and drew pirate treasure maps on them with a Sharpie marker!  Easy peezy and super cute!

Dressing up a party is easy to do....with streamers!!!  Super CHEAP and adds color and fun!
And let me tell you something about balloons...kids love em.  Whats not to love?  They float and brightly colored, I mean I get it.  But, don't skimp on quality.  Go to your local party store and buy the good ones.

And get a load at this cake!  My father has made all the kids' cakes since forever!
My dad is the BOMB!
The bottom layer is a sheet cake with a plastic wrapped cardboard box sitting on top.  Fill with candy and treasures, then place the box lid on and cover with a molded sheet cake (so it looks like the lid to a treasure chest).  Decorate and when you're ready to open er up, prop up the lid with something sturdy (we used one of the party cups).
And lets not forget all the loot.  Jack made out with a new bike, a sandbox, and enough Toy Story toys to last until Christmas, hopefully.  Hope you enjoyed!
