Saturday Showcase - Flowers

Happy Saturday!  The whole design team at the Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge blog is sharing a special Saturday Showcase!  Everyone is creating a tag with flowers to share with you.  Hop over here to see all the wonderful inspiration.
The challenge was to be inspired by flowers and create a tag.  I love these flower stamps by Dina Wakely as they are outline stamps and you can use different prints, stamps, or coloring to fill the inside of the flowers.

I knew I wanted to use up some of my index cards from the Positively Pensive challenge. I had created probably 30 index card backgrounds.  :)  I don't usually put all my scraps up on the blog unless they end up in a project or have some type of technique.

I had spent some time mixing paints (new dylusion paints and distress ink paints) on my craft mat  and then picking up the paint colors on index cards.   I swirled together the colors and then used an acrylic block to ink it up and put it on the cards or I placed the cards directly into the paint on my craft mat.

For this index card, I painted the background with a bright pink.  I let it dry completely and then painted over with a stencil partially using a light orange color.  After that dried I outlined the painted area with a ball point pen on some of it to give it extra texture.

I used all my different painted backgrounds to create my flowers and leaves. I stamped the flowers and petals on different sections of the painted cards and cut them out to layer them.

Here are the remnants of the petals and leaves stamping and cutting. I was using up almost every piece of about 4 index cards of paint.

After that it was a matter of just putting the petals on a base flower. I used glue dots to attach the base of each petal to layer them and create a 3D flower.  I then used another inky background as the base for my flowers.  I stamped the flowers onto the background to give me a placement and then built out the flowers.

I finished the tag with the lovely sentiment that comes with the stamp set and stamped it on the same background as the tag and cut it out and layered it in.

Thanks for stopping by to see the flowers!

Saturday Showcase - Christmas Tags

Happy Saturday to you!  Christmas is rapidly approaching so the team over at The Funkie Junkie Challenge decided to do a special Saturday Showcase and everyone created a tag!  You need to pop over there to see what wonderful designs they cooked up for this very special showcase!

I was inspired by a cooking challenge that asked the contestants to do a white on white baked display.  It had me thinking about what I could create with layers and dimension all in white!

I decided to start with an stamped and embossed background to give a layer of soft texture before I even layered on the die cut bits and pieces.

The hardest part of this tag was getting a photo. :)  The white on white is hard to capture the beauty of the shimmer, glimmer and softness.

I stamped the background with Versamark and heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder.

I die cut all the various pieces and then covered them with versamark and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder.

It gave them a lovely sheen.  I then assembled my poinsettias with pop dots between the centers and when I attached them to the tag.

I took a few of the metallic droplets and painted them white and then sprinkled them with distress crystal glitter.

I finished the tag with a white bow and painted a charm white to coordinate.

I wish you and all your loved ones a very blessed and happy holiday!

Oh The Places You will Go

Howdy.   It's Funkie time over at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge blog.  Zoe provided us this fun challenge "Oh the Places You will Go" .  For this one you will need to create a vintage or shabby chic project with travel as the central theme. Think planes, trains, auto-mobiles, ships, maps, globes.

The Design Team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  The Boutique is having an awesome sale right now and some great deals!

I wanted to use the negative space from the globe die and decided to play around with sponging distress ink over the globe.
I created to travel inspired tags using a brown dye ink and the globe cut from a manilla tag.  I started using plain cardstock for my globe as a stencil. It worked okay but didn't hold it shape as well when I was sponging on the ink.  One of the tags was made using the paper globe and the other was sponged with a manilla tag globe which was sturdier.  :)  I am sure you can guess which is which based on how crisp the lines are.

I like working in parallel on two of a similar project sometimes as it gives you an opportunity to try out different ideas.  The fun is to see where you end up with the to different variations of the same project.

Don't forget to pop over to the Frilly and Funkie blog to see everyone's beautiful creations!  Thanks for stopping by!
