Favorite Things

At the Funkie Junkie Inspiration Ave we are highlighting our 2022 favorite things from Tim Holtz.  I picked a few of my favorites to highlight in the post today.

When I saw the Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Layering Stencil Crest I fell in love.  The image is so lovely and elegant.  I decided to pull that out along with the Ranger Distress Mica Seasonal Stain Sprays another of my favorite things from 2022.

I spent some time just playing with the stencil and various mediums.

Some of the backgrounds involved just spraying the mica stain sprays over the stencil on white cardstock.

Using the inky stencil itself to pick up the reverse image with the mica stain spray remnants.
The opaque crackle paste on the black cardstock made quite an impression. :)

While the embossing paste is still wet, sprinkle the rock candy distress effect and spray it with the gold mica stain spray.   The effect was beautiful!

A paper bag left over from shopping was used as the next backdrop to the embossing paste and mix of mica stain sprays.

The embossing paste was spread over the layering stencil and let it dry.  After it dried spritz it with multiple layers of pink, gold, and water.  The water helps blend the colors together and allows them to blend together.  At the end it was splattered with white watered down paint.

To get the next image with depth the stencil was place on white cardstock and  distress opaque embossing paste was applied.  Without removing the stencil blue mica stain spray was spritzed over.

After all the images were dry they were all mounted on various backgrounds.

Sometimes deciding what should be used as the frame is like finding the perfect color of pants to go with a favorite shirt.

Lovely gold cardstock was used to frame the pink and gold combinations.

Then it was time to use a few of the backgrounds in a few different projects.  I started with the black and gold because the effect was so striking.

The angel seemed like a beautiful accent for the rich black and gold tag.  I had a string of rusty stars on wire in my stash. I pulled them out and painted them with gold paint.  I then coated them with the rock candy and sprayed them with the same gold mica spray.  I attached them with the tiny attacher but painted the staples gold before I put them in the stapler.   I found a tiny text sentiment (another of my all time favorite stamp sets)  and stamped it to coordinate.

Next I took the beautiful reverse image in silver and created a wedding inspired tag.

I added a layer of sparkle with the shimmery stars splattered around the background.  Some vintage lace created a beautiful bow that emulated the lovely crest pattern.

I hoped you have enjoyed the inspiration!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Hi!  Welcome back for the next challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Janna is hosting and she has challenged us with: April Showers Bring May Flowers

"Spring has sprung and flowers are blooming. Add flowers to this weeks creation. They can be your main focal point or hiding in the background. Let’s get into the swing of spring with flowers. Happy crafting!"

I love the flowery stencil from Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Bouquet and that became the backdrop to my card.

I paired the stencil with the salt water taffy distress oxide for a soft pink backdrop.

Then I used some of the pretty Prima flowers to accent a heart doily.  I used one of the bee charms who was dust coated with some white paint and the quote to finish off my simple love note.

Come play along with us in the challenge for a chance to win prizes and a chance to guest design!

Thanks for stopping by!

Out With the Old, In With the New

Happy to be back in the new year sharing a new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  We have some new design team members and said goodbye to some old team members.  The new challenge celebrates the new year with the theme of Out with the Old and in with the New.

All you have to do is create something using something new and something old.

I have these new chipboard sprigs from Ranger that I have been wanting to play with. I decided to pull them out and use them!

I also had my old Stampers Anonymous stamps Faded Text that I wanted to use in the design as well. I also mixed in some old lace from my lace collection.

The background is embossed with the burlap texture from an layering stencil.  I used lots of sprays and inks to add colors and shine!

Come check out the new challenge and inspiration from the new design team!

The overall winner will be offered the chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the drawing for the chance to win a $25.00 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Happy New Year!

Wishing you all a very blessed and  joyful New Year!

I started this before Christmas but couldn't find the backdrop to make this image shine.  I finished it this morning and was hoping it could bring us joy in the new year!

This is one of my favorite images and is an old stamp from Hero Arts in their ArtStamps collection.

I spent a lot of time trying to frame it in a way that would make it shine.  I embossed the background of the tag with embossing paste and the gothic lettering.  I sprayed it with a mix of Antique Linen, Mica Spray, and Tarnished Brass.  After that I added random spurts of gold paint.  I die cut the frame and mixed the same colors.  I cut out the area for the stamped image.  I love this sentiment stamp as well which is from Memory Box and an older stamp as well.

I then glitzed up the background with die cut snowflakes from tissue paper which were embossed with Ranger Queen's Gold.  I then sprinkled on snowflakes and gems.

My wish for everyone in the New Year is a healthy pandemic free world.  :)

The Sea Prince

Welcome!  Today I am sharing my art for the current Frilly and Funkie Challenge "Surf's Up".  The challenge is hosted by the fabulous Kathy and here is how she describes the challenge:

"Who's ready for a little sand, a little sun and a little surf?  Let's take this challenge for a stroll beside the shore!  Create a vintage or shabby chic project with a beachy theme.  Use ocean colors and beach images to add a fun seaside feel to your project."

I was struggling a bit with the challenge and then got inspired by the idea of a little sea prince who was brought into the underwater world by a grieving queen who had lost her little boy. He joined the princess and they were raised in a beautiful underwater world.

I started with a big kraft tag that I had painted, stenciled multiple layers to create a lovely watery background.

I cut the tag up into ATC size pieces and created a few mini tag shapes along with the plain atc shapes.  I then created a mix of images.
I applied white paint over the surface.  Then used the splashes with blue distress oxide ink over that.  I came back with the bubbles painted in white and on one of them again with a clear embossing powder mixed with glitter.

I cut out the turtles, flowers, and little girl from the Graphic 45 papers.  I embossed the turtles with a shimmer embossing powder.  I added some alcohol ink on some pearls to add a touch of color to the pearls before accenting the atcs.

I hope you get a chance to be inspired by the sun, beach and water! The winner will earn the chance of a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. And there are Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team, because choosing just one winner is so hard!

Things that Fly

It's time to fly!  The challenge at Frilly and Funkie this time around is "Get in on the Action".  The extremely talented Kathy is hosting and here is her description of the challenge:

" Adding an interactive element on a card, tag, layout or canvas adds a bit of fun to any project. For this challenge, create a vintage or shabby chic project that incorporates an interactive element of one sort or another in the design. You can add a pocket and tag, a hidden tag, a hinged page, a flap, a flip, a tuck spot, a special fold or any kind of interactive element that appeals to you. Be sure to tell us in your post what makes your project interactive, as it may or may not be apparent in a photo. "

Having just received the new Stampers Anonymous Entomology stamp set it  had me thinking of flying tags!

And since Kathy challenged us to be interactive. I thought it would be fun to use the bugs as the pulls on the tags.  I created multiple pockets with multiple tags to pull in and out.

Each tag has it's own stamped images along with a layered bug.  I stamped each bug in black on the same background paper and then added acetate wings.

The background is a mix of smooshed water and ranger distress oxides.  I also just acquired the new colors of inks and wanted to try them out.  I smeared, spritzed and smeared again the colors on my craft mat.  I added lots of water and swirled together the colors and then dabbed it up on mixed media cardstock.

After I had finished everything I matted it onto black cardstock and then flicked white acrylic paint over everything to lighten up the dark areas.

I hope this has inspired you to try out an interactive project!  If you play along you will have a chance of a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. And there are Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.
