Here comes the sun (room) remix

Not gonna lie.  Totally sit in the sunroom and gaze with approval and love at the state of the backyard. There may be satisfied nodding and "mmm hmming" with accomplishment, as one does with a finished project. When one is alone. And isn't being asked a question. Sure.

I'm loving on that bold black and white so much, i brought into the sunroom using the same pillows, and one clearance blanket.  Talk about a deal and a steal.  Apropos of this room, in which everything was bought at a yard sale, a thrift store, or taken from the neighbor's trash.

That sofa frame right there?  Neighbors trash.  The scrolly arms were never my favorite, but one does not look a gift sofa in the mouth.  Much like the outdoor set, i think the bold stripe in the black and white modernizes the look.

If ever you wondered if you needed a skylight that opens, i assure you, you do.

Ahh, the things we do for our animals, like putting out tray tables so they can sit at the same level of the windows.

These white chairs are probably the best yard sale find ever at $12 a piece.  I had to pretend i didn't want them, as i watched the couple who arrived before us sitting in them.  I proclaimed to the boyfriend loudly "No, i think i'd rather have wicker." The couple looked at each other, clearly contemplating the same thing, and walked away.  SOLD to me.  Sometimes you have to play the game, sorry (not sorry) other couple.

If anyone would like to recover these cushions, though, i'd be more than happy to support that, lol.  I just pretty much ignore the faint plaid pattern.  That green damask throw is what i had on the sofa before, and was just not modern at all. But she's mighty soft.

Fake plant for the win!

We created this shelving niche in what was formerly the bathroom window.  That's right.  You could be in the sunroom and peek into the bathroom.  I mean, you'd be a total creeper, but you could do it.

Here's a better sense of what i'm talking about. This was the exterior wall (read: brick) with the window in the bathroom looking to the outside.  Dry walling totally changed this to a more finished and definitely brighter space.

A much nicer look.

Now when i sit out here nodding to myself, it's over the cohesion of these two spaces, with their bold black and white patterns, and lush and vibrant greens.

Talk about a before!  This was one of the first before and afters ever shared on the blog, a whopping 4 years ago.

I thought we could all use a refresher on this, my favorite project, as i changed the room to reflect my style more.

Any readers from all those years ago remember this project? If so, thanks for sticking around.  Hope everyone had a relaxing holiday weekend.

Gorgeous gray girls and random crazies

This morning I was doing my time sheets for work, which are in 2 week increments.  I can't believe that on the next sheet, the second week's dates began with "12".  Ca-ray-zee.  So Chanukah is super early this year, like next Wednesday, day before Thanksgiving early.  Ca-ray-zee.

Some gratuitous shots of gorgeousness right here striking the same pose.  Ca-ray-zee.

Super close to each other.  Ca-ray-zee.

Even if one of them is actually crazy.

Like eating the scratching post, toilet paper, and paper towels crazy.

And even if the other one eats tissues crazy.

I can't even take it.

So ca-ray-zee thankful for these babies.

Loves of my life.

What are some of your thankfuls this year?  Any crazies you want to add?  Will you be putting cranberry sauce on your latkes, too?  That doesn't actually sound that bad....

It ain't easy being green

Ok, so it ain't a fun and vibrant green yet...but it will be!  Now you may remember when i shopped my own yard sale and absconded with my mother in law's blue/green, curvy, not exactly my style but free table to display the plants in my sunroom.  I lived with it for a while, as we all do with free stuff, and then decided to be on the lookout-but not necessarily look for-a different table that was truer to myself.

This bar cart-ish, sunroom material looking, simple straight lined piece was all of $8.00 at my favorite thrift store, so i crossed my fingers that she'd fit into my little car  scooped her up.

What is this material?  Rattan? Wicker? Sea Grass?  And what is the difference between them all, i never know...and will google it later.

I love the doors (goodbye clutter) and the wheels.  Take the doors off, and it's very similar to this cart.

If it wasn't gross outside this whole summer, i'd be showing you the before and after.  Alas, all you're getting is the 3 cans of spraypaint pessimist me thought necessary to complete the piece...we'll see how many are actually needed...some day.

My mom thought the cart looked good as is...what would you do?  Paint it?  Leave it?  Take the doors off?

Rest, Relax, Read

You are going to have to indulge me.  This completely is may be the cutest animal in all existence.

Can you make out the word in the background?

This needs to be blown up and framed.

Or maybe this one...

But look at this one.  That little chin, that little paw!

Two paws, ah ah ah. I used my best Count voice, could you tell?

I just feel terrible though...we had to take away not only her "bed" but her elevated vantage point for the best bird and squirrel and bunny spying...
The good news is, that means it's in the basement bathroom!  Wahoo!  At least somewhat...we're getting granite cut for the top instead of using the laminate one piece that came with this.  Two steps forward, one step back?

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend, too.  Can you believe it's practically November?  Unreal.

Happy place, happy face

The sunroom is my happy place, and i love to surround myself with greens and things that flourish in the warmer weather.  My recent finds are making my happy place even happier.  Making me even happier?  Oh yes. Most were fa-ree.  Woo to the hoo, right?

Stealing the show is this little blue/green table that had been living in S's mom's attic.  Say what?!  We've been together for almost 14 years, and i've never seen this little beauty.  True, we didn't have our own house that whole time, and i think i appreciate the table's shape more since blogging, but still.  The woman was holding out on me.  So when she had it for sale at our yard sale?  You better believe i scooped this little beauty up, hid her in the back, and piled trash on her to stop any confusion about whether she was for sale or not.  She works perfectly for corralling some plants and as a place to put a beverage.

Little shelf?  I loooove little shelf's existance!  Another space for displaying and also providing a very nice area for stockpiling thrifted/free crap relating to planting goodies underneath.

Litle urn will be getting a coat of white paint, it's a bit of a dingy cream now.  Free from estate sale leftovers, along with gold urn hiding in the back (up top).  Tray of texturey goodness taken from SIL's free pile after our own yard sale.  Since little shelf needed something to shelve, of course.

Obsessed with white ceramic pots much?  Both thrifted for 2-3 bucks. Perhaps this weekend i'll figure out a better solution for the succulent.  Little asian-ish urn? Free from church leftovers (just like one from last year). There was just something about it.

This mean anything?

Love all the greens (color wise and living plants) in this space and the crisp whites.  This says spring/summer to me.  This says waste away the day right here to me.

Yay for yard sales and yay for yard sale leftovers...tis the season!

2010-A Rehashing

2010-the year of the blog.  Ok, maybe i'm the only one calling it that, but since that's when i started mine, and therefore started documenting everything, that's what "the ten" felt like for me.  Let's go on a virtual best of 2010 journey together...hold hands and look both ways.

"Here comes the Sunroom", and quite possibly my favorite post title.  Gotta love a gal who works in a Beatles tune.

Took the Bedroom from boring blah to ahh-Truly a Christmas miracle that we finally painted but no new photo til next year.  Currently the furniture is smooshed in the middle of the room and walls need one more coat...not exactly the grand reveal i'm going for.

Added a  Big a$$ garage that i had to pretty up quick and cheap...

Began work on the basement renovation, which i am happy to report is looking more and more like usable space every day.

Shared why i can't paint my kitchen white, in haiku form, no less...

Found a newfound love for thrifting and craftiness...

And professed my undying affection for this little gray one.

Next year promises a finished basement-lordy, i hope so-a bathroom revamp, continued random musings, and more cat cuteness.  I truly appreciate those of you who have been with me on this journey this year-your encouragement, your comments, your friendship...your ideas that allow me to expand mine...bring it on, 2011.
I'm joining Rhoda's year end party.
