Fast & Furious Blogger Mike Vanderboegh Dead of Cancer

Mike Vanderboegh, a prepper/III percent blogger who, along with fellow gun blogger David Codrea and CBS journalist Sharyl Atkisson exposed the Obama administration's "Operation Fast & Furious" gunwalking plot, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Mike Vanderboegh Is Dying.

The cancer is killing him. He has medical expenses and will be leaving a widow. Hope you'll consider helping out.

Mike was one of the two bloggers, along with David Codrea, who broke open the Fast & Furious gun-walking scandal by the ATF. That right there is justification enough for all gun owners to help out.

Sharyl Attkisson Interview With the Hollywood Reporter

The former CBS reporter in a remarkable interview tied in with the release of her book on the scandals she covered during the Obama administration, including Fast & Furious and Benghazi.

I wasn't expecting much from an outlet such as The Hollywood Reporter, but the journalist conducting the interview, Paul Bond, does an incredibly good job at trying to get Attkisson to dish on the Obama administration and CBS. Attkisson plays it very close to the vest, being careful not to say anything legally actionable (libel, slander) save in a couple of cases where she names names. One new reveal is that she's the subject of a whispering campaign at CBS to characterize her as paranoid or a liar, and she identifies CBS bureau chief Chris Isham as responsible for this. A good, good interview, well worth reading in full.

Good Riddance...

...to bad rubbish.

The contemptible Eric Holder is resigning his post as US Attorney General.

Holder was a net liability to the Obama administration; Republicans hate him, as do gun owners and even reporters. If he had remained in office he would have increased turnout by Republicans in November, eager to flip the Senate and impeach his sorry ass. I think he probably saw the handwriting on the wall, and didn't want to be the first US Attorney General impeached and removed from office, in addition to being the first one to be held in contempt of Congress.

It will be interesting to see whether there will be an effort by the Justice Department to be more open in the days before the election: stop blocking Fast & Furious documents, less opposition to voter ID efforts, Benghazi, etc. If the interrim AG makes a good-faith effort to work with Congress, it will probably suppress some of the GOP turnout that was motivated by hatred of Holder.

Judge Orders Holder To Turn Over Fast & Furious Documents

Story.

I rather imagine there will be an unfortunate fire at the document storage facility in 3...2...1...

Good Riddance...

...to bad rubbish.

Eric Holder, the disgraced Attorney General of the United States, has indicated he is stepping down in 2014.

I'll believe it when I see it. I hope he's got a good law team of his own, because if the Republicans take the Senate in the 2014 elections, he's likely to face arrest over Fast & Furious and the IRS scandal.

Another Fast & Furious Rifle Turns Up

It was used to kill a Mexican police chief. Thanks, Barack Obama and Eric Holder!

update: bad link before, fixed. Thanks to Brock Townsend for noticing.

update 2: Screwed up the link to Free North Carolina. I'm definitely not paying attention to detail, something that was emphasized to me in Navy boot camp lo those many years ago.

ATF Agent Sold Gun To Fast & Furious Straw Purchaser

And he's still employed by the ATF. Go figure.

CBS News has learned that two guns found in the area of a recent Mexican drug cartel shootout have been linked to Fast and Furious: one trafficked by a suspect in the case, and the other purchased by a federal agent.

Mexican beauty queen Susana Flores Maria Gamez and four others died in the brutal gun battle between Sinaloa cartel members and the Mexican military in November. CBS News has learned that an FN Herstal pistol recovered near the crime scene in November was originally purchased by an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) manager who was faulted by the Inspector General in Operation Fast and Furious: George Gillett. Gillett was the Asst. Special Agent in Charge of ATF Phoenix when Fast and Furious began.

The Herstal pistol is nicknamed a "cop-killer" because of its designation as a "weapon of choice" for Mexican drug cartels. We've learned the Inspector General planned to question Gillett today after a hastily-opened inquiry to determine how this agent's personal weapon got into the hands of suspected cartel members.

CBS News spoke to Gillett, who is still employed at ATF. Gillett acknowledged he once owned the weapon in question, but says he sold it in Phoenix sometime last year after advertising it on the Internet. He declined to provide the name of the man who bought it, but says he went "above and beyond" what was required by law to complete the firearms transaction. That included asking the purchaser to fill out a form giving personal information and stating that he was in the US legally; and checking his driver's license, which Gillett said was issued in the US.

"I didn't do anything criminal," Gillett stated. He calls himself a gun enthusiast: "I've been a gun collector all my life." He told CBS News he ran into financial difficulties in recent years and sold some of his firearms. Gillett says the Herstal pistol may have sold for approximately $1,100.

"I didn't do anything criminal." Yah, we know: I am not a crook. We've heard that one before.

Click the link to read the rest of this story. More fine reporting by Sheryl Atkisson, one of only two reporters willing to embarrass the Obama administration (the other is ABC's Jake Tapper, who asked President Obama in today's press conference on gun control, "Where were you for the last four years?")

Another Fast & Furious Gun Surfaces (At a Murder Scene)

A Mexican beauty queen was murdered in a gunfight in which it showed up.

A gun found at the scene of a shootout between a Mexican drug cartel and soldiers where a beauty queen died was part of the botched “Fast and Furious” operation, CBS News reports.

Authorities had said that Maria Susana Flores Gamez was likely used as a human shield and that an automatic rifle had been found near her body after the Nov. 23 shootout.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, tells CBS News that the Justice Department did not notify Congress that a Fast and Furious firearm was found at the scene in Sinaloa.

I don't think any Presidential gun control task force that VP Biden is heading will be willing to discuss Fast & Furious guns, do you?

US Justice Dept. Inspector General Issues Fast & Furious Report

Spread plenty of blame around both the ATF and the Justice Department, but made sure to fix no blame at all on Eric Holder. Imagine that.

The inspector general’s report recommended that the Justice Department take disciplinary action against 14 current and former officials from the department and ATF. Among them were Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer and former acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson.

“The inspector general did not find persuasive evidence that any supervisor in Phoenix at either the U.S. attorney’s office or ATF raised serious questions or concerns about the risk to public safety posed by the continuing firearms purchases or by the delay in arresting individuals who were engaging in the trafficking,” Michael Horowitz, the department’s inspector general, wrote in the 471-page report. “This failure reflects a significant lack of oversight and urgency by both ATF and the U.S. attorney’s office.”

Fast & Furious Figure Resigns

William Hoover, who served as Deputy Director of ATF during Fast & Furious.

William Hoover was one of the five ATF officials House oversight committee chairman Darrell Issa and Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley singled out as responsible for Operation Fast and Furious. ATF spokesman Drew Wade told the AP that Hoover resigned on Tuesday – the day Issa and Grassley released the congressional report in which they singled out Hoover and four of his colleagues.

Fast & Furious: How High Did It Go?

At the very least to the level of Deputy Attorney General.

But this new congressional report, released Tuesday by House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa and Sen. Chuck Grassley — both Republicans — concludes senior Obama administration officials appear to have set the stage for, and possibly encouraged, ATF officials to walk guns into Mexico.

The report finds that Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, who leads the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, told Holder about the Firearms Trafficking Working Group (FTWG) in an Aug. 19, 2009, memo of recommendation.

“The FTWG’s mission was to formulate a plan to improve the U.S. government’s efforts in stemming the illegal flow of weapons, which was fueling escalating violence along both sides of the Southwestern border,” the report reads. “The working group’s first recommendation was that the ‘attorney general and secretary of Homeland Security should form an interagency Southwest Border (‘SWB’) firearms trafficking strategy group.’ According to the Justice Department, ‘the deputy attorney general responded to the specific proposals in this memorandum by forming the Southwest Border Strategy Group, which he chaired.’”

Shortly thereafter, then-Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, the No. 2 official in the Department of Justice, drafted and disseminated a new planning document titled “Strategy for Combating the Mexican Cartels.”

Hypocrite Says What?

"I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree, AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals." - - President Obama, speaking to Urban League of New Orleans on the 25th of July.

Oh, you mean AK-47's like the ones you and your utterly corrupt Attorney General, Eric Holder, allowed to flow into Mexico and into the hands of drug cartels, who used them to murder over 300 Mexican nationals and Border Patrol agent Brian Terry? Those AK-47's?

How Obama's, Romney's Gun Control Views Have "Evolved"

Washington Post article.

The article doesn't mention Obama's appointment of anti-gun Justices to the Supreme Court: Sotomayor and Kagan. Nor does the article mention Obama's promise to Sarah Brady to work on gun control "under the radar," and makes no mention at all of the Fast & Furious gunwalking scandal that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Mexican nationals as well as Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and ICE agent Jaime Zapata.

Race Card, Wholesale Edition

Looks like the Congressional Black (Liberal) Caucus is planning to stage a walk-out during the vote tomorrow holding Attorney General Eric Holder, a *gasp* black man in contempt of Congress for stonewalling the Fast & Furious investigation.

Because that's always worked in the past as the black man's trump card, whenever he is in a corner, confronted with his own stupidity, venality or criminality: white man made me do it. You only doing this 'cause you is white and I is black. Ain'cho slave. I've heard that sorry refrain all my life, and I'm heartily sick of it.

The MSM, of course, will view the playing of the Wholesale Race Card with gratitude, since it will allow them to avoid the whole Fast & Furious scandal itself, which most of them barely understand to begin with, and certainly don't want to inform the American people about, because it's worse by far than Watergate ever was, because Watergate HAD NO BODY COUNT.

Speaker Boehner,if he were any sort of shrewd man, would have the murdered Border Patrol officer Brian Terry's parents in the House gallery for the vote, and a poster-sized photograph of Terry near the dais as the vote is taken, so that the MSM couldn't ignore it. Back 100 years ago in the post-Civil War era, this was known as "waving the bloody shirt." Well, goddamnit, that shirt needs to be waved, because spilled blood trumps the race card.
