April Showers blog hop... & Giveaway!!!

April Showers Snow brings May flowers..
I love Minnesota but I think we skipped over Spring/Summer
& went right back to Fall..

I'm inspired right now by pansy flowers..

First, I made a sketch..
a doodle really..
 I do love to doodle..

I started with a piece of green fabric - roughly 7 1/2" x 10 1/2"
I used the same green for the back as I made the usual fabric/ batting sandwich..
Normally I would pin but because this is such a small project-
I didn't..
I started by making my vines for my flowers to sit on..
I used a lighter green thread to make the vines..
Next, I drew out the flowers & leaves...
I like odd numbers for things..
So, 5 flowers just made cents..
Then, I went on a hunt for purples..
..still hunting..
Sew, I first, cut out all my applique pieces..
then, I ironed them onto the fabric I found..
and then cut them out..
Then, I started to place them..
& when I got them just to where I wanted them..
I ironed..

But, it seemed like something was missing..
I found this fabric & decided I'd use it for my binding..

I will say...
It's not very often I use the decorative stitches on
my machine..
I used one to stitch my binding down..
But, it still seemed like something was missing from my garden..
Sew, I added buttons.. :)
I'm really happy with how it turned out..

ta da...
do you like it??

First, quickly, I'd like the thank Madam Samm & Erin for

I'm a little...

I could finish the phrase "I'm a little.."
so many words..

I'm a little ... PREGNANT..
as I head into the 23rd week of this
pregnancy..I've just started
to feel our little bean move..
I've got to say it's AMAZING...

I'm a little...MINDLESS
as I realize that I've got a
block to finish...
It's like someone keeps cancelling my
actions as I walk into a room..

I'm a little...TIRED..
with this little bean starting
to move more..
I can't say I slept a
whole lot last night..

But I will say..

I'm a little...

I used my favorite batiks.
I think I maybe the Batik Queen..

I did stitch in the 'I'm a little.. '
wanted to do it in white
but..
did you know Walmart doesn't carry embroidery floss anymore?!?
& Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays??
I didn't want to drive all over town looking
for white embroidery floss..
so.. I had to settle for pink..

I want to thank Madam Samm and Marlene for hosting
these wonderful blog hops..
I'm very thankful for both of them..

Monday February 25th
I want to thank you for stopping
& checking us out..
(but, not in a creepy way)

Gizmo & Rosie say hi too..
they have been on most days..
Curled up on my lap..
these days they seem not to go far..
like they know another little
playmate is on his way...

Happy Stitches..

My hardest project

Good Morning Ladies~

I was reflecting recently about the hardest project. We all have one. Mine so far was applique by Tony Whitney. And if asked nicely if  I would ever make another one again.. The answer would be no, unless I was paid ALOT...

Toni Whitney version- earth, wind & fire

I can across this pattern in 2009 when on a Minneapolis shop hop with my mom & sister C. The kit was much more but I love batiks & my stash was a plenty.. So after the wedding or was it before.. I think it was after I was hitched.. Hubby and I started our adventure.. He helps me so much when it comes to my quilting addiction. :) He helped trace all the little pieces onto heat&bond, helped me cut them all out & kept them organized. Then after I'd ironed them one to my fabric choices. He cut them ALL out and labeled them into plastic baggies.. When tackling a project like this, its the ONLY way to go...

my try at Earth,Wind & Fire
I know the orange horses ear is off.. been meaning to fix that.. :) I like the vibrant colors. Some day I'll quilt it.. but for now its hanging over my ironing board in my sewing room.. Along with all the other quilt blocks I have that inspire me.

Tweaking...

When I find a quilt pattern I like.. I will admit there are times I tweak the pattern.. This is one of those times.. When I got the *Simply Triangles* book I also got Kim Schaefer's *Skinny Quilts* I fell in love with the black & white one with the jack (I think they look like enmities)

I had gotten some black and whites from doing the Minnesota Shop Hop 2010. This is perfect only I did what I do best.. I tweaked.. The original plan was to make 3 different black and white background panels.. :)
Well that's not what happened..

I ended up cutting some 4 1/2" squares and sewing them between the panels.. :) I haven't yet decided if I'll do the applique on it yet.. maybe If I do It will just be a few...
What do you think? Let me know..
I need to add black borders yes.. but, I have to make a little trip to the fabric store..

Manic Monday

Reminds me of mom, me and Cindy while we are at quilt retreats..

Its been a hectic Monday.. So much to do at the Bakery.. I didn't sew yesterday..which wasn't what I had planned but you know.. such is life.. right?

So, today after looking through many of quilt magazines looking for some sort of inspiration.. Something to spark the 'I NEED TO MAKE THIS'  until, this block..  I need to sew in the vines with thread but i sketched them in.. I think I'm going to make a table runner out of it..

Yay!! Finally a WEEKEND off!!!!

Finally, after one hell of a week at the JOB.. I get a weekend off.. Oh what to do...

Day 28 of the Drop and give me 20 quilting challenge I got a little side tracked.. not by something sparkly but by an idea I'd had seen on pinterest.. Oh how I can spend hours on pinterest..   I went to the local 5&dime after work Thursday to pick out the border fabric for the Horse quilt.. The little lady who helped me was SO nice.. Armed with my fabric I headed towards the front to then get side tracked with the felt.. I saw these cute little heart bookmarks on Pinterest and thought ''I'm here, I should get this'' So...

I made myself a little template out of some cardboard and away I went..  I don't know who I'll give them too.. I know a few people who still read actual books.. not just nooks. :)  I even hand embroidered them.. something I rarely do..  They are so so cute..
Sew.. On day 27 of the Drop and give me 20 quilt challenge.. I was sitting in my sewing room in a bit of a funk.. You know what 'funk' you get into when you have things you SHOULD be doing but don't want to do them but yet don't really know what you WANT to work on???

Sew.. I went through my UFO box and found this wall hanging kit I've had FOREVER.. At first I wasn't really fond of the colors because they aren't colors that I would do.. you know? I switch out the drab purple they had in the kit for a more purple that I liked..  and started to sew, applique and quilt..

By 10ish I was done.. I even embellished it.. :) I have no idea where I'm going to put it or if it will be a gift but I got it done!!! I'm so proud of myself!! I even have a little hanger for it..

Now what to do today.. :-P I have the WHOLE day off.. Hubby it here too.. We don't have plans until this evening when we will go to T's for dinner.. I have a french silk pie to make.. if it works the Hubby will get one for his birthday coming up.. ;)

Happy sewing!!
