It's been an interesting couple of weeks with a mix of great moments and pretty awful ones. Beth and I won our first tennis match (all three sets) for the first time ever! We have been working so hard to get better and playing three to four times a week (and I've been especially frustrated at my SLOW progress), so it was nice to see some success. We were both super excited.
The biggest thing that's been occupying our hearts and minds the last two weeks is that Logan's shoulder started hurting again in baseball practice. Logan has worked so hard to heal and do all of his physical therapy exercises each morning, endured so many dr's appointments and been so patient sitting out for the last five months, that it devastated us all to say the least. There have been many heartbroken tears cried. Logan and Nick just take turns crying- or at least they did for the first week- and I just sat beside them feeling so sad myself, trying to comfort them. We took Logan back to the physical therapist, to the Rangers doctor, and then were referred to a surgeon at Scottish Rite. Logan did a second MRI this week, and tomorrow night we have a call with the surgeon to determine our plan from here. It's really been awful. Nick and I have been so sad and heartbroken for Logan, and also just really worried about the next steps for him. It's been hard.
When we left his appointment last Monday with Dr. Hendawi, the Rangers orthopedist, and found out surgery is a strong possibility, Logan cried and cried and cried. Nick was out of town, so it was just Logan and I at the appointment. I had planned to drop him off on the fifth grade field trip to Cowboy Stadium after his appointment, but I could quickly tell we needed to pivot. He was so upset and anxious and didn't want to go on the field trip. I knew in my gut he just needed a day to process and maybe have some fun. I canceled my plans for the day, texted his teacher, and we spent the day trying to take his mind off things and have some fun. We had breakfast at Eggsquisite, then went to Evo to see the Mario movie. Afterwards Logan ran a few errands with me before Beck and Everett got home from school. We had a good day together, and I was so thankful I could be there for him. It broke my heart that I couldn't take away his pain and worry (and I couldn't even begin to think about my worries because I had to stay strong for him), but at least I could be there for him. Nick and I love him so much, and it's absolutely horrible to see your kid suffering. Obviously we know there are worse things in the world, but no matter how old you are, having something you love ripped away from you twice is really hard.
Here are some happier things that have been taking up our time lately.
Kindergarten had their teddy bear picnic week, and Beck took Everett's large monkey which he named "Bob."
He was also kind enough to leave me a grocery list; cheddar goldfish, Oreos, strawberries and juice boxes.
There has been lots of baseball and lacrosse for E.
And zipping off on his bike to play at Grayson's house or play outside with the neighbors.
Football and baseball for Beck...
And scorekeeping- Beck is actually a great scorekeeper. It amazes me how he knows everything from the balls, strikes, innings, etc.
And playing school in Mr. Salomone's class.
Logan has still been hitting- and even earned the fourth spot in the lineup this week which was a huge boost for him! And playing a little left handed quarterback in football when his team is winning by a lot.
Brooks spent the night, and the last two Fridays after school he's hung out with Brooks, Andy and Owen.
Logan also had a donuts with mom one morning at Durham that was fun.
The Monday after Easter was a teacher work day. Beck went to Nixon's birthday party at Evo, Everett went to Grayson's birthday party and Tempest, and Logan and I went for a bike ride. On the bike ride we ran into some of the neighbor boys so Logan ended up riding off with them, and it was fun to watch them explore and be boys for a few minutes before I rode home. I'm grateful for the area we live in and our great neighborhood full of kids.
I am also enjoying the spring weather so much. I love all of our flowers and front porch and enjoy sitting outside most mornings and afternoons. I'm also playing a lot of tennis and enjoying F45 a couple of times a week. It's been so great to change up my workouts and go back to F45. That has given me a real boost.
Last Friday night Beth, Cara and I met to order our tennis team uniforms (we're official!) and then had dinner at Stella afterwards. It was a really fun night, and I'm so glad to be doing the tennis team with such great friends.
My emotional state the last two weeks, in a nutshell. Hoping we get some good answers from the doctor tomorrow night and all feel good about the path forward for Logan.
