After 25 days off... ( really, 13 years for me)... we are all heading back to school tomorrow! I can't believe it! But, we need a routine and to get back in the swing of things.
Also: fruits and vegetables
We finished off Christmas break with Pops in town. He was here for six days, and we had a really nice visit with him!
We checked out Pop Stroke- the Tiger Woods mini golf place, and that was a lot of fun!
Another day Ronnie, Kylee's Sephora make up artist discovery, came over and showed me some new tips and tricks. It was a lot heavier than I liked, but I have been able to use her tips and refresh some things in my make up.
That afternoon I put my make up to good use, Nick and I went to Dallas for the day. We went to North Park to shop with gift cards and return things, and then went and had a drink on the patio at Bistro 31, and the most delicious dinner at Carbonne!
Pops flew out on the Sunday the 5th, school was supposed to start the following week. After Christmas and New Years and JG's family staying a couple of days, and my dad in town for almost a week- it was nice to have some time to just relax and read.
That afternoon the boys ended up going to Ninja Kids with a group of neighborhood boys and staying for over five hours! I couldn't believe my luck! Ha! I was able to run a bunch of errands and clean the house and get it back it order. It felt so good!!
Errand buddies- Winston loved going in Container Store and was eager to meet everyone.
Lolly hates this.
The next day the boys and I had planned to go do something fun to celebrate the end of the break, but all of the neighborhood boys who were in town were all heading back to Ninja Kids to make maximum use of the monthly pass they all bought and then immediately canceled, so of course they were dying to do that instead. Not to overlook the fact that Beck is eight and getting dropped off at a jump park in NRH without an adult, something I wouldn't have let Logan do in my wildest dreams. However, between Christian, the Northcutt boys and Logan, Beck and Hayes were both just fine.
While they were ninja-ing and walking over to Sonic and meeting Jonah Heim (!), I got my closet and bathroom drawers cleaned out. It felt so good to check that off the list and start back to school with that taken care of.
Of the things I discovered when cleaning out the bathroom drawers... a Himalayan Salt Pipe from Covid times. This device was peddled as a holistic alternative in the case of a Covid emergency to help with breathing if you didn't have access to medicine. 2020 was a weird, weird time.
On Tuesday Kaylie baby sat while I had a hair appointment and finished up some last minute things for school. She took the boys to a virtual video game place I didn't even know existed and to get lunch, and they were living their best life.
Wednesday was back to work for me!! We had in service and I worked on my computer doing report cards in the office because my classroom was freezing cold. Everyone was watching the weather, knowing snow meant school likely wouldn't happen the rest of the week. While I was at school Al and Teri took the boys to lunch and The Marq and Winston had his first successful kennel stay in weeks, in his smaller kennel. It has been pretty stressful knowing that any time we leave him we were coming home to a huge mess and a dog who would need a bath. I was SO anxious about it at school, and then majorly relieved to find that the smaller kennel worked. Crisis averted!
As expected, snow showed up early Thursday morning- so Christmas vacation just kept on keeping on. Everett and Beck especially enjoyed playing outside in the snow, and we really had a nice few days. We played games, I cooked and baked a ton, read, watched movies... all the normal snow day things.
I walked over to Kylee's one day and played mahjong with Kylee and her sister, and Beck and Mark spent a lot of time back and forth between our two houses.
Loves a warm oven!
And a cabinet apparently
Logan and I got into a new game, Ticket to Ride that was so much fun!! I also finished one book and started a second.
By Saturday afternoon the snow started to melt so it was back to basketball and baseball practice, and Beck was invited to go play at Jace's. That night Nick and I went to Dallas with Beth, Tandy, Kylee and Rex for dinner at Carbonne (again! so good!). After dinner the guys went to a comedy show we had gotten them tickets for, for Christmas and we went to Mr. Charles for drinks. We also tried to go to another spot I heard about called Apothecary on Lower Greenville but it was booked and we were reminded that we are way, WAY too old to be out on Lower Greenville. We may as well have been the moms of all those kids running around.
It was such a fun, long, restful break. I'm excited for the new adventure that starts tomorrow!
