Woodware Challenge - No Paper, No Problem

The Woodware Challenge team have introduced a new feature for this week.  They will be asking their retailers with blogs to be guests and feature a project on their chosen theme for a challenge for you each month, I am the first retail guest to take part and I'm kick starting your challenge off with a no paper, no problem challenge.

I picked this theme as I very rarely use patterned papers and prefer to start with blank pieces of paper and card.  I love these images from Stampendous and wanted to do something different from the floral and butterfly stamps I originally short listed to use for my project.

I used:
Stampendous Cling Mounted Stamp CRR163 Old World Map
Stampendous Cling Mounted Stamp CRN251 Suitcase World
Artemio Clear Stamp Set - Vintage Travel Collage - 10001146
Various Stampendous Frantage Enamels, Fragments etc
Woodware Recycled A4 Card - Hairy Manilla - 15 sheets - (Rec13)
Woodware Water Colour Card Pack - 2947
Sakura Box of 24 Coloured Pencils (8805H24)
Woodware Blending Chalks (2887)
Woodware Plain Masking Tape (pack of 10 rolls, 10 metres per roll) - 25191
Woodware Roll of Wood Veneer 10cms x 8 metres (28288)

I made the 8" x 8" base card and also the two 7 3/4" panel from the Hairy Manilla card.

I used chalks on one of the panels, then added the masking tape in varying stripes/colours.  I stamped the map and suitcases randomly over the top with Stazon ink.

I only used a small torn strip on this project so I have the rest to use on other projects.

For the main background panel I used various Stampendous embossing enamels/powders.  I placed them randomly on the card and heated them from underneath (with no embossing ink or glue).  I find that pinching up the powders or using a small scoop to scatter them in small amounts helps control things a bit.  Once the powders were roughly in the random positions I carefully lifted the card to heat.  As it is a large panel it is hard to add powders with one hand so I find it best to add them before carefully lifting it.  You can always do a final tidy up with your finger before heating.

I used Aged Gold and Aged Copper enamels and the Detail Capri embossing powder (from the Teal Frantage kit)

I love the way the enamels expand and using a detail powder with them adds a different texture.  The Capri embossing powder has a very glossy glass-like finish to it.

I love the wood veneer on a roll, have you seen this yet?  It's very thin wood on a roll for decorating. The veneer is thin enough to punch and will cut with scissors.  I tore this strip off, yet again, it's random.

The roll is 8m long and is 10cm wide and 0.08mm thick.

The main panel has a mixture of elements from the Green Frantage kit along with Aged Gold and Aged Copper, some mica flakes, etc.. etc...

I tied some of the hemp cord into a knot for an embellishment.

It just needs a greeting to be added now.

Please visit the Woodware challenge page to add your entry.  I hope you will join in with the challenge and show us your work, remember, no printed papers!!!

Happy Stampers North West Show - Port Sunlight

Unfortunately we are unable to attend the show this time due to a family bereavement.  As some of you know Ian's 4th brother has battled cancer for a long time.

It is the first show we have not attended since it started so we will miss seeing everyone this time but hope to be at the next show.

A quick post with exciting news!!!!

Well it's turned out to be a very busy couple of days!!

I received a last minute request to step in and demonstrate for Stampendous at the NEC Trade Craft show this weekend, so I've been busy getting packed and have set up my demo area ready for the start of the show tomorrow for demos and make and takes and will be here at the show until Tuesday.

Then, also even more last minute, I've been asked to appear on 3 shows on Create and Craft for Stampendous on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  I don't know the times yet or exactly what I will be doing but it will be with stamps and accessories from their new catalogue.  I'll be setting off straight from the NEC show to Peterborough so quite a week ahead!!

The new designs from Stampendous are wonderful and there are new additions to the range of embossing enamels, fragments, glass glitters etc.

I will be travelling on the next part of my adventure to Create and Craft with Linelle from Dreamweaver stencils who will be appearing in her first shows on Create and Craft.  Be sure to watch her too as she is the owner of the company and has travelled over from America to share her amazing talent with her Dreamweaver stencils, pastes and other products.

I'm sure Ian will appreciate a quiet week alone at home now after the manic shopping and packing over the last couple of days!!!
