A Long Weekend

Today's Beautiful Thing is a long weekend. I took an extra day off too. A 4 day weekend for me. Yippee!!!

Family day in L.A.

Today's Beautiful Thing is spending the day with family. The hubby and I planned a successful trip to L.A. where we ate lunch at Clifton's and wandered around the garment district for the afternoon. We enjoyed checking out a bit of history and a good time was had by all.

Today's Beautiful Thing is the fun the hubby and I have had planning our day tomorrow. We are going to take his parents and aunt out shopping and to lunch. We've found Clifton's, an historic restaurant in LA, that we've always wanted to visit. It should be fun.

neighbors who care

Today's Beautiful Thing is caring for all God's creatures--even the scaly ones. A man who lives down the street was driving and he spotted a snake. He told us he didn't like snakes, but he wanted to make sure it got back to its family if it was a pet. After various menfolk inspected the snake and no one claimed it (or could care for it) animal control was called. They assured us he would find a home. Apparently snakes are always wanted (they auction them!) and never euthanized.

My iPod

Today's Beautiful Thing is my iPod. I was so excited to receive it for Christmas. I'd wanted one for a long time, but wouldn't spend the money on myself. Today I took it out and decided that I would figure out how the thing actually works once and for all. Go me! Go red iPod! :)

Update: I have 25 songs so far. More to come this weekend.

Daring to dream!

Today's Beautiful Thing is Cas Haley. I am so not a fan of reality tv, but this guy is hugely talented, nice as can be and has a beautiful smile. Cas, te hubby and I rooting for you tonight, buddy. I think you're going to win.

ETA: Cas took second place. We were really bummed. The winner was a really nice guy though, and I'm happy for him. Three cheers for all 4 finalists tonight. I wish them success.

Rutherford

Today's Beautiful Thing is my sweet kitty, Rutherford. He hasn't come home since Thursday night and we are getting worried. Come home baby.

Tangle-free

Today's Beautiful Thing is combing all the knots out of my curly hair. Yes, friends, sometimes it really is the little things that make us the happiest.

No Reservations

Today's Beautiful Thing is the movie No Reservations. We celebrated Mom's birthday tonight with dinner and a movie and we had a good time. :)

Productivity

Today's Beautiful Thing is Productivity. I got alot done at work today and that made me happy. :)

Appreciation

Today's Beautiful Thing is the feeling of accomplishment. I was asked to be on a committee for Employee Recognition at work. It went really well. Everyone had good ideas for things we could do to show employees they're appreciated and I can't wait to see which programs we'll act on first.

Generosity

Today's beautiful Thing is generosity. I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure and I told a few of my friends that I was collecting money. Jill and Darla stepped up and matched my donation immediately. Thank you ladies!

Mom

Today's Beautiful Thing is my mom, Phyllis (pictured L to R: Yoko, Robin, me & Mom). Today is her birthday and I am so grateful we've shared another year together. Happy Birthday Mom!

10 Pounds

Today's Beautiful Thing is losing 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Go me!

OCC

Today's Beautiful Thing is OCC, my local RWA Chapter. I've missed the last three month's meetings and I'm anxious to see my friends today.

Update: NONE of my friends were there today. In 7 years, this has never happend. But the good thing is that a chapter sister told me I would look pretty on a book jacket. Wasn't that a Beautiful Thing to say? :)

Pretty things

Today's Beautiful Thing is having pretty new things to wear. I've gained some weight (ok, so that's not beautiful) but I've decided not to punish myself. It makes me feel ugly to wear old tight clothes so, I bought some pretty new dresses that flatter, along with some great new shoes. I've been dieting for nearly 3 weeks and I've lost 10 pounds. (Weigh-in day is Sunday. We'll see) Treating yourself with respect is a Beautiful Thing too.

Today's Beautiful Thing is bittersweet--spending time with Bubba. He's picking fights with Lulu, so he can't stay. We are sad because he's such a great dog in every other way. He goes back on Sunday, and we are making the most of our time with him. (Look at how cute they are together in the picture above. Sad that he can't stay. So sad.)

Lady Kenpo Nikita

Today's Beautiful Thing is Lady Kenpo Nikita, our sweet Kiki. This is the one year anniversary of her death and we are left with nearly 12 years of Beautiful memories. I love you, Niki and will see you in heaven.

Dotti's Weight Loss Zone

Today's Beautiful Thing is Dotti's Weight Loss Zone, a wonderful resource for dieters. My favorite part of the website is Restaurant calorie list. Since I started counting calories 11 days ago, there have been a couple of times I had to eat out at restaurants not known for healthy food. I visited Dotti's site before I went and wrote down the best choices, ate half the meal, and was able to stick to my low calorie/low fat diet. Thanks Dotti!

Nightly Walk

Today's Beautiful Thing is our nightly walk. When we first started walking every night (again) I wasn't very enthusiastic. Now I enjoy it just as much as Lulu does.
