Today's Beautiful Thing is today itself--Leap Year Day! Just the thought of Leap Year Day makes me smile. Anything that makes me smile with so little effort, is a Beautiful Thing indeed.

Buffet Today!

Today's Beautiful Thing is the Chinese buffet down the street. It's a little old place that probably hasn't been redecorated since the sixties (we like the kitchiness of it), but there are tons of items I like (I'm picky with my Asian food), the price is right, and I didn't have to cook (the chicken was still frozen). A win-win-win situation. :)

Bully Buddies

Today's Beautiful Thing is having a buddy. Lulu and Ace get along so well now. It's just amazing to watch them together.

Hang Loose

Today's Beautiful Thing is loose-fitting pants. All the pants I bought for my job (when I first got hired 4 1/2 years ago) are no longer just right, too tight, or too small--they're actually baggy. Since my hips are the last place I lose weight, this is Beautiful news indeed.

New Website

Today's Beautiful Thing is finding a new website. I've enjoyed spending time at the BellaOnline Forums this weekend. Stop by. There's a lot of nice people there!

Gelato

Today's Beautiful Thing is a spoonful of tiramisu-flavored gelato. While I am not usually a fan of tiramisu, I am a fan of any flavor of gelato. The heavenly flavor brought back fond memories of our trip to Florence.

Connections

Today's Beautiful Thing is having a nice conversation with a good friend. I got home from work late, but it was worth it.

Easy Does It!

Today's Beautiful Thing is the El Pollo Loco drive-thru. I was able to pick up a healthy dinner and still got home on time to watch the debate. :)

Cory

Today's Beautiful Thing is my friend Cory--the most awesome, loving, supportive, hard-working, kick-ass woman I've ever met. She wears many hats: wife, friend, sister, daughter, writer, and mother. It is a Beautiful Thing to witness how hard she fights for her kids every single day. I couldn't think of a better person to help me celebrate my 400th post. Love to you sweetie.

I can see clearly now...

Today's Beautiful Thing is nearly perfect vision. I had my annual eye exam today--it's been 2 years since I had Lasik--and my vision is between 20/20 and 20/25. For a girl who used to have 20/475 vision, that's a very Beautiful Thing!

Cozy

Today's Beautiful Thing is stepping out of a hot bath and putting on warm, just-from-the-dryer fleece PJs. I feel all warm and cozy.

holiday weekend

Today's Beautiful Thing is a long weekend. I was a little sad when I realized I didn't get everything done today--and then I realized we're off tomorrow too. Woo hoo!

Dinner with Friends

Today's Beautiful Thing is dinner with friends at a fun and funky restaurant. J & D moved away a few months ago, but every time they come to visit, we meet them for dinner. It's so nice to see them again.

Interesting

Today's Beautiful Thing is an interesting workshop. I'm a shy person, so workshops often stress me out. But I enjoyed working in small groups and learning more about some of my workmates I don't see on a daily basis.

Today's Beautiful Thing is Love. Happy Valentine's Day!

(Lulu's eyes are all shiny because we'd just put her allergy ointment in them. Ace has a chunk of food on his head because he'd just dived head-first into his bowl. Such messy, yet loving pups we have.)

Kind Words

Today's Beautiful Thing is a kind word from a workmate. Someone told me I looked skinny today. I know I'm not skinny, but it was really nice to hear.

Today's Beautiful Thing is Avon "Totally Twig" color lipstick. I like the color--a medium brown with pinkish and gold tones--because it goes with just about everything. I just found out it's been discontinued, but Michele has just become an Avon Lady, so she's going to order me some. :)

Today's beautiful Thing is a cup of icecream after a long day at work. Vons (Safeway) brand low fat icecream is nearly as good as Dryer's Grand Light and it was buy one get one free. I bought fudge brownie and peppermint, which happen to go really well together. :)

Shopping!

Today's Beautiful Thing is shopping for new, smaller clothes. I bought five new tops for work--two sweaters, two button-up shirts and a cute blouse--all size medium. I kept trying on larges, but they were too big. Yeah!

100 little calories

Today's Beautiful Thing is Hostess 100 Calorie Muffins. I bought the blueberry flavor. They are so good! The crumbly muffin top tastes really fattening! Try some. You'll be happy you did. :)

Lunch with Friends

Today's Beautiful Thing is lunch with friends. Three of us had lunch downtown, at the cutest little sandwich shop/bakery, and dined alfresco. It was such a lovely day, we didn't want to go back to the office. :)

I googled "lunch with friends" to find for a photo for today's post. The little play set above is actually called lunch with friends. Is it cute or what?

Cards and Gifts

Today's Beautiful Thing is the simple pleasure of wrapping gifts and writing a card for a special friend. I love the way the gift bags, tissue, ribbons, wrapping paper, and the card envelope coordinate in many fun colors.

CNN

Today's Beautiful Thing is CNN's Election coverage. The hubby and I are political junkees, and we enjoyed watching the late-night coverage.

Yum!

Today's Beautiful Thing is a leftover piece of cake from the hubby's birthday party Saturday night. It was 4 layers of cherry and chocolate cake, with 3 layers of cherry and fudge filling, and a lovely white buttercream icing. Heaven!

Sugar & Spice

Today's Beautiful Thing is the sweetness of children. In the parking lot at the grocery store, a little girl called out to me, "I love your hair."

I replied, "I like your hair too."

She pulled a piece out from either side of her head, "It's blond."

"It's very pretty," I told her.

Her sister, the cutest little redhead, popped her head around the side of their car and held pieces of her hair out for my inspection.

"I like your hair too," I told her.

She giggled.

Her little blond sister blew me a kiss.

My heart melted all over the parking lot.

Today's Beautiful Thing is our little fairy princess. She wears her tiara, wings and wand oh so well. :)

A New Candidate

Today's Beautiful Thing is channeling sadness into hope. While I will always wonder what the world would have been like with John Edwards as president, I can't wallow in those thoughts forever. We visited the Barack Obama campaign headquarters and talked with his enthusiastic volunteers. I must admit, their excitement is infectious. We now have new bumper stickers on our cars, buttons on our lapels, as as well as a sign on our front lawn. Go Obama!
