More Op Art Drawings

Inspiration: Got the idea from this great tutorial from Jacquelien at Kids Artists.

Some of my grade fours have been working on these as they finish other projects. We kept ours flat, mounted them on coloured card and laminated them.

Op Art Cubes

Thanks to Jacquelien from Kids Artists for this idea
Also the work of English Op Artist Bridget Riley (1931-).  Image: Bridget Riley, 'Descending' 1965.

As a change from my usual Op Art inspired lesson I gave this grade 5/6 class a cube net upon which they had to draw optical illusions on the six sides of the cube. Some chose to do each side the same, others did each side differently. They outlined and coloured these in mostly black and white designs although some chose to use colour.

Op Art Drawings

Older students always seem to really enjoy Op Art. After looking at some of Bridget Riley's paintings, my grade 7s created their own Op Art inspired work by drawing overlapping circles onto their page with a compass and then drawing a grid of either straight, diagonal or curved lines over the top of their circles. They then chose two contrasting colours and coloured their design in a checkered pattern.
