Amazing story and today's date - A calendrical sequence

I have just about finished reading a book called A Long Way Home written by an Indian born Tasmanian young  man called Saroo Brierley.

I first saw Saroo's story featured in a  Sixty Minutes Story on TV in June of this year. It is a truly remarkable life story on all counts.
Saroo also has a Facebook page and there are many more stories on that for you to look at.

As it is the 11/12 /2013 already here in Australia it is a special date when you look at the numbers in sequence 11/12/13.  This is called a calendrical sequence.

Today is the last time this century the date lines up in consecutive order. Of course this type of calendar sequence only occurs 11 times a century.

The next sequence will not be until 1 February 2103 for the dates to line up again when the date will be 1/2/03

Project Roundup and Another Heirloom Christmas Stocking tutorial

I have been working on Part 2 of  Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice Mystery 2013. This week I needed to make 244 of these chevron units. There are 6 pieces in each so doing the maths that is 244 x 6 = 1464 pieces I have cut. It will take me most of the week to make these units in preparation for the release of Part 3 on Friday night my time.

You can see what others are doing in this mystery by going to Bonnie's Link-Up Party page.

Block 3 in the Graceful BOM has been sent out this morning to all who have signed up to receive this. Just a reminder to those participating to download the remainder of the free designs from the BFC website if you have not already done so before they are removed to be put on sale.

I have also uploaded the tutorial for the Heirloom Stocking with a lace shaped heart that I taught on Saturday morning at Stewart's Sewing Machine Centre.

You can download the tutorial from here. If you already have the stocking pattern you do not need to download another but if you have not downloaded it you can find it here.

You can also download the previous stocking tutorial from here if you do not have it.

Some pics of projects to share

Saturday morning we had another heirloom sewing class and this time the students were making one of the heirloom inspired stockings I designed. Each was completely different due to the fabric that was chosen for the stocking front and back.

I will be putting the tutorial for this stocking up on my blog tomorrow for download.
Lorraine has sent me a pic of her  Floral Sketches quilt

Allison has also sent in some pics of a couple of the Sassy Cats Blocks she has done in the Sassy Cats BOM.

It was quite unusual on Saturday night to see an adult penguin looking out of his man made burrow well before dark and I was able to take these three pics

Good news today

I have had lots of good news today. After my Mum had a mammogram call back we had two day of exhausting tests and travel at the beginning of this week. Today my Mum got the all clear from her tests so that was great news to receive. Can I say that the Breast Screen service here in Tasmania along with their staff are just so supportive and caring.

And it looks as though  the little penguins rescued from the tallow in the truck rollover may have been found by their parents and gone back into their care. The concrete igloo like structures are artificial burrows that are provided for them.

I have finally got this pic from my husband's iPad of the canvas print I had made for my daughter's spare room. If you remember correctly it was an image I exported from Embird and then uploaded to a  firm to have printed. The  giraffe design is one of the embroidery designs in the Giraffe BOM quilt of mine on the bed. The designs re by BFC Creations. I would have taken a pic of the whole room but I was not there to give instructions!

Another Block

I have sent out Block 2 in the BFC Graceful Block of the Month. I am really liking the colours the piece of fabric chose for me. Make sure that you keep collecting these free designs from BFC Creations for another three days.

I have also completed the first row of the BFC Sassy Cats  BOM, with Block 6  being a row of pinwheel blocks. I will write up the tutorial for Block 6 and send that out later on tonight.

Baby penguins in a spot of bother

On Tuesday a truck carrying tallow rolled on the highway near the penguin colonies along Lillico Beach where we do our penguin interpretation guiding each Saturday night. The truck did not roll near the platform but it did roll near some baby penguin burrows. Three baby penguins were rescued by local wildlife rangers and given a bath by a local vet.

They were  later rehoused in new man made burrows near their original home to await the return of their parents from their daily trip out to sea fishing for their food. Fingers crossed the little families are reunited again. Priority has been given to rebuilding the little fence that prevents the penguins from moving onto the highway. If the fence was not there many penguins would be killed as they would try to move up into the surrounding farmland on the other side of the road.

Project Update

I have finally finished my 380 blocks which is the first instalment of Bonnie Hunter's new mystery called Celtic Solstice. I am changing my colours to what she is using. Where I have my hot pink Bonnie s using orange and her blues are not quite as bright as my aqua shades. Bonnie is also using neutrals where I am using my favourite black and white colour way. I am going for brights as I will more than likely give this away to a young person and they love the more bright colours. I always have thread hanging off my finished units no matter how much I trim them. I am just so messy.
If you wish to join Bonnie's Mystery head on over to her blog and click on the Celtic Solstice tab at the top of her page. You can catch up on what other people are doing on this page.

I have just sent out Block 5 in the  Sassy Cats BOM. Block 6 will just be a large pieced block as it needs to join onto  the other blocks to date.
