Your Compass by Cheetarah

Hi VLVS! lovers, it's Cheetarah here and I'm thrilled to be back as a guest designer this term. I hope the new year has started off well for you.

Today I would like to share an art journal page. It's inspired by this wonderful quote from Cat Kerr which is a stamp in the awesome VLVS! quotes range. It says "let fear be your compass, if it scares you, move forward." I think it's a bad-ass bold statement and definitely aligns with my new year's intention not to back away from new things even though they might scare me at first.

I have a washi tape that suits this theme also perfectly which says "you are here" and the dancing lady on top of it is moving towards unknown scary territories. The background has yummy mixed media stamps which is embossed gold over a black background. When you move the page in the light though, you get some interesting effects.

You can see an array of color (possibilities) when you shift the page into the light, which is made with the use of interference paints. While I was making this page I had the camera on so you can see the process of it in the video below.

Hope this inspired you to take out your VLVS! stamps and do a bit of art journaling.
Have an awesome day.

FINDING MY WAY ► Majo

Hello crafty friends!

It’s my turn today to show you the beautiful butterfly stamp along with all the other images on my project.

This time I decided to make a ticket card. The ticket is a die from Studio Light, a Dutch manufacturer. Even though this die is meant to be folded together I liked it better this way.

I started by cutting the panels from cardstock, the smallest one is watercolor paper so I was able to spritz water on it.

After adhering the two larger layers together with miracle tape, I set them aside and started working on the smallest one.

I swiped a Distress ink pad (Fossilized Aber) over the paper and added drops by splashing water with a brush which I dipped in different colors of distress oxides. I used Broken China, Worn Lipstick and once again Fossilized Amber.

After stamping the beautiful butterfly and all the other stamps for the background texture, I cut some flowers from paper I had in my stash and added some coordinating colors. A sentiment finishes my ticket card.

 I used the following stamps:
You are beautiful 19832 from plate 1471

I also used Miracle Tape, Studio Light STENCILSL99, Sizzix Wildflowers 661190
 and Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Cardstock.

Thank you for stopping over, Happy Crafting

I wish you all a wonderful time until Christmas!

Holiday Cheer ► Majo

Hi folks, with Christmas just around the corner, I decided to finally start my card making for this year.

Today I'd like to show you a technique I recently discovered and I just knew I would love to try this.

It’s called "Watercolor Smooshing" and it allows you to play with so many colors on top of each other.

I used Watercolor Paper because it will hold up to lots of water, an acrylic stamp block, a Distress Sprayer and of course, many Distress Oxide inks. I tapped the first color (Cracked Pistachio) on to the acrylic block, spritzed with water, smooshed my panel around a little and left it there to allow the ink to be absorbed into the paper. I dried the panel with a heat tool. This is very important, or you will end up with a muddy mess.

I repeated these steps with the other colors (Worn Lipstick, Tumbled Glass and Fossilized Amber), making sure again to dry each layer of ink before using the next.

I diluted the colors even more and used a brush to create the splatters. Again it is very important to dry the splatters right away to prevent the colors absorbing into the background.

I stamped my panel with the “Holiday Cheers” stamp in different colors. The word my dream is from the Banksy sentiment “This was not my dream”, which I stamped on black cardstock and heat embossed with Stampendous Detail White embossing powder.

I cut the snowflake with a Sizzix Die, designed by Tim Holtz. It’s almost Christmas time, so I added some sparkle to my card with several rhinestones.

I used the following stamps:

8603
20066

Miracle Tape

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and I hope to see you around next time!

Happy Crafting ♥

Birthday Card ► Majo

Good morning, dear crafty friends.

Today I'd like to show you a birthday card I made for a close friend.

I stuck to her favorite colors and decided since it's her 60th birthday, it should be something special. I know she adores butterflies, so of course I used one on the card.

I started by applying gesso with a stencil.

I added Distress Spray Stain in different colors, making sure to dry each layer in between. I wiped the paint off the raised parts.

After I stamped my sentiment, I added more stamping on the background for some texture.

I cut the butterfly with a Sizzix Movers & Shapers die and applied the same colors Distress Spray Stain. After distressing the edges I adhered it with glue dots. In order to let the butterfly have some antennas, I used a butterfly stamp, which I then covered with the die cut.

Here are some close ups of the background ....

I adhered the panel to a black card base with miracle tape.

I have used the following stamps:

I also used:

Distress Spray Stain
Movers & Shapers - Butterfly
Stencil
Gesso

Thanks so much for joining me here today, you all have a wonderful time and Happy Crafting ♥
