Hello Sweet Evil | Sue Plumb

Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. Today I am sharing a mixed media scrapbook layout I created with some of the creepy stamps from the most recent release and a photo of my sister and I dressed up for a "bad taste" theme night. 

I began my layout with a sheet of white heavyweight cardstock, and created a watercolour style background using Distress Oxides. I did this by swiping the ink pads on my craft mat then spritzing with water, before laying the cardstock over the top to absorb the ink. I did this first with 'Iced Spruce' then dried it off and repeated the process with 'Carved Pumpkin'.

Once I had my background colour in place, it was time to add some stamping! I started with the Palmistry Palm, which I stamped over the top of the Distress Oxides.

I then stamped the Pirassoipi Bicorn and the Poison Caution stamps onto my background as well, using black StazOn ink again.

Once I had the stamping done, it was time to add my focal image, which was the photo of my sister and I that I had cut out. I mounted the image onto some scrap cardboard to help pop it up from the page.

To embellish my page, I stamped out the Cross Statue stamp three times onto some black cardstock using embossing ink, then heat embossed the images using gold embossing powder.

I then fussy cut around the crosses and added them to my page around the base of my photo.

Next, it was time for my title. I love a mixed font title, so I used a Kinder Kreations chipboard word hello, which I also embossed with gold embossing powder; then the wood veneer word sweet from Corbett Creations; and then some Cocoa Vanilla Studio alpha stickers.

To add a little extra detail to finish off my page, I used the Sky of Stars Background stamp to add a few little stamped stars, then added a some wood veneer stars that I had coloured black with a Sharpie. I also added some small gold mist splatters.

She Was a Wildflower - Art Journal Page | Sue Plumb

It's Sue Plumb here with my latest design team project for you. Today I have a simple, but fun, art journal page to share that I created using a variety of stamps; Distress Oxides; a Sharpie; watercolour pencils and inks.

I began my page with an A4 sized sheet of white cardstock and Distress Oxides in the colours of Twisted Citron and Cracked Pistachio. I began using a foam blender to apply the Twisted Citron to an area in the centre of my page. I then blended some of the Cracked Pistachio into it to give it some extra depth.

Once I had the colour down, I grabbed the Doodle flower/garden stamp to form the base of my focal image. I then stamped Skull stamp on top of one of the flower stems so it appeared as though it were growing in the garden.

I then used the Row of scribble circle/eyes to add "flowers" to the tops of the remaining stems.

I then added some extra detail by using a Sharpie to doodle some "petals" and also to add some grass amongst the bottom of the stems.

Next, I took the Striped pattern circle and stamped it out onto some extra white cardstock. I then fussy cut around the image before using watercolour pencils to colour it, and then blended it out with a water brush.

I then stuck the flower I had made onto the skull (like a flower in her hair). 

With the flower in place it was time to add my sentiment. I chose the She was a wildflower stamp and placed it alongside the skull.

I then added a little extra detail to my background by splattering some inks around the page using a small brush. I used 13Arts Ayeeda Ink in white and Colour Blast Colour Artist Ink in Slipper.

To finish off, I used the Sky of stars background to add some fine stamped detail.

Clowning Around | Sue Plumb

It's Sue Plumb here to share my latest VLVS design team project with you. Today I have a fun mixed media scrapbook layout to share that I created to document a couple of silly SnapChat selfies of my sister and I. (We just love clowning around! hehe)

To create this page I started with an A4 sized sheet of cardstock; then I mixed some Dina Wakley acrylic paints (I used a combination of 'Night' and 'Lapis') to get the right shade I wanted for my background. I applied it roughly using a spatula and set it aside to dry.

Whilst it was drying, I chose some stamps for my background. I wanted to continue the confetti theme from the photos and have the patterns cascading down the page, which I also planned to stamp using acrylic paint. 

I started with the Grunge Circles, which I stamped using 'Ruby' paint repeatedly down the page. I then used the Sky of Stars Background stamp with 'Cheddar' paint and followed the same line down the page.

I then switched to midnight blue ink and stamped the Smiley Face and Somebody Stop Me.

To go with the theme of my page, I stamped out a few images from plate #1383 designed by Mary Vogel Lozinak - Unicycle Lady; Man in Short Pants; and Director. I coloured each of the images using markers and then fussy cut around them. I also stamped the All Circuses quote. 

I added some frayed gauze to my page before adding my photos on top with the quote stuck along the bottom edge.

I then stuck the little characters across my page using foam tape to give them a bit of dimension. 

To finish off I added some scattered sequins for a bit of sparkle and I was done!

Always Be a Mermaid | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share a sweet little project I created recently for my daughter, and it's in stark contrast to my previous project share which featured my "zombie" cat. This time I opted for a small scale project - working on an index card, which fits perfectly into a small 6x4" frame that can then go into my daughters bedroom.

I started by applying a light coat of gesso all over the card, before using Faber-Castell gelatos to add some colour. I used a moist baby wipe to blend each colour, mixing the 3 colours together, but concentrating on having the darkest tone around the outer edge to border it. Once I was happy with the colour, I set it aside to dry.

I then took the Cat Mermaid stamp, which was to be my focal image, and stamped it onto some white cardstock using Staz On ink. I again used my gelatos to add colour; this time by adding a little to my craft mat and then using a water brush to pick up the colour so I could colour my image.

I then turned my attention back to my index card, using the gorgeous Sky of Stars Background stamp and Ranger Archival ink to add a whimsical touch. I also used the Scribble Heart stamp to add a little love.

Next, I fussy cut around my cat mermaid; before stamping the quote using the Always Be Yourself/Mermaid stamp onto cardstock. I again used a gelato to add some colour, then fussy cut the quote into two pieces.

Now it was time to construct my piece. I started by adding a small paper doily to the centre of the card, topped with some messy cotton thread, then added my cat mermaid on top.

I then added the two pieces of the quote above and below the cat.

For a bit of extra whimsy, I finished my piece with a sprinkle of sequins.

This was a super fun little project to make. I must admit that I wasn't really used to creating pieces on such a small scale when I began working on this team; but my amazing VLVS teamies inspired me to give it a go and now I love creating these delicate little pieces!

"Space Girl" Mail Art | Sue Plumb

Sue Plumb here today to share my project for Mail Art Monday. 

I recently held a giveaway on my Sue Plumb Designs Facebook page to celebrate {inter}National Scrapbook Day and needed to post the prize out to the lucky winner. Of course I didn't want to send a boring old box, so I took the opportunity to bust out some mail art and make the package a bit more exciting when it was received.

 I recycled a pizza box I had previously received scrapbooking supplies in so I had some details on the front I had to cover up first; which I did quickly by roughly applying some Colour Blast black heavy gesso with a wide brush. I then cut an 8x8" piece of cardstock to use for my address label and stamped out my design.

I was dying to use one of the Space Girl stamps designed by Katy Paltridge (daughter of Fiona) from the new release plate #1501, and I chose some complimentary stamps to use along with it. I used the word Starbound and also the rows of stars which were both from the astrologically themed new release plate #1500. The final stamp I chose was the Sky of Stars Background, which has been one of my recent favourites on high rotation. 

I then used a selection of Faber-Castell watercolour pencils and a water brush to add some colour to my images. (Using watercolour pencils is one of my favourite colouring methods for stamps - quick, easy, accurate, and I love the look of them.)

Once I had added all the colour, I adhered my label to the box using Miracle Tape and then used a white Sharpie pen to add some detail to give it a "galaxy" type appearance.

Then it was simply a matter of adding the recipient details to my label and sealing over it with clear packaging tape to protect it.

Ray of Sunshine | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here with my latest design team project with you. Today I have a 12x12" mixed media scrapbook page I created to share, featuring a stamp-filled background and a photo of my daughter at her sunshiney best! haha

To create my page, I started with some white cardstock (I use Bazzill Card Shoppe cardstock in 'Marshmallow' - I find this best for applying wet media.) I added a wash of grey colour using Colour Blast 'Stormy Weather' Colour Shimmer Spray, which I poured into a cup and applied with a wide brush.

I needed to give my page some structure (and given the theme of this page was about capturing photos) I used the Film Strip stamp to apply some horizontal and vertical lines to draw the eye to the focal area of my page using Staz On ink.

I wanted to add a supporting focal image to compliment my photo, so I chose the Whimsical Horned Boy. I already had this image stamped out on some tissue paper, so I used some matte medium to apply it to my page.

I kept building my background by stamping the Evidence Label stamp near the top of my page (I can see this stamp is going to get a workout from me); and then I added two Deathhead Moths (they matched the death stare my daughter was giving me). I also had these on tissue paper, so I used matte medium again to apply them.

My background was really starting to take shape now, so it was time to add some finer details. I reached for my Sky of Stars Background stamp to add some visual interest around the page. My page also needed a title and I knew EXACTLY which stamp I wanted to use for it - I Am A Ray. I stamped it out multiple times around my page (just to make sure I got the message across!)

Now it was time to add a splash of colour to my page. I used a Faber-Castell watercolour pencil to add some red around the edges of my moths, as well as to the cheek and lips of my horned boy before blending it out with a water brush.

I also added a couple of scribbles that I didn't blend.

Now it was time to work on the focal area of my page and add some texture. I used a mini paper doily; torn tissue paper; some tiny gold star punchinella and frayed gauze to create a mat for my photo. 

I cut around my daughter in the photo to get rid of the background and added some cardboard to the back to pop it up before adding it on top of my layers using Miracle Tape. I also added some extra gold touches to my page using torn pieces of washi tape and gold sequins. 

I added some small splatters of Colour Blast 'Sunburnt' Colour Artist Ink and then my handwritten journalling. I complimented my journalling with the What We Have Here stamp. (A perfect finishing touch!)

The final addition to my page was a handmade chevron embellishment from Charms Creations, to help draw the eye to my photo.
