I hate having entries like this one exist, especially after the bath and alcohol I end up feeling much better, but this was the state I was in when I wrote it, so while I may edit to the moon, I shall not delete it and I shall attempt to keep most of it the same for prestige: I wanted to have a night where I drank and sat in the bath and tried to just forget about the world. Sadly, the only thing we have in the house is sherry cooking wine. That stuff tastes horrendous cause it has extra salt. I'm seriously tempted to have another cup or two though, cause that's where I am at. I'm just worried about well, lots of things. This is the fake smile I'm presenting: |:(#) Totally Fake! and after realization... my smile is a bit like this: $%-> } (and that doesn't make any sense, I know) I'm still gonna kick ass Saturday though, I'll be funny and silly and all that good stuff that I'm known for. Also maybe I'll do stuff I'm not known for... although some many know me for being dapper and/or cordial. That's a rare thing, but it happens. I think I'm gonna drink some more of that sherry, get the bath nice and hot and lie in and be like this guy in a bit. Okay, I won't! No one get in a panic there... I won't be like Marat de Sade! Instead I'll be like this guy... |

Well, I haven't written much in terms of anything pertinent. This will be no different this time around. I'm writing about music right now. First up links to info about new albums that will probably blow me away that are coming out or in the case of the third, just came out: Bobby Bare, Jr's Young Criminals' Starvation League - From the End of Your Leash - a second "solo effort" from the man behind the band Bare, Jr. and a musical genius in many ways. LIT- self-titled - it's been almost four years since Atomic, Lit's junior effort and follow-up to their major "We are MTV Darlings" album A Place in the Sun. Now the brothers have gone out to produce and distribute themselves. Jay Farrar - Stone, Steel & Bright Lights - former lead singer for Son Volt releases his third full length effort, great acoustic rock. For more info on these three I suggest the following links: Bobby Bare Jr. Official site Official LIT site Jay Farrar Official website Two albums that I have heard (and don't start asking how!): Velvet Revolver - (Contra)band: Scott, Saul, Duff, Izzy & Dave came together to really rock this shit out. While I'd still LOVE to one day hear some of the work that was created with Josh Todd & Izzy Stradlin or the tracks recorded with former Neurotica frontman Kelly Shaefer, what came from the final version of "The Project" is awesome. A "The Project" compiliation CD would be really sweet sometime though. Miss Kittin - I Com: This little spitfire DJ originally from the Alps makes some lovely electronica. This may be the closest we'll get to New Wave in this decade probably, but if this is the closest we'll get, this is pretty damn good. Also, like any really kick ass female musical artist, she's absolutely adorable. If you want to get a feel for her, you can download this mp3. |

Hey, Did Ronald Reagan die or something? I can't believe the monkey died. :( Oh wait, he was the human and he led California and the US to hell with jobs. Oh well...I hear Danny Devito's Twin Brother who's also an android from the future got that job now and some guy who does some stuff like coke and have trouble speaking got the other now. yes, I know that wasn't even the slightest bit funny... do I give a shit? No, so fuck you bitch, I'll cut you! Okay, I started chanting REAGAN! REAGAN! at the T.V., turns out it was about D-Day Festival. I wish Bedtime for Bonzo was on somewhere. |

The old jewish comedian was a disappointment. While he can still be biting and hard and do insult humor and his political commentary is strong, if slightly disagreeable, lots of his material, word usage and style is really not for an audience under the age of 60. Maybe even older? An audience over 60 who still think it's 1960 and says/thinks "Those damn hippies, they can do what they want, it doesn't bother me, but don't bring it to my town!" (my lord that was a long sentence). I'm really kinda upset that Jackie Mason wasn't better. I was hoping for a fun filled afternoon of good, hilarious comedy. I didn't get that though. This is the show he's planning to bring to Broadway. I can't see it staying open long. His last Broadway show, a musical, got panned. This time I don't think he'll get panned, but after all the old conservatives spend $50-$100 bucks to laugh at the same jokes they probably make to each other at home and laugh at even though we'd be sitting at the kitchen table and thinking "My family are a bunch of racist, bigoted, jerk-off assholes" delivered with much less seriouness to make them almost funny, go see him, what then? Tonight there's a new Arrested Development though at 8:30 PM EST. That should make up for the time spent seeing Mason. I'll say this, he seems like a very sweet man. His delivery is flawless. It's just the material made me either groan and be completely indifferent. I am not his audience, and really, even when I'm over 60, I don't think I ever will be. He's much more fun/funnier either on TV or in book form I guess. Well, good TV hopefully and other fun online possibly, depending on my mood and what I find and whatever will make me feel okay about this ugly weather, lack of laughter day. |

-ianbrill weeks back or whatever, maybe just a week ago posted a link to this Entertainment Weekly rejected Pekar/Crumb comic in which Harvey heavily endorses the music by Billy Bragg & Wilco and lyrics written by Woody Guthrie project- Mermaid Ave., picked those up nice and cheap... both volumes. They are pure just tantalzing magic, pure folk rock with energy and brilliance. They just POP out the speakers with bustling guitar, extremely strong drums and stellar vocals assisted by written material of one of the greatest singer/songwriters to ever grace the universe. -My godniece Brianna said hello to me by name, shes only two and only sees me once every two weeks AT BEST, so for her to finally attach my name and face and say hello before I do is just wonderful. Better yet I can have practically full conversations with her. We talked about her pola dot green dress. It's a pretty cool dress. I dropped off an invite to my show to Pam & Colin while I was there as well. -I also dropped off tons of fliers all over the city, soon to send out e-mails and hit Craig's list and LJ newsgroups and all that. -So I see this girl maybe 50 feet ahead and I'm like... damn... who's that? So, 25 feet in I notice it's a friend of mine (shut up, I need glasses and will get them soon). I go to give her five, and she's "What are you doing? I was coming in for a hug". Caught me off guard. Anyway, I gave her one... it was just weird, because last time I gave her a hug she reacted strangely, but this time, she was bothered when she came in for a hug and I didn't realize. It's always nice to be reminded who cares about you and while you may not notice the signs, I'll try harder now. *smiles* -In just 10 minutes I have to get out of here to go see Jackie Mason... and I'm front row center! |

Still in a funk, but I decided to sit down with the guitar today and do some recording. The first track is harsh noise, a "song" I titled "Burn the Children Allah". It used four elements of sound to create what is meant to be a ritual sacrifice and prayer session in some Middle Eastern state. It can be considered either present, past or future. That is your own conveyance. Maybe you'll gain something different than the original intention. I am particularly proud of my maniacal laughter at the end of the 4 minutes of insanity and chanting. You can download the track off a section of my still (and eventually) to be reawakened website. Right-click and save as or whatever MAC/Linux users have to do: http://www.popculturespectrum.com/music/b The second track is based on some of my experiences of recent times, with quite a bit of fiction or retelling or re-visioning of events to make the song work better. The sentiments in them are still quite true and I'd like to carry the feelings that created them onto whatever my next experience/relationship shall be. A note on the recording, this is the fifth attempt, the guitar had gotten pretty out of whack at this point and I was being continually interrupted while recording. I ended up just saying fuck it, and taking this fifth recording and surrendering to the gods in understanding this was just to get this one out there and heard by ears other than mine. Although I know I could do better, I really no longer have the energy, space or skills to get the guitar to sound the way I'd like or to be able to do the vocals the way they should without getting stopped every minute. Instructions same as above: http://www.popculturespectrum.com/music/t ( Click here for lyrics ) |

I've just been in one of those type of miserable moods all day. One of those "There's no point to it all" situations, where you feel like the world revolves for no purpose and your existence serves nothing. Of course we ALL know in the full scheme of things this is true, it's not good when you really start feeling in such a manner. Especially when it's beautiful weather and there's plenty to look forward to. Especially when there's plenty to be happy about, it's just a pisser of a day when all your brain can do is concentrate on all the crap and leave you a stupid ugly funk. I feel like my head has been slammed into a wall and then summarily dropped on a cement floor. I get up only to meet a chairshot, bleed, and mope back the dressing room where all I can do is get in car and drive to the next town to it all over again, all for just a small smattering of applause and no time to bask, because I need stitches nightly. I just want to laugh at this feeling. I know there's not a need for it, but sometimes it just attacks. It comes in sneakily like the virus that hit me on Sunday and that's been running its course since then. I've been sleeping excessively, sneezing and just feeling generally blah. There's a chance I caught Nick's cold on top of being out in the not perfect weather on the sand on Sunday as well. Laughing hurts actually because my body is just so weak. I'll live though. I have the fliers to hand out, I have a show to prepare for. I know within a day or two I'll be excited about it again. I'd wish just getting the random phone call would cheer me up. It didn't though. It was pleasant and good to have, but it didn't change my mood in the least. It didn't make change a thing. I know it should've and any other time, it probably would've or maybe it needed to be someone else, I don't know. Right at this moment I just wanna say fuck it all. I just wish I could fly. Maybe like this guy: mojo_iv disapproves of Mon-El, the distant cousin of Superman who was freed from the Shadowzone who I have no idea if even fits in current DC continuity as I haven't read a LSH book in years... so here are some other suggestions for flying folks to be like: From left to right that is Captain Marvel, also known as Shazam, also known as The Big Red Cheese. Miracleman, who shall finally see the light proper again soon and Maximortal, the creation of Rick Veitch who drew issues of Miracleman and still created this parody based on him, Superman, Shazam and other "demi-god" like characters. (I like how I can still be nerdy as all hell and be in a horrible mood at the same time... maybe the two go hand in hand? Things to ponder on... but not now... I got people to beat up on a TV screen!) |

I changed up my icons a bit. The new icons are: · The opening to the ride Pirates of the Carribean · A still of the Titty Twister sign from Dusk till Dawn · A photograph of Roger from the no longer performed "Doug Live" at Nickelodeon Studios with the words "Roger Lives!" · A poster from the game Midnight Nowhere, some guy with a big brain and a gun (very psychedlic in nature). · A morphed image of Gizmo is the car from Gremlins with the blurb "Gizmo Can't Drive 55", a reference to a Sammy Hagar song · A newspaper headline saying “Millions Fear End Soon”, I completely forget what this is from · A still from a flash animation on the website of Doug TenNapel (the animation is no longer up) · A still from the Green Fairy/Absinthe sequence of Moulin Rouge · A Button that says “The Mind Can Do Anything” from Almost Famous Also, this isn't my quote for this weeks _identity_, but it sure is a fun one. "It's their time, up there, up there, down here, it's our time, down here" Ten points if anyone can guess what film and/or character said it. |

Warren Ellis posted this Australian news article about kids killing kids in Japan in very graphic ways in his journal, which can also be found as an RSS feed on LJ, the well known and liked, die puny humans. Now tell me, can't you see some Zombie movie coming from that? First of course as a Japanese pic from the same studio that did either Tomie or Ringu or maybe something we haven't yet jumped on in America (or that I am at least not aware of)... then of course as American film from something like New Line, (although it could easily be any studio from Universal to FOX). Of course in America they'd try to tie it to Columbine and Terroists and try to find a way to put a weird romance in the plot and have some major star play the good guy detective. That's the way this would have to play out in either film... a noir Zombie story, not unlike Lord of Illusions, but even darker and possibly even a richer, more intricate mystery which would really keep the audience guessing. I'd also place the film in an all girls Catholic Private Cchool, in either country. What wouldn't be scarier or cooler to see than a female teenager in a school girl outfit, with a knife, blank expression, veins bulging and ready to kill facing off against a private detective in a Fedora, a vest and a grizzled but "I've been here before and it never gets old" look in his eyes? |

Gloomy and sunny, it shifted back and forth. The heat would blaze, then the wind would drift in. As I laid in the sand on the shores of Far Rockway, I dreamt and thought of a better time and place that could be. One that may be attainable someday, but right now is dangerous to even try to consider as things aren't in place. The stars are out alignment, emotions are crazed, my life is a frenzy of insanity. To my side a few feet away laid my best friend, my business partner and my brother from different parents, basking in the same relaxing sand and wondering what else there was and if this all there was. We both know it wasn't and isn't. The show we have arranged is coming along splendidly, fliers fully designed and in the process or just about done being printed. Here's what they SHOULD look like: That was finally finished before we hit the road for the lack of populated Coney Island, where the water was still cold, and the energy was kind of dead. There was almost no one on the rides and barely any in the streets. It was weird, but cool. I'll look forward when there are more folks roaming around though, that's much more fun and interesting to watch. We did get a nice lunch though. Finally also got to indulge my craving for Indian on Saturday night after hearing Ishle Park read poetry and then hanging out around the Lower East Side with fellow artists and poets. Wish I had the fliers that day, but the word is out and we have some "RSVP" of folks who will come. Of course this doesn't mean they WILL, but they said they will and that's good enough for now. I am so excited. I went from esoteric to pimp to clarity in one entry... yay for me or something. |

-For those who truly enjoy pure and intense snarkyness, especially snarkyness attached to science fiction and even more so Star Trek and don;t get enopugh from their own observations or Television Without Pity, I point you to Five Minute Voyager (the site does all of Star Trek and other shows as well). -The Spongebob Squarepants Movie finally has an offical website, with among other things also has a story page detailing more of the plot. There's also a new trailer for the film which can be seen best off the apple trailer site. I still like that first "teaser trailer" though which features scenes from The Hunt for Red October and U-571, among others, but I'm not sure which. -Old games are on the rise. Namco Museum is a hit, there's also the new Intellivision Lives packs and RetroGamer magazine, which for some reason doesn't have their US website working as of yet. I'm sure this will give quite a few folks on my friend's list nerd chubbies of the brain. |

(I wrote this last night, but stupid SeMagic keeps messing me up and changing which Journal it posts in) First off, thanks to ianbrill, pomobarney, stealthmunchkin, jmhm for participating. An extra super special thanks to wicketgate. Someday hon, huh? Oooh yeah. Anyways: 1.) Clandestine/X-Men, art by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer 2.) Heart of the Empire (very impressive of you Dorian on the Arkwright guess... this is from the sequel), art by Bryan Talbot 3.) Ruse, art by Butch Guice 4.) Major Bummer, pencils and inks by Doug Mahkne & Tom Nyugen 5.) Moon Knight, art by John Paul Leon 6.) Orion, art by Walt Simonson In horrible news... SeMagic completely swallowed the music post I was half-way writing about all the CDs I bought last Thursday. I was doing mini reviews on each. I guess i'll just have to either re-write or just post the CDs. At this point, I don't think even derekfz, the geekiest, funnest music writer on my friends list even cares. Unless of course he does... we'll see. I'm too busy contemplating and making realizations over Melissa's poll answers. I'm not looking into too much, but hey, they still make me smile. I should stop thinking though... gets me no where but further frustration. I should go to sleep really soon, just in case tomorrow can kick fucking ass. I want to be rested for a possibly killer weekend. |

I had mentioned the Vanity Fair article by Larry David in which addressed John Kerry that I got to see before it went to press. I was talking about the article with ianbrill last night and that prompted me to go looking for the article. Along the way I found this relaly hilarious article from last year's L.A. Weekly. The writing actually hits home in regards to relationships and how some of mine have gone in the past. Just for reference, part of the conversation with Ian was that there's this guy who lives right next door to Bowery Poetry Club who looks just like Larry David. Ian asked if he had a hot wife, he meant if he had a wife like Larry's wife on Curb Your Enthuiasm, but I decided to do research on laurie David and found the article and this picture. ( Larry on Laurie ) And here's the Larry David letter to John Kerry... it may not be exact as it was transcribed by some guy on his blog, but it should be right. An Open Letter to John Kerry From: Larry David Dear John, I hope this letter finds you well. Actually, I hope this letter finds you. Do you even read Vanity Fair? I could do without the Calvin Klein underwear ads, but other than that it’s pretty good. I know its thick, and that must mean something…So, O.K., what am I selling? I’m selling me, Senator, as the last piece of the puzzle, or maybe the next to last, which will allow you to take up residence on Pennsylvania Avenue- by choosing me to be your vice-presidential candidate. Happy Birthday to anavidfan (and thanks to herself & SeMagic for the reminder) I've known Lindsay going on a long time now, along with sailorshar, harliqwynn, vachon777 and azymyth and I think one or two more who never actually update their LJ. A millennium ago I met them all on IRC in an old-school channel we used to all frequent. At the time I only went to three channels on different servers (now I go to none at all actually). The one I was in with these folks had its drama; my god did its have its drama. It had children birthed from it, couples coming together, but in this case, years later it's given me some really wonderful friends all across America. I'd of never predicted that almost I believe 7-8 years later, I still speak to them all either through the many messenger programs and/or LJ itself and how important they actually are to me and how much I care about them. It's a wacky "modern" world we live in, with new concepts of relationships and friends, but man, it's all good. (The best part is that this is the only case of this type of stuff on LJ... but better yet it's not the only example on my friend's list... you people know I'm talking about. Aw yeah... you know.) |

I COULD BE COMPELLED TO GO TO A THEATRE FOR THIS Collateral - the man behind one of my favorite films ever and the man behind the camera of two other fairly enjoyable films, although no where near even my top 100, Michael Mann looks to be coming back hard in the next couple years teams up with Tom Cruise (who needs vehicles to prove that he will be able to get work in ten years the way Harrison Ford and Richard Gere still can). While I don't care for Jamie Foxx, and probably never will, this trailer looks to present what can be an extremely entertaining and enjoyable film. It will be the first truly legitimate Stuart Beittie script who while it's true he polished his skills on some seriously questionable work (other than do assistance on the development of Pirates of the Carribean), he was assigned to adapt two very difficult projects in James Siegel's Derailed and Steve Nile's 30 Days Into Night. The trailer for this just makes me perk up and say "That looks like a good film"... it's EXTREMELY rare that a trailer ever even does that, so...there ya go. Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle - Now, I know you're thinking, are you crazy? No, I'm not. This seriously looks like a lot of fun. I don't know why anyone would want White Castle. "This is no longer about getting White Castle!". I think the idea of bringing two minor caharcters from "teen movies" together as the stars of their own crazy and stupid adventure is um... not brilliant... not inspired... not... fuck, it's just something I'd actually see. I really love the soundtrack and the supporting cast though. I mean a movie where Neil Patrick Harris plays a pervert and he's also himself? That's just as good as Fred Savage as a drug addict. The soundtrack is classic. Download some of those mp3s. You'll see. There's also one joke in the trailer that just makes me go "That's just perfect" even if it's cliche, the delivery is flawless. Saved - This is going into limited theatres, it probably won't get much of a bump up from that. That is quite a shame, as this is the type of film that shows small, quiet, fun, interesting films, with innovative casts and newcomer writers and directors who comes from the prestige of winning awards for their student/amateur work (which Saved was one), can still happen and be quality. I'm not much of a Mandy Moore fan and in the role she's playing that seems one of the audiences there going for, they wanted the audience that actually finds Jena Malone and Eva Ammurri attractive on the guy's side. Patrick Fugit is the male lead and he's still as cute as ever, and still quite stoic, but at least he's not Edward Furlong. I personally also love Macauley Culkin... he was great in party Monster. Although I find it hard to buy him as a straight guy, he's just sooo... I don't know, he exudes something that doesn't say "guy" or "I like women" like Chris Kattan or that old Dana Carvey SNL character "The effenimate man" or whatever it was. He's still quite enjoyable though. Also, you know that I'm going to love any film that takes a dig on organized religion and unquestionable faith in it. UNSURE Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - I've never read the books, but this website makes this film looks like it's really interesting. The website design is really nice. I don't know if Carey will be able to whatever role he's supposed to be without doing any Carreyisms though. It'll be interesting to see if he can. He pulled that off in The Majestic, but in Bruce Almighty he didn't become Bruce, he seemed very much like Jim. I'll need to see a trailer before I can decide on this one, but I'm compelled. THEY SHOULD'VE STOPPED PRE-PRODUCTION Dodgeball - There's just no excuse for this. At least the trailer makes me feel that way. I expect this junk from Stiller and Vaughn, but not Jason Bateman, not Rip Torn (Men in Black wasn't junk this bad), but most especially not one of my favorite character actors ever Stephen Root. This really just looks pointless and utterly retarded without a redeeming factor other than Christine Taylor still being hot even after having a kid and Missi Pyle who some may not see as being sexy or attractive, but man, she does something to me (although I do expect her to be in crap like this... it's her style). William Shatner is in this thing too supposdley... why? WHY I say... WHY!? Exorcist: The Begining - sounds bad on title alone doesn't it? Wait... the director is Renny Harlin. The writers William Wisher Jr., Caleb Carr and Alexi Hawley (that first one co-wrote Terminator 2, the other two have done nothing of note). Stellan Skarsgård takes the role of Lancester originated by Max Von Sydow, while James D'Arcy takes the role of Father Francis. This just sounds like a film that never needed to be made. Really, it just serves no purpose and I just don't see how it can be any good in the long run, not with that hack at the helm. |

I don't expect anyone to actually guess the answers. I actually want to see what type of answers you can come up with based on the under lit web cam panels from various comics ( I didn't want to take the energy to actually scan the comics in... that much effort didn't seem worth it). Just go ahead and guess, even the stupidest, silliest answer will be fun. Plus, it's all about the ending of the poll anyway. You know that. ;) I'm gonna give this thing like two days and if no one but ianbrill even bothers to particpate I'll delete it and do another Guess the Movie, I guess...
