Not Letting Up

Michele Bachmann is still going after Rick Perry over the HPV vaccine, in a campaign email a short time ago:

As a mother of three daughters, I believe that parents, in consultation with their doctor and family, should decide whether or not our young women should receive injections for sexually transmitted diseases. These personal decisions are best left between parents and doctors, taking into consideration a child's personal health and family's values.

It almost reads like Perry was proposing to inject young girls with sexually transmitted diseases -- personally.

She's also lumping Perry's HPV plan with Obamacare. A two-fer.

Very Rare

We're not quite sure what it means. But the Supreme Court has issued a stay in the case of Duane Buck, 48, who was scheduled to be executed this evening in Texas. A lot of people get executed in Texas. And it's a pretty rare day when the US Supreme Court intervenes. In this case, it has added political implications because the Gov. of Texas is running to be president. And he's made a point of pride in the state's record on capital punishment and his confidence that everyone executed is guilty.

I Love This Story

All sorts of states and cities give tax breaks and even cash pay-outs to shows and production companies to locate their shows in their area. But with the news that the state of New Jersey has shelled out $420,000 to Jersey Shore for locating the show in New Jersey, I mean, where else are they going to go?

Short-term Gimmicks

I can only marvel at the cynicism of Speaker Boehner's argument about 'short-term gimmicks' on the jobs front. Let's assume for the sake of conversation that we buy that there's an essential disagreement about macroeconomic policy and its role in spurring job growth in the near term. Let's also set aside the extremely strong arguments that contractionary policies will almost certainly make the jobs situation worse. Even if you set those arguments aside, the Speaker is basically saying he's not interested in doing anything to actually create jobs now or over the course of the next year.
