in ruins

demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition demolition

Whenever I go to work, I pass the old school, where I took Spanish language lessons ten years ago.

The school was out of use for a while, but since a few months there is a large fence around the old building and it is being demolished.

Today we sneaked inside from what is left of the school and I took one more look in my old 'spanish' classroom and walked through the battered building.

The mural in the stairwell was my favorite part of the building and it was still untouched.

The old school is completely in ruins, which is a pity actually. They could have built loft apartments in the building...

Palmier

During my first lunch at La Famille Marrakech, I fell in love with this handmade palmtree wall hanging.

An unique woolen palm tree, what an appropriate souvenir!

It reminds me of Marrakech in many ways;
... of course both wonderful workshops, when we had lunch at La Famille.
... the adventurous bike ride to the palm grove La Palmaraie.
... a local law in Marrakech, that buildings should not be higher than a palm tree.
... even the high masts throughout the city are masked like palm trees.
... the delicious dates, my favorite sweets

hold on to the wood

publication ariadne at homepublication ariadne at homepublication ariadne at home

When we moved here 12 years ago, we replaced our boring banister by a tree trunk from the woods.

After all these years we still walk the stairway along the wood!

This idea is now published in the Dutch interior magazine Ariadne at Home issue April 2015.

The geraniums from the backyard, I have saved from the autumn storm, transform the stairway into a Mediterranean scene.

Trend alert: house plants!
Just kidding...this is only temporary.

The harlequin stool is ready.

Walking down the stairs, I'm falling in love with those colored harlequin diamonds. The new stool fits frankly cool in the kitchen.

We made our banisters of tree trunks.

The [costa de la luz] ixxi now hangs for a while in the stairway on the top floor.
