Sewing spree for Princess Fiona

I had been a while since Bug's Princess Fiona had gotten a new outfit. This oversight is now corrected. I dug up remnants of voile from another project, a cute scrap of paisley and some tulle for a 2-day sewing spree.

Princess Fiona now has:

A ruffled multi-tiered dress

A long skirt and matching blouse

Purple pants

A matching vest

And a tutu.

I think Fiona is set for a while and Bug is very happy with the wardrobe additions

A spooky little witch

This year, Bug wanted a spooky costume for the school Halloween parade. That was a change from princess the previous 2 hers so I went along.

I found the flocked satin at JoAnn's in the remnant bin, made a skirt adding a satin border and waistband then added some glittery spiders that were sold a table decorations.

Hot glued purple feathers to a regular witch had and added some more glitter spiders.

The top is a regular black long sleeve t-shirt to which I added a tulle ruffle and feather around the collar.

The final touch is a lace wrap with a purple border

Abracadabra!! This whole getup cost me less than $15 :)

Pastel spring skirt

Spring is definitely here, a full 4 weeks earlier than last year!!! I'm out of my usual winter funk but it also means I have to pay a visit to my Dr's office very soon to renew my Epi-Pen prescription ... bees will not wait for me to start buzzing around. It's also time for pretty outfits... Starting with a cutie Easter skirt for my sweet Bug. Love the bead hair in these pictures :)

And Bug loves the pink and pastel colors of this lovely paisley I got for a steal ( $4 a yard!!)

My ruffler foot got another workout... Definitely the best attachment to invest in when there is a little girl that loves frills and ruffles

Doesn't she already looks so grown up?

And I even put a zipper !!

Evening ruffled wrap

This project is a commission for a dressy wrap.
I used a black satin damask and married it with light-weight ultrasuede and organza. Again a good workout for my ruffler foot (Love it!!). This was so easy to make and looks very dressy, just perfect to cover when wearing a sleeveless gown for a cocktail or evening dinner in the colder weather. Here is Amie modeling it for me. Even with jeans and a sweater, I think it looks smashing!

To glam it up, I added a hint of gold with an embroidered border.

Pajama party !!

I did it! I grabbed all the cute fleece Bug had been choosing during our craft store expeditions and made all of those that were big enough for it into pajama pants.  Chocolate with aqua hearts with a rick rack trim, flowers and ladybugs, and flowers and hearts with a fun red satin ruffle. Bug looooves them and I think I have the elastic waist pants technique down pat now :)

Here is Bug rocking her new girly pajamas!

HAPPY!

Vintage doll dress

I recently met the owner of an antique shop in nearby Ellicott City and we got into talking about handcrafting and sewing. She repairs vintage dolls and asked me whether I could make custom clothes  for her clients. I thought It would be a fun change in my regular sewing routine and here is the first commission completed: A blessing dress for a 1923 Grace Putnam Bye-Lo baby doll.

With lots of precautions and a very clear warning to Bug that she was not to touch this baby because it was highly breakable and precious, I brought the cutie to my studio, researched period clothing and meshed the results with the doll's owner's request: A girl baby, white or cream blessing dress, long enough to cover the feet but not too long. I went for long balloon sleeves on a regular bodice and a flared skirt, trimmed with lace along with ruffled pantaloons and a matching hat.
The store owner was quite happy with the result and will probably give me more commissions in the future.

Look how peaceful she looks ... how precious :)

Cancan ruffled satin scarf

The studio is in overdrive. Only a few weeks until Christmas and still so much to do. I had started this scarf several weeks ago but it was kind of bland, just the chocolate satin with a crushed raspberry border.
Finally I figured out how to bring a bit of pizzaz to my creation: Ruffles. Out came the ruffler foot. And soon a completely different look:

Now not only does it have fun colors, it also has a feminine vintage feel. I decided to call it the Cancan scarf.

Cosy ruffled wrap

I still can't wrap my head around the impeding colder time of the year. We actually had a preview just before Halloween with some flurries. Bug was all excited and wanted to go play out side. Me, not so much. I figured I needed something cozy and colorful to stay warm in my new office. Between the voile top and satin back, I layered some low loft cotton quilt batting. That should be the perfect amount of warmth with some cheerful colors to fight off the gloom. I couldn't help adding a little ruffle for a touch of contrast.

Stashbusting - A fall ruffled skirt

Another long overdue project finally completed thanks to Stabusting September: I've had this grey fabric in my stash for almost a year. It was time to make a skirt that Bug could wear at school when it gets cooler. It is already getting that way. Another little corduroy in a mousy grey that I girlified with a colorful ruffle.

I finally conquered my fear of zippers and it worked ok

Not bad for a first time...

Bug already proudly wore it at school
