How Do You Make A Skeleton Cute?

Give him a pointy hat and an orange heart, of course!  I made another crepe paper wreath.  You might remember I made a Christmas one.  I've been wanting one for Halloween and finally got around to it.

Just like the Christmas one, this is made on a mason jar ring.  I've got the video for the Christmas one below.  It's made exactly the same way.

One tip for this one:  the skeleton is a lot heavier than the deer and tree on the other.  So, I knew I would have to counter-balance it, so the wreath wouldn't hang lopsided.  The answer I came up with was hot gluing two pennies together and then hot gluing those to the ring on the opposite side from the skeleton.  Then I wrapped the ring with crepe paper.

Here's the video:

Crepe paper wreaths are really very easy to make and they look fantastic!

I've been having so much fun with Louisa!  Here she is just last week in her leopard print dress.  She's looking out the window of their AirB&B in Savannah.  They are in the process of moving into their house.  We spent all afternoon Friday in a fabulous Antique Warehouse finding furniture.  It was soooo hot!  But Louisa was an angel baby!

So glad you stopped by!

Halloween Black Cats and Kittens

Too bad I couldn't get my real Halloween Kitty to pose for this picture.  He's had some issues, but seems to be feeling great right now, thank goodness!  I love black cats!

This postcard has plenty of black kitties to love!  It really isn't for Halloween, but with the addition of a bat and a pumpkin, it looks Halloween enough for me.  I love that the mama cat, pumpkin and ghost all look like they're howling.  There's a lot of old stuff on this card:  paper that I've hoarded, ribbon that I've had forever, and my favorite pumpkin stamps that aren't available any more.

If you'd like to create a little black cat love for yourself, you can download the black cat and kittens postcard below.

I love this black cat svg cute file - isn't it adorable?  I couldn't get the svg file to link in the supplies list below, so you can click HERE for the link.

The treat box is made with a siimple black box topped with fence posts.  I know it sounds kind of strange, but I think the fence posts are kind of pretty!  After stenciling stone cardstock, I cut strips and then hand cut a point on the top.  I didn't worry about perfection, I figure this is an old fence and besides it's for Halloween!

Here you can see the side, just a couple of rails and fence posts. The sentiment is from my one of my favorite Halloween sets from Waltzingmouse.  I think they are no longer in business.

I forgot to show you the inside of the card.  The sentiment comes with the download.

I'll be sending out information on Halloween Choux Box Kits in the next few days.  If you would like to see them and you're not a member of the Choux Box Kits Club, go to the link at the top of my blog.  No cost to join, no obligations...just fun things to create!

We're trying to get Louisa and her mommy and daddy to Savannah.  Been holding off due to Hurricane Irma.  Our hearts go out to those affected and to those affected by Harvey, as well.

Hope you're safe, wherever you are.

Wishing you a lovely week!

Make Card Bases with Dies

Hooray!  I get to see Louisa and her mommy and daddy two weeks in a row.  Boo!  They are moving to Savannah this month.  Hooray!  I will go visit often. Boo!  I have to fly again.

Hooray!  Card bases created with dies are fun.  Hooray!  I love these stamps designed by Helen Dardik.  I've long been a fan of her artwork.  It reminds me of Mary Blair's work, who did a lot of designs for Disney.

I really like how the dies form the card base of this card.  Love all the scallops.  This is made like the swing top cards I made earlier.

Since the HOORAY! is hot glued to the brad only, it stays in place when the scallop oval top swings open.

The back of the brad is hidden by cardstock panels, which also provide plenty of room to write a note.

This card is made with two of my favorite dies.  I didn't realize they would look so cute together!  The brad on this one is hidden under the cherry.

I used cracked pistachio on both layers.  Sponged on a light layer on the top and then created my favorite plaid on the back layer.

Hooray!  These were fun.

Hooray!  The weekend is coming.  Have a good one.

Hooray!  Louisa will be here soon...

Monochromatic!

Serene.  Peaceful. Christmas.  Sounds lovely!

Speaking of lovely - I've always loved this birdcage lady stamp.  It was one of the first stamps I bought.  I used her to create a birthday card awhile back and this color scheme just seemed to work perfectly for her.  I changed the sentiment to Hello and had a perfect everyday card.

The stone and white combination does make a lovely serene card.

I've had this Christmas village scene hanging around for several years.  A guy here locally has a great selection of old postcards and I picked this up a long time ago.  I finally figured out what to do with it!

Framed it up with snowflakes.  Added some stone colored snowflakes here and there.
Hard to see, but there is lots of soft, pretty glitter and I added "snow" to a couple of roofs and embossed snowflakes in the sky.

Yes, you may have already figured out, this is what I call an outside in card.  The image would normally be on the outside, but it's actually inside.

I've got this Christmas Village ready for you to download below.

Up Up and Away

We are having wonderful weather!  It would be a wonderful time to go up, up and away in a hot air balloon.   Have you ever flown in one?  I never have.  I would, but I have to confess I would be a little scared!

Isn't this hot air balloon and little bear adorable?  Couldn't wait to start coloring when my package arrived from Waffleflower.

I made another fold over card.  This one is held closed with the clothespin.

What's inside?  Another adorable bear (and bird)!

You may remember that this die from Pretty Pink Posh is my favorite for making clouds.  I start my blending tool on top of the cut out and push the color onto my card.   I made the clouds with the fold over closed and then opened it and lined up my die cut to match.

Did these cuties make you smile?  I can't remember where I picked up the old card.  It is a kids birthday card and it is in terrible shape.  Luckily, I was able to clean it up enough so that it's printable.  You can download the hot air balloon image below.

The actual basket is white, so I colored it with copics, adding a couple of little birds from the Waffleflower stamp set.  You know I love plaid and so I created another plaid card with my stencil brush.  I used the top two colors in the Color Box palette.

Here's a quick look at the inside.

Put a (Background) Spotlight on It!

Oh, boy is it HOT!!  We've had several days at or almost 100 degrees and I'm a cold weather girl.  Always have been.  This time of year has me yearning for fall weather.

I can't wait for Louisa and her mommy and daddy to get here.  They're coming to stay for a couple of days.  What are you up to?

I've been up to bear cards again.  This time a cute birthday bear and that same bear couple from my last post, but I got to color them this time.  I figured out how to take out the color of the image with a bit of trial and error and a tip or two from a couple of videos.

The birthday bear is highlighted with what I'm calling a background spotlight.  It's super easy to do and adds a fun element to your card.

The masking paper makes the creation of a spotlight really easy.  I'm sure you could use a lightweight paper, but the masking paper has the added convenience of an adhesive that's easy to remove.

Masking paper is also really thin making it so easy to glide over with the applicators.

The key here is to use a light touch with the distress inks, so that you can build up color.  If you start with a heavy hand you might get way too much color for your liking.  I'm sure you don't have to ask how I know that.  Let's just say blotchiness is not pretty!

I mentioned that the masking paper is lightweight, but it's also strong enough to use a couple of times.  I stuck the same piece to the inside of my card.

And then stamped my sentiment and another birthday bear in that background spotlight.

Don't throw away the trash (oh, excuse me:  the negative space).  It works great to leave the circle space open, but cover the area around it, so the stamping just shows in the spotlight.

I just love this beary sweet couple.  They were fun to color too!   I split them apart and created a fold-over card using twine to hold it closed.

The polka dots on the front and the squares inside were created using stencils, inks and stencil brushes.  So soft and pretty.

I've got the bear couple for you, if you would like to color them too.

Download Bear Couple Coloring Page HERE.

That's it for me.  I've got to go open a box full of toys and board books that just came for Louisa.  Who is also beary sweet, by the way!

Have a lovely week!
