Coco Alebrije Dante Novelty Straw/Figural Clip (Disneyland & California Adventure Exclusive)

Hey all! So I just got back Anaheim, CA where I not only attended the 2022 D23 Expo, but was also grateful to have fit in a quick visit to Disneyland & California Adventure as well thanks to my friend Josh aka Pixar Freak! And even though I didn't come home with anything very exciting from the actual expo (Pixar merch was both VERY lacking AND lackluster this year), I did pick up a couple of cool new items from the parks—one of which was this really neat new Coco inspired alebrije Dante novelty straw/figural clip which just dropped earlier this month! Without Josh's help, I wouldn't have known about this; so again, I'm very grateful to him for not only getting me into the parks, but letting me know that this was out AND where it was available to buy.

I couldn't resist it (as well as a delicious refreshing horchata beverage) since firstly: it's super cute and unique and secondly: I've already collected several other Disney Parks novelty straws in the past (like the Luxo Jr. Toy Story alien and Ratatouille ones), so I knew this one would fit right in with the collection.

You can buy this right now at both the Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill in California Adventure AND the Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Disneyland (Frontierland) for $7.99.

Let me know your thoughts down below! What do you all think of this one? Will you be picking it up?

Coco: Virtual Wondrous Con 2021 Miguel Funko Soda Vinyl Figure—CHASE!

On Friday April 23rd, FunkoShop.com released this limited edition Virtual WonderCon Exclusive Disney·Pixar Coco Funko Soda Miguel vinyl figure and I was able to snag one before it sold out! Out of the 10,000 of these made, 8,400 out there are the common design and only 1,600 are the CHASE edition (hooded skeleton Miguel). Now here's the thing, I purchased this without any intent of getting the chase—it wasn't even a consideration in my mind. I've never pulled a chase in all my years of collecting and wasn't about to get my hopes up for this one only to be disappointed. Well believe it or not (I still can't believe it), I received a chase!! I was, and kinda still am, completely stunned.

This is the first Pixar themed Funko Soda release and I couldn't not jump on the hype train! Edna Mode is next, so I'll be excited to get her when she's available soon as well. The figure comes in neat tin soda can packaging, is 4" tall and retailed for $12 (total after tax and shipping was $20.15).

Miguel looks SO awesome! You know I love stylized vinyl figures and the Funko Sodas are especially cute—count me in as a fan! I can tell already that they're a lot of fun with some great theming and can't wait to see more.

Another cool little touch is that the figures come with a small cardboard disc/pog telling you what you got (whether standard or chase) and the LE number. I really dig the art of Miguel on the back and definitely wonder who the artist is!

Well, I guess off to eBay I go now to track down the standard/common design. I certainly wasn't expecting I'd have to do that, but at least I'll be able to easily find that one at a decent price. If you're looking to add this Funko Soda to your collection, be sure to check out current eBay listing right HERE.

Mattel Pixar Collection 7" Scale Posable Action Figures—WAVE 2!

The collection continues! Today I'm thrilled to finally have the time to review Mattel's second wave of Pixar 7" action figures. At the start of last year, Mattel began expanding their phenomenal Disney·Pixar 7" scale figure collection (which began in 2019 with Toy Story 4) to other Pixar films—such as Monsters Inc., The Incredibles and Wall·E in the first wave—and now adds some more Incredibles to the line as well as Coco and Brave in this second wave! Onward and Soul characters were also created in this scale last year as well.

I saw these figures in person for the first time clear back in February last year at the 2020 New York Toy Fair (exactly a year ago today actually) and I was looking forward to them even back then. So happy to finally have them in my collection! Their in-store release got delayed quite a bit (some of these are only starting to hit Target stores now), but they've been available on Amazon in this Amazon exclusive closed-box style packaging since last September. Though I prefer the in-store standard open-blister packaging, I wasn't going to wait much longer to try in find them at the store. In the end, I ended up getting all four of these from Amazon for Christmas.

In this wave there are four brand new figures (well technically eight, since several of these are multi-packs): Elastigirl & Jack-Jack from The Incredibles, Miguel & Dante from Coco, Merida from Brave and Dash with Goo Jack-Jack & Monster Jack-Jack from The Incredibles. Take a closer look down below! These retail for $12.99 on Amazon and $9.99 at Target.

ELASTIGIRL & JACK-JACK

While these aren't the most exciting or most unique characters (since there have been several Elastigirl & Jack-Jack figures over the years, even as recently as 2018 with Incredibles 2), this is the first time they've been released in Mattel's signature  7" scale. Honestly though, they're probably my favorite versions of these characters to date and feel they have the most play value in [what I consider] the perfect figure size (easy to grip, pose and display—not to mention their sculpts are spot on). And with Violet coming later this year, we'll have the whole Parr family in this line! (UPDATE: Violet is now available; full blog post HERE)

MIGUEL & DANTE

Again, not the most thrilling (since Mattel just released these characters in 2017 in a smaller, but similar, 5"/6" scale), but I really like the updated designs here and the new larger 7" scale. I would say both sculpts are improvements on the originals and I'm ultimately happy that these characters are part of this assortment. Miguel's look is especially well done—even down to his "dimple, no dimple" smile. My only slight criticism here is I feel the paint job for Miguel's skin leans a little too heavy on the orange. Dante's floppy, rubbery tongue (as it was with the original) is great!

MERIDA

Now THIS is an exciting and unique release since this is the first ever action figure of Merida from Brave ever! Sure there have been some smaller scale figures and plenty of dolls, but never anything like this. Even though Brave isn't a top-fave Pixar film for me and Merida isn't a favorite character of mine, I still love having her in this collection. She looks fantastic! Such a solid sculpt—and that hair. She's easy to stand and looks excellent holding her bow accessory. Very impressed!

DASH, GOO JACK-JACK & MONSTER JACK-JACK

Again, Incredibles figures just hit a few years ago (so I wasn't clamoring for these), but boy do these ones look fantastic. I will honestly say that I do prefer these new Mattel ones over the 2018 Jakks Pacific 4" figures for Incredibles 2. A couple of things I wanted to note: first, they call this "Goo Jack-Jack" here on the box, but I would say this is most certainly inspired by water Jack-Jack (his power as seen briefly HERE in the Auntie Edna short film). Secondly, I do wish they included Jack-Jack's mask on the monster Jack-Jack figure (as seen on the original prototype), but it's not a big issue. Jack-Jack is seen in his monster form without his mask as well, so this does work.

I really, really hope this line continues for a long time—but unfortunately it already seems to be fading. There are some exciting Toy Story characters still slated to come out this year (as well as a fun Monsters Inc. "Getting to Know Boo" gift set, Retro Suit Mr. Incredible, Violet Parr and characters from Pixar's summer 2021 film Luca), but I'm just crossing my fingers that they don't get cancelled like so many things do these days. I would love to see Mattel tackle some A Bug's Life characters again for the first time since 1998 (Flik and Hopper would be amazing to see as modern figures) and some Up characters. It would be interesting to see what Mattel could do with Finding Nemo as well! What I'd really love to see are some unique/side characters and less focus on just the main characters we've seen enough times over the years. Who would YOU like to see made?

Pick these up on Amazon using the links below and be sure to let me know your thoughts down in the comments! Stay tuned for more from my collection right here every week.

UPDATE 6/02/21- Most of these have now finally hit Target stores in the open-blister packaging!

Coco: Glow-In-The-Dark 6" Pepita Funko POP! REVIEW (BoxLunch Exclusive)

In celebration of Disney·Pixar's Coco's third anniversary (tomorrow—11/22), tonight I'm taking a quick look at the brand new 6" glow-in-the-dark Pepita Funko "POP!", a BoxLunch Exclusive! How epic is this? This is such a welcome addition to the line and I know she'll look perfect displayed next to the rest of my Coco Funko POP collection (seen HERE).

This POP is available right now at your local BoxLunch Gifts store or on their website HERE for $22.90. You won't want to miss this one. Take a closer look at this vibrant spirit guide by checking out my detailed in-box and loose photos down below!

Pepita has definitely been a favorite character of mine to photograph over the last couple years; I don't know what it is! I have several other toys of her and she's been incredibly photogenic every time I do a shoot—no matter what the product. This Funko POP proved to be no different. Just look how gorgeous! Her sculpt is perfect overall and she's a really decent size (a little bit larger than your standard Funko POP figure). She's totally worth the higher price tag.

And of course the awesome glow feature is just the icing on the cake. Wow!

What are your thoughts? Have you picked this up for your Coco/Funko POP collection or do you plan to? Again, I can't recommend it enough! Shout out any comments or questions you may have down below and be sure to stay tuned right here for more from my personal Pixar collection every week.

Coco: "Miguel and Dante" Postcard (Artwork by Joey Chou)

Coco "Miguel and Dante" Postcard Artwork by Joey Chou

Hola mis amigos! From one of my favorite artists, the talented Joey Chou, comes this Disney·Pixar Coco inspired print titled "Miguel and Dante"! This gorgeous artwork was released this past February for the 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts and follows Chou's previous six Pixar creations which include: The Good Dinosaur (see HERE & HERE), Finding Dory, Up, Cars and The Incredibles. I would absolutely love to see every Pixar film in Chou's portfolio someday.

This is, per usual, the standard 4x5 postcard size I always collect (the best value for this art, retailing at only $5.99—also great if you don't have much wall space), but it's also available as a Deluxe size 14x18 matted print and a 18x24 Canvas Wrap.

Chou's style is incredibly adorable. It's a unique balance of minimal designs, bright/soft colors and simple shapes/sharp lines. I couldn't begin to pick a favorite of his, but this one is up there now for sure! It just may be his most detailed yet. I know I've said that before, but he just keeps topping himself. Just WOW. The marigold bridge, the candles, the beads, the picado banner, Miguel, Dante and Pepita...it's all perfection—vibrant, masterfully composed (that depth is stunning) and cute as can be. It really captures the magic and heart of the film.

Before the shutdown, this could be found at the Disney Springs (or Downtown Disney in CA) Wondeground Gallery shop. At this point, if you're interested in this for your collection, your best bet tracking it down would be checking out current eBay listings HERE.

I can't wait to see what else Chou creates throughout the year! What film would you love to see him tackle next?  Whatever it might be, consider it purchased. Find out more about Joey Chou and his art on his Tumblr, blog, and Facebook page. If you like what you see, give him a follow on Instagram and Twitter as well! He's an awesome guy.

Coco: Miguel with Guitar Funko "POP!" (WonderCon/BoxLunch Exclusive)

Coco Miguel with Guitar Funko "POP!"

🎵 What color is the sky¡Ay, mi amor! ¡Ay, mi amor! 🎵

On April 10th, this limited edition WonderCon exclusive Coco Miguel with Guitar Funko "POP!" was released on the official Funko Shop website as well as at BoxLunch Gifts! This would have been available at the actual convention as well, if the event hadn't been cancelled. If you purchased it from the Funko Shop, you'll notice that your box has the "WonderCon Anaheim" sticker. If you purchased it from BoxLunch (as I did) you'll notice the substitute "Wondrous Convention" sticker. The actual POP figure itself, however, is exactly the same. And boy does it look cool!

This is the first Coco inspired POP that's come out since the initial wave in late 2017. I love the addition of Miguel's guitar, it makes for a great movie moment (Un Poco Loco)! The body is an entirely new sculpt, while the head seems to be the same as the original skeleton Miguel. Honestly they could have done something at least a little different with it, but it's no biggie.

Take a detailed look at this overall fantastic POP down below!

Original retail price was $15.00. Unfortunately, this figure has since sold out on both websites. So, if you're looking to track it down at this point, eBay is going to be your best bet! Check out current listings right HERE (don't worry, prices aren't too bad at all).

So what do you think? Did you add this POP to your collection? Which Coco POP is your favorite and who do you hope gets made in the future? Let me know your thoughts and any questions you might have in the comments below. Stay tuned right here daily for more from my ever expanding Pixar collection!

Coco: "Shufflerz" Collection

disney pixar coco shufflerz

Earlier this year, the Disney Store/ShopDisney introduced a fun new collection of stylized, walking wind-up toys called "Shufflerz" (which began with Toy Story characters; more on those soon). Then come August, at this year's D23 Expo, an exclusive 3-pack of Coco Shufflerz was released and only available at the convention's Disney Store! I had no idea these were coming, so it was certainly a pleasant surprise for Coco fans such as myself. I couldn't resist purchasing the set! A few weeks later, three additional wide-release single-pack versions of the characters were released at Disney Stores nationwide and ShopDisney.com— so you know I had to get those as well.

First off, I'll be taking a closer look at the characters included in the D23 Expo 3-pack: Dante (regular), Miguel (skeleton) and Ernesto (with guitar)! These guys look SO cute. What's unique about Shufflerz is that, rather than having a traditional wind-up key to twist, you wind them up by simply pressing them down repeatedly (around 10 times or so). From there, watch them "shuffle"!

The 3-pack retailed there at the Expo for $39.95. Each character is about 3 1/2'' tall.

MIGUEL (SKELETON)

ERNESTO (WITH GUITAR)

Below are the three wide-release versions of the characters, which mix things up just enough to make them fun additions to the assortment: Dante (alebrije), Ernesto (no guitar) and Miguel (regular—with guitar). I'd say the standout of these three is definitely the ultra-vibrant Alebrije Dante! He's essentially just a repaint (with added wings) of the regular Dante, but he looks so awesome regardless.

Retail for each of these Shufflerz is $12.95 (currently on sale for only $6.00).

And lastly, here's a look at the back of the box for one of the single-pack releases...

All in all, I love these! Shufflerz are fun little twist on the classic wind-up toy. As someone who enjoys wind-up and other traditional, simplistic toys, these were right up my alley. My only complaint would be that I wish (for the wide-releases) that they had created other characters instead of adding repeats. For example, Hector would have been a fun addition instead of a second Ernesto that's already so close to the initial D23 release. That's a minor gripe though, the characters we did get are very well done. Highly recommended!

If you'd like to add any of these to your collection, you can purchase the D23 Expo set on eBay right HERE and the standard releases HERE. Let me know your thoughts down below! Which one is your fave?
