California Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2024
The California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and its Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) are gearing up to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), November 17-23, 2024. Registered pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships create career pathways for Californians to enter top-paying jobs, without the need for a college degree.
On November 18th, DAS will host a webinar, Funding the Future: Scaling Registered Apprenticeship in California. The panel will feature programs that have been funded by the Apprenticeship Innovation Funding and will include educators, industry leaders, labor unions, and apprentices who will share how this investment has helped them support apprentices. These apprenticeship programs are scaling to meet the evolving needs of the workforce in various industries including advanced manufacturing, civil service, education, healthcare, transportation and business services. DAS will also be making an exciting announcement that will reinforce California’s ongoing commitment to workforce development centered on earn-and-learn careers.
The celebratory week continues with the 2024 Bay Area Construction Workforce Conference, taking place on November 20th. DAS Deputy Chief Adele Burnes will be in attendance and will speak on the importance of inclusive construction apprenticeships, especially for women and historically underrepresented groups in the trades. Construction industry leaders are invited to join the conference for a deep-dive discussion on how to develop and implement equitable workforce strategies that address upcoming demand and create high-quality jobs in construction.
DIR will be sharing National Apprenticeship Week events taking place across the state that are open to everyone interested in learning more about apprenticeship programs and career options. Stay tuned and follow DIR on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
