September 11: Reminder of Evil
They said goodbye to loved ones fully expecting to see them later. They had a day planned with meetings and projects. On no one's schedule was a fiery death, murder by strangers or jumping from a high rise building.
Remember the shock and the anger when you watched this mass murder unfold but also remember how quickly many were to wonder what we had done to provoke or even cause the carnage. I doubt if the Poles, Czechs, and Ethiopians reacted that way when evil attacked their citizens in the Thirties.
Lee Harris has eloquently written about how we have forgotten the concept of the enemy. Along with that should be an acknowledgement that with all of the world's advances, evil was never replaced by misunderstanding or mistake.
