Pick of the Week: Target Linen Pants Revisted

Image
I love a good pair of linen pants, but a good pair can be pricey. That's why I wrote about these Target linen pants back in 2011 . They used to carry them every year, but the last two years they've either drastically changed them or skipped them all together. This year they are back and better than ever! The pants have always had a drawstring waist, which I felt compelled to cover up. It was never the most attractive, but the pants this year but a much nicer waistline. It's still a drawstring, but the band for the waist is wider and more flattering than some of the previous versions Target has offered. The pants cost $25 and come in a few colors (more colors in stores than online). For tips on wearing linen pants just our our post on four ways to style linen pants .

State of the Denim Address

Image
I need new jeans. My black jeans bit the dust this week and I can tell that my other two pairs of jeans aren't long for this world. Sadly, I don't think I will be able to buy any new jeans. They don't sell them anymore. They just sell leggings in various shapes. Actually, that's an insult to leggings. I have leggings that offer more structure and less spandex than most of the jeans I've come across. I get the appeal of stretch denim for manufacturers. They just make one style of jeans, make it super stretchy and let us all pull them on like we do tights. There's another bonus to leggings. They are easier to get off than most of the jeans I've tried on. But leggings aren't pants. I need actual pants. Aside from the poor fit and the constant tugging because the jeans creep up or down, stretch denim is getting so stretchy it has new problems. Do we really need jeans that give us camel toe? If you are a fellow member of the thick thighs club, do you re...

Pick of the Week: Casual Summer Pant

Image
I love an easy summer pant. While I tend to default to skirts during the warmer months, some summer events really lend themselves to a garment that requires less careful or ladylike movement. Wide leg linen pants have been my go to for years. However, they are often too full to wear with billowy summer tops. This is where these cropped chambray pants from jcpenny come in. They are light, 100% cotton and loose enough to move in without being too baggy. Also, the draw string waist allows them to fit a variety of shapes. They cost $29 and also come in coral .

Pick of the Week: BR Skinny Cords

Image
As I mentioned on Monday , I'm tired of blue jeans. This sent me on a successful hunt for corduroys. Banana Republic's skinny cords are available in short, regular and tall, and they come in red, mustard, navy, burgundy, grey, beige, white, and black. They're so soft and comfy, it's like wearing jammie pants. I especially love that they sit a little higher than my jeans. Hurry if you want a pair. They're on sale for $59.99 plus another 40% off in stores, so several sizes have sold out.

Print Jeans

Image
It's cold, so I've been wearing my jeans a lot as they're the only warm pants I own. *Shakes angry fist at thin dress pants.* They are starting to bore me to tears, and I really don't want to get to the point that I can't think beyond blue. I've never been a fan of print pants, but this season's print jean trend may have won me over. If your print looks like wallpaper you pulled out of a Victorian house, I'm sold. Now if they just came in a cut that wasn't skinny. Wearing Yellow Pants

Image
Every store I set foot in this weekend was exploding with bright yellow pants. Since my first thought was "How fun!" followed promptly by "What do I wear them with?", I thought I'd have a crack at them in Polyvore. This yellow pair is the same clearance linen trousers from J. Crew I featured last Monday. Back to School: 3 Top Jeans for Curvy Girls

Image
Whether you are going back to school, back to college or just ready to get back to fall weather, it's coming soon. While I love my flouncy skirts for summer, I love my jeans and jackets in the fall (OK, I also love my flouncy skirts with tights, but this is a jeans post). I'm curvy, which means finding jeans a little more difficult. These are my three top go-to places for curvy girl jeans. I have owned each of these and would consider buying or have bought them again*. Top 3 Curvy Fit Jeans by fashionbeccafabulous featuring boot cut jeans 1. 1969 Curvy Jeans, Gap, $69.95 These are by far the best fitting jeans I've ever owned. This is how jeans should fit (if you're curvy). I never have to pull them up or adjust them or worry about gapping. I was carefree in these wonderful jeans. My main complaint is that they only held up for a few months. That would be find if they didn't cost $70 and rarely go on sale. (But they have some of last season's wash...

Styling Tips for Print Pants

Image
Print pants, as I've mentioned before, vex me some, but since they're so popular right now, I thought I'd take a stab as styling a pair. I fell for this beautiful bird print from Oasis; unfortunately in the few days since I've styled these outfits, they've sold out. However, if you're still interested in this exact print, it's available as shorts , a tank , and a twee top . My first tip for styling print pants starts before you ever buy them. Notice all the colors in the print. Part of the reasons I like these so much is all the warm flora against the cool grey background allows for a wide variety of styling options. Now that you've found something you like, pull out one or two of those colors you noticed for your top. Here I drew off of the green and orange in the birds. Print Pants, Autumnal Colors by fashionmefabulous My final tip is physical balance. Prints can be loud, especially when they run the length of your legs. Use a neutral top wi...

Love or Loathe: Unique Shorts

Image
You may disagree with me. You may vehemently disagree with me, but I think these shorts are freaking cool. I have large thighs so shorts like to climb them. These both look like they would have room for my thighs (I keep writing "thights" which pretty much explains my relationship with shorts.) but they're also long enough to not creep up. The high, soft waist band, however, seems like it would be a little too tummy hugging and the plain back would show all your underwear details. If they were made of linen or even wool instead of cotton jersey knit, I'd be all over them.

High Waisted

Image
I have short legs and a long torso. When I wear my shirts untucked, it often makes my legs look even shorter. For a change of pace, I'd like to buy some high-waisted bottoms. With my shirt tucked in, they'll shorten my torso and lengthen my legs. (If only they would actually lengthen my legs. I'm tired of hunting for step stools. Is 5'6" really so much to ask for? I've been 5'4" since 4th grade.) Summer Pants

Image
While summer is a great time for dresses, skirts, shorts and capris, I love breezy summer pants. The looks seems so elegant yet relaxed. I also love the easy of throwing on a great pair of pants with a cute sleeveless top knowing it will wear well through a hot summer day and pair great with a wrap or cardi come nightfall. My favorite summer pant materials are linen and lightweight cotton, which is what I've featured here. How to Wear Pastel Pants

Image
Despite not having a problem matching bright colors and having spent all of high school wearing khaki, I get completely confused when I have to match a pale bottom with anything. I think this is because I associate pastel pants, powder blue in particular, with retirees. Since this spring is all about colorful pants, this is a particularly sticky wicket. But here are a few ideas that will pull pastels out of grandma's closet. Whenever I'm not sure about something in my closet, my first response is to pair it with black. A casual tank or a structured moto jacket paired with oxford flats keeps things fresh. Summer Pants by fashionmefabulous Tough Bird by fashionmefabulous Did you get pants in a shade you really, really love? Do you have similar shades in your closet? Try a  monochrome look with your new pastel pants. Remember our rule of three. When mixing shades of the same color, incorporate it at least three times to make it look intentional. Spring's Bright Pants

Image
In 2009, I scoured the internet for red pants . Most choices were limited to black, grey, navy and beige. This spring, legs are bright and colorful. These pants are perfect for contrasting pastels, waking up neutrals, or playing with color blocking. Stock up now in case khaki rears its boring head again. Denim Review: Old Navy Sweetheart Jeans

Image
A while back, I reviewed Gap curvy fit jeans. I've never had a better fitting jean, but they cost $80 and lasted less than 4 months before wearing through in various places. I started searching for cheaper alternatives in the curvy fit denim market. Last year I picked up a pair of Old Navy's Sweetheart jeans for $15 on sale. They sit a little higher than I like so I nearly returned them, but my other jeans fell apart leaving me wear the only pair I had. After several months of wear, these jeans are holding up better than any pair I've owned since the $120 Silver Jeans I bought in high school. They wear so well I went back during a recent Old Navy sale and nabbed another pair for $19 (which came with coupons for three more pairs at the same price). Pros: These jeans wear for months. They hold up to all sorts of activity. My curves are too curvy for most "curvy" fit jeans, but these fit well. They come in boot-cut and skinny . They come in three washes in boot-cut...

Pick of the Week: Curvy Cords

Image
When the winter wind starts to bite, I shod my legs in denim armor. Daily jeans, however, can get really boring. I'd like to switch things up with some good ol' fashion whoosh-whoosh corduroy pants. Target currently has a curvy cut cord available in four neutral colors, and they're on clearance for $21.24. (Note, the reviews on Target.com suggest buying up a size.) I'm picturing these with a bright orange sweater and black distressed leather boots. How do you wear corduroys?

Polyvore is just wrapping up a contest for styling bright pants. Pleated Shorts

Image
I don't have a good relationship with shorts. Actually, my thighs don't have a good relationship with shorts. I can't find any that fit probably and don't ride up because of my curves. Jael Paris wrote recently about culottes, and though the word makes me shiver because of my years in private school, a long, loose short seems like quite a good idea. I've been searching for such a pleated short for a while, and, thankfully, stores are obliging with more options than ever before. Love or Loathe: Culottes

Image
While watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off the other day, I kept admiring Sloane's culottes. Yes, her culottes. (No, I don't have a brain fever. Proof: her fringe jacket and whatever the hell that vest thing is on Ferris strike me with fashion terrors. Although, I'd wear Cameron's buckle suspenders in a heartbeat.) I don't understand why women hate culottes. It seems to me to be another thing people hate because of the decade it's from rather than because of the look and functionality of the clothing. I have big thighs. Chances are very good that many of you have big thighs. When I wear normal shorts, they creep up and transform into short-shorts. Not cool. Not comfortable. While I adore dresses and skirts, they're not always the best thing for summer roller coasters and playing on the swings. Pants, meanwhile, are too warm for the season. Behold! There's a short that is cut loose like a skirt! Why are you booing ? There's no denying some of them a...
