Feeling Festive | Be Inspired Blog Hop

Hey all! Are you getting ready for the holiday season?
I atually am.
So ready.
I am now 7 and a half months pregnant. While I crave wine and slush, I am totally ready to sit down and hang out with family and friends lit up by the glow of the Christmas tree.
Yup, I am so very much ready.

I have been making Christmas and Holiday cards for the last few months. Because I make cards in bulk, I generally go with this watercoloured feel. I don't like to make the same cards over and over but I don't mind if they are similar style. You can find the stocking stamp in the Holly Jolly Christmas stamp set by Stampin' Up!

I wanted to show you something else - Just last weekend we had our company Christmas party! This always gets me in the spirit! Part of my role in a family owned business is to get prizes for all the staff. This year we did Mystery Boxes and it didn't take long for me to find 30 boxes at Marshalls. These boxes are gorgeous already so I only needed a tag to finish them off for my purpose. Using the  Stampin' Up! Stitched Shapes Framelits with my favourite Bombshell font I was able to quickly create numbered tags.... you guys... Stitched Shapes has been a 'go to' product for me over the last couple years so make sure its part of your stash!

And yes folks.
It's that easy.
Don't over think it.
You only have so many hours in the day.

Thanks for dropping by to check out my project today!
Keep hopping along to check out Manuela Geiswinkler's project!! It's gonna be amazing!

See you soon!

A Blue Christmas | Fancy Friday Blog Hop

Oh my. You are in for a treat today! The Stampin' Up! past and current Artisans are back with a blue Christmas and holiday season.

Believe it or not, I feel like I am just about done my holiday shopping, which means that I am ready to rock and roll with the wrapping. I love, love, love using all the trims that Stampin' Up! has for us. When thinking aout packaging its only easy to pick out some gorgeous paper and then wrapped our trims around it.

This is a package of 4 cards in our acetate box. I typically give packs of cards out for Christmas and the acetate boxes are perfect for this. Using some extra trims on the top make it ready to unwrap!

Packaging isn't the only thing our trims and ribbons compliment well though. Consider adding some ribbon to key chains, ornaments, hair ties, etc.

Marisa Gunn is up next - I can't wait to see what she has created!

Peaceful Noel | Stamp to Share International Blog Hop

Hi all!

I am so glad to be back again this month with the International Stamp to Share Blog Hop Team. Each month we feature current products from the Stampin' Up! catalogues. This month, Stampin' Up! released their Annual Holiday Catalogue. I am sharing with you today a project I created with the Peaceful Noel Bundle.

This card also features the Dashing Along Designer Series Paper, which is a September Host promotion. You can get this paper for free with a qualified order ($300 Canadian)! I can't stop using the newspaper print paper!

What I love most about this bundle is that it comes with a punch.
I am a sucker for a good punch... :)
.. get it? Sucker punch?
Ahhhhh never mind!
Regardless, its an economical bundle that can go the distance.

To show off why this Sprig Punch is meant for all things awesome, it automatically looked like antlers to me so I just plopped those bad boys on the head of a cute elf. That sweet paper is called the Santa's Workshop Paper and should be top of your Wish List.. if you look closely you can see flocking on his hat and tassle!

"Merry Little Christmas" sans serif font is a handy dandy nugget in the Peaceful Noel stamp set. How fun to pair it with some paper that perhaps you might consider two completely different styles!

As an extra special treat, I am planning to do a short Facebook Live featuring the first project on this blog post so I hope you managed to see that before this post went live! Be sure to catch the replay on my Facebook Page at In the Cat Cave.

Thanks for dropping by today - hope you have a wonderful day! But be sure to keep hopping along to Moira before you go!

Happy Crafting,
Cathy

Last Minute Coffee Cards | #tgifc139

It's getting so close.
Ohhhhhh I am getting some great gifts this year.
I am getting exactly what I want.
I have finally figured it out.
While I do all the shopping, I buy myself items.
Then I wrap them and put them under the tree...
Now, I am sure many of you have already figured this out.
But this is new to me.
Pretty excited...

Today's project was created for the TGIF Challenge Blog Design Team.  This week we are focusing on anything Christmas because let's face it, with 3 days away we are in "get it done" mode. While this isn't exactly the easiest card, it certainly is within the realms of last minute.

... "buy a couple extra Starbucks cards and slap them in this card in case I have forgotten someone"...

Yup.
I think I nailed this one.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season,
Cathy

Merry Music | #tgifc138

This week at the TGIF Challenge blog we are celebrating holiday music.
Well in the 2018 Holiday Catalog Stampin' Up! came out with the most amazing Merry Music Designer Series Paper, which was the inspiration for this project.

To create this card, I made some die cuts from the Musical Instruments Framelits and played around until I got my style just right.  I am running out of the Merry Music Paper so the perfect combination took a little time.

Be sure to play along with the TGIF team - I can't wait to see your projects!

Hope you are enjoying your Holiday Season so far.
Until next time,
Cathy

Santa's Magic Key | Fancy Friday Blog Hop

"Mommy. But how does Santa get in our house if we don't have a chimney."
"Come on now Jane. Magic."
"But how?"
"Magic. We have a fireplace."
"But no chimney."
"Just magic hunny."
This month's Fancy Friday Blog Hop brings plenty of new friends. Fancy Friday Design Team Members are past and current Stampin' Up! Artisans and as our team evolves, I have no doubt that it just might be the most inspiring blog hop you'll follow along every year. We are playing with "Mixed Metallic" today so I took this challenge quite literally as I held the cast iron keeys in my hands.

I had heard of them before so I researched "Santa's Magic Key".
Taking bits and bobs from different people I created a tag with some instructions on both sides.
I added the perfect stamps from the Stampin' Up! Hearts Come Home stamp set.
Finally, I tied everything together with trims and ribbons to the cast iron key.

Where did I get the glorious keys? Well, I found them at Books-a-Million a couple years ago and then I bought all 10 of them and hoarded them until now.

Keep in mind that this key gets hung outside on Christmas Eve. Therefore, I went to my local Staples store and got the tags laminated. It worked out perfectly and ever so easily.

We all know I love easy.

I can't wait to see how my amazing Kiwi friend, Susan Wong played with mixed metallics! I can't wait to see!

Holiday Random Acts of Kindness For Kids | Christmas Advent Calendar

You can feel the crisp chill in the air here on the East Coast of Canada. As I put on my mittens, you can almost hear the jingle bells in the distance. Honestly, it makes me a little bit giddy inside. I truly feel the magic every single year. Like every year, I vow to get organized early. Typically one of the first items on my agenda is to get our advent calendars ready.  The tradition in our family is to select a wrapped holiday book every evening as well as a Lego Advent calendar for each child in the mornings. However, this year my kids are now seven and five.  It’s a great age to begin some Random Acts of Kindness. This Holiday List works the same way as a typical countdown to Christmas where my children will select a note each day.

The Trim Your Stocking Thinlets Dies (144682) is a perfect product to hold the twenty-four pieces of rolled up paper containing the Random Act of Kindness.

To begin this project, I cut out 25 stockings using the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper (144621) and the Merry Little Christmas 12x12 cardstock pack (144622). Carefully I pieced each holiday stocking together and placed a number made out of Real Red Cardstock (102482) and the Large Numbers Framelits (140622). Finally, I attached each stock with Real Red 1/8” Solid Ribbon (144631) and hung it on a large decorative frame using the Jute Twine (144625). If you don’t have a large frame, you could use a three foot Christmas Tree to hang these stockings quite easily.

The Trim Your Stocking Thinlets Dies (144682) also comes with a pillow box shaped die, which fits a gift card perfectly.  It allowed me to have a pocket on each holiday stocking where I could place a rolled up Random Act of Kindness.  Since my children are young, I selected some Random Acts of Kindness that did not take a great deal of time and would not be a financial burden. While I researched online for some ideas, it was easy to select twenty-four acts. I encourage you to tailor your own family’s Random Acts of Kindness list to what best works for you.

Here’s the Caines Family Holiday Random Acts of Kindness List:

1.         Send a card to a stranger such as a service man or woman overseas.
2.         Donate new toys to the Happy Tree.
3.         “Sock” a friend by putting a treat in a holiday stocking on someone’s doorknob with a special note.
4.         Make 5 sticky note messages and place them on a mirror or a door. A drawing or a note like “you are beautiful” would be perfect.
5.         Bring a joke to school to read to your class.
6.         Donate food to the food bank.
7.         Help Nanny put away the dirty dishes.
8.         Draw a picture for your teachers along with a treat.
9.         Shovel for a neighbour or clear off their cars before they wake up.
10.       Donate 10 books you no longer need.
11.       Help clean the neighbourhood on a walk. Be sure to wear your gloves and bring a garbage bag.
12.       Go through our old towels and blankets to donate to the animal shelter.
13.       Drop by to the senior’s home and bring them a poinsettia. Be sure to say hello!
14.       Donate some cards to Ronald McDonald House.
15.       Write a list of 5 things you are thankful for.
16.       Pay for someone’s coffee.
17.       Donate some money to a charity.
18.       Leave candy canes on someone’s windshield.
19.       Put a treat in the mailbox for the Post Man.
20.       Call both your Grandmas just to say Hello.
21.       Bring coloring books to the doctor’s waiting room and the gymnastics viewing room.
22.       Decorate rocks using paint and place them around the neighborhood for strangers to
find (Kindness rocks).
23.       Be a helper by picking up 10 things off the floor each.
24.       Give 5 people a compliment. Or more!
25.       Merry Christmas!

I am so excited to share these adventures with my children and I truly believe that these little gestures will make a big difference in our small community.

I am wishing you all the best in your holiday preparations!

Simple is Stunning | Lets Get Hopping Blog Hop

Welcome to the third Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop designed to inspire you in some fun and different themes all the while learning the in and outs of blog hopping. This month we are looking at ways to create projects simply using only paper, ink and stamps.

Each blogger will give you their ideas on how to make
SIMPLE turn into STUNNING.

My classic style is the definition of simple.
Many of my cards is a stamped image water coloured on paper using markers or ink. Sometimes with a pop of colour here or there.

Since many of my cards are already simple, I look for ways to give my cards an extra something such as the glitter and sequins shown above or the the popped off ornament.

1. Glitter: // Add sparkle whenever and wherever you can.
2. Pearls: // Add pearls to the image itself or to the outskirts. I love using pearls on floral cards.
3. Sequins: // I often add three sequins in varying shapes on the card.
4. Pop Up an Image: // Pop off a hat, a flower or an ornament like I did above.
5. Rhinestones: // Add rhinestones to cupcakes, the night sky or an ornament.

6. Fine Tip Glue Pen: // Add the fine tip glue to make shiny objects (or eye balls) pop! You can also make bubbles for fish or little bumps on flower creating cool texture.
7. Skinny Border: // Add the skinniest border about 1/8" giving a skinny frame.
8. Pop Up a Layer: // Add dimensional foam to pop off a layer.
9. Watercolour a background: // Create depth by watercoloring some shade - whether that be under an image's feet or the background layer.
10. Patterned Paper: // Add patterned paper to bring your card to a Wow.

And last but not least...

11. Outline Your Colouring: // If you've been colouring then outline the outside edge of your image. In the card above, I used the Light Crumb Cake Stampin' Blend marker to outline the outsides.  This gives it depth and makes images pop off the card.

Thanks for taking the time to drop by today! Be sure to hop along to my Canadian friend, Carolynn Sander. She's pretty amazing so be prepared to be blown away.

Eat Drink and Be Merry: A Gift Jar | Let's Get Hopping

Eat.
Drink.
Be Merry.

Yup.  I look forward to it.  I love to eat. And I love to drink.  I also love to celebrate in all things merry.

I also love jars and little plastic containers.  It seems that a lot of crafters hoard cute little jars... [#ahemright?] waiting for the perfect occasion.

This is an easy tag using the Merry Little Labels by Stampin' Up!  I wrapped the red 1/8" ribbon around the mini mason jar and finished it using the 2" circle from the Stitched Shaped dies.

So easy. So fun.
Let's do Christmas right this year...
Jars for everyone!
Legos. Candy. Chocolate. Soap.

Ta-Da!
You can thank me later for saving your holiday shopping funds!
one for you... two for me... one for you... two for me...

Now let's check out Jennifer Frost's amazing gift jar ideas!  Seriously.  She can make anything look amazing!

When I first saw this stamp set, I couldn't have been more excited to see that Stampin' Up! included the outlines of the stamps, as well as some patterned "filler stamps". I love the look of a nice clean outine and love to watercolour as you can see in my project today.  But for those days when I simply don't have enough time, its nice to have an option to fill the outlines with images quickly.

To create this water colour look, I used tempting turquoise refill ink as well as crushed curry refill ink with my aqua painter.  I dried the ink between layers so that you can see the variations of colours.

Thanks so much for dropping by today, be sure to check out Dani's project today!
