Tennis Tuesday: Robert Hays

I've had a crush on Robert Hays since I was a boy -- first as Donna Pescow’s hunky hubby on "Angie" and then as Ted Striker in "Airplane!" (Surely, I can be serious!) Recently I blogged about my post-election television therapy and I can tell you those bootleg "Angie" DVDs were the best investment I've ever made, as evidenced by these screenshots of Dr. Brad Benson in his tennis whites. Plenty more plus his hot son BELOW.

As a copy editor, I can tell you that I understand how to cut words. But I find it much harder to omit photos. As proof, I'm posting every single one I snapped off the screen last night in a fit of lust ... your eyes will thank me.

While putting this together I was reminded that Hays has been married once -- to none other than Cherie Currie of Runaways fame. Apparently the union lasted from 1990 to 1997 and produced one son named Jake Hayes, who turned out to be just as beautiful as you would expect.

Like many Gen Xers,  I was a huge "Airplane!" fan growing up, seeing it in the theater a dozen times at the Westwood $1 Cinema back in the day. But only recently did I learn that the film is a parody of the 1957 Paramount film "Zero Hour!," from which it borrows the plot, central characters and some dialogue. (There's also a nod to “Airport” and “Airport 75.”) I suppose this realization doesn't necessarily cheapen it for me. But it did leave me with a "Ray of Light" taste in my mouth, when I first found out the backstory of that

Keep scrolling for my failing “Who wore it better?” moment at the bottom.

P.S.

I had an Adidas shirt similar to Brad's -- with matching shorts and hairdo -- but somehow it didn't have quite the same effect!
