About Us
We are an all-volunteer grassroots group that works to raise awareness about the discrimination same-sex binational couples face under current U.S. laws when trying to keep our families together. Same-sex binational couples are LGBT American citizens or permanent residents who are married to, in a civil union with or registered as a domestic partner with someone from another country.
The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) prohibits the U.S. government from recognizing our relationships at the federal level. This means if you are a gay or lesbian American with a foreign partner, you cannot sponsor your partner for a green card. This is a right opposite-sex binational couples have. We want that right, too.
Since 2006, we have told our stories to our families, friends, colleagues, communities and Congress. We have made videos, circulated online petitions, written letters, op-eds and blog posts and engaged with our local, LGBT and immigrant rights’ communities to gain support. Because of the efforts of our volunteers more people know about our issue and are taking action. Some important shifts have occurred during the Obama Administration. But our work is not done.
We want to put an end to the discrimination same-sex binational couples deal with on a daily basis. To live from visa to visa, to live in exile, to live separately, or face the ultimate cruelty – to be torn apart by deportation – this is not the American way! Join us!
